“For Life” could soon be returning to life on IMDb TV.
According to sources, the up and coming streamer is poised to order a third season of the legal drama, which was canceled by ABC after two seasons back in May. The news comes just as IMDb TV has announced that it has struck a deal to stream Seasons 1 and 2 of the series on its ad-supported platform.
Series executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson was said to be instrumental in reviving the series, working with top leadership at Disney, like Hulu-ABC chief Craig Erwich, to find the show a new home. “For Life” was not a linear ratings breakout during its time on ABC but has been said to have performed very well in streaming playback on platforms like Hulu. The existing two seasons of For Life, which was canceled by ABC last month, are now available on IMDb TV, Amazon’s free streaming service. Additionally, I hear Sony Pictures Television, the studio behind the praised drama, has extended the options on the cast, originally set to expire tomorrow, until the end of July.
I hear the agreement with IMDb TV is for a limited, monthlong run. The streamer and Sony TV are expected to evaluate the series’ performance at the end of July. Based on how it does, For Life, starring Nicholas Pinnock, could potentially get an order for a third season as an IMDb TV original, sources said.
Given the stakes, For Life executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, who has been a driving force behind the efforts to find a new home for the timely drama, is expected to lead a big social media effort involving prominent figures...

“For Life” has been renewed for a second season at ABC, Variety has learned, while “The Baker and the Beauty” has been canceled after one season.
Inspired by the life of Isaac Wright Jr., “For Life” is a fictional serialized drama about an imprisoned man, Aaron Wallace (Nicholas Pinnock), who becomes a lawyer litigating cases for other inmates while fighting to overturn his own life sentence for a crime he didn’t commit.
“It has been a profound honor working with Isaac Wright, Jr. and Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson to create a show that, through the prism of Isaac’s experience in our broken criminal justice system, has been able to highlight the racial inequality that plagues this country,” said series creator Hank Steinberg. “The show’s renewal will allow us to continue to do that and I am extremely grateful to Sony Pictures Television and ABC for all of their support.

ABC has picked up an additional drama and comedy series for the 2019-2020 season.
The network has ordered hourlong legal drama For Life (fka Hank Steinberg/Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson Project) and multi-camera family comedy United We Fall. Both hail from Sony Pictures TV, which will co-produce with ABC Studios.
United We Fall and For Life join comedy mixed-ish and drama Untitled Cobie Smulders (aka Stumptown), both from ABC Studios, to bring ABC’s new series for next season to four so far.
Along with Untitled Cobie Smulders, which was picked up to series on Wednesday, For Life had been a frontrunner among ABC’s drama pilots. It took three extra days for the Hank Steinberg/50 Cent pilot to secure a formal order because of the now almost obligatory pre-pickup push by the broadcast networks to extract better co-production terms from independent studios.

NBC has put in development Uninsured, a single-camera comedy from The Goldbergs writer/co-executive producer Dan Levy, executive producer Doug Robinson and Sony Pictures TV where Robinson and his Doug Robinson Productions are based.
Written by Levy, Uninsured centers around young parents Dave and Rebecca, who in addition to raising their two kids, end up taking care of Dave’s parents, Elliot and Linda, who have mishandled their finances and need their help to pay down a sizable debt.
The project is expected to touch upon social issues as the title refers to the fact that they literally have no insurance.
Levy executive produces with Robinson and Alison Greenspan via Robinson’s Doug Robinson Productions, which co-produces with Sony TV.
Levy and Robinson also teamed last year on a multi-camera intergenerational family comedy, which landed at ABC with a put pilot commitment.
Levy previously was a writer-producer on The Awesomes.

Early next year Lifetime will be rolling out the small screen remake of Garry Marshall’s 1988 classic “Beaches.” Starring Idina Menzel as Bette Midler’s Cc and Nia Long as Barbara Hershey’s Hillary, the first trailer for the TV revival has been released.
The new “Beaches” differs from the original in that it is set in Venice instead of the original’s Atlantic City, New Jersey. The remake follows Cc and Hillary’s friendship, spanning over several decades. The first sneak peek includes Cc’s rise to fame as a successful singer, the birth of Hillary’s daughter and the unexpected news of her tragic illness.
Menzel can also be heard singing the iconic song “Wind Beneath My Wings,” which she recorded for the film as well as “The Glory of Love,” among others.
