In 2011, Nick Zinner, guitarist of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, wrote 41 Strings, a four-part symphony to mark Earth Day. He’s since performed the piece around the world, including London’s Meltdown Festival and Australia’s Sydney Opera House with musicians like the xx’s Romy Madley Croft and Savages’ Gemma Thompson. The orchestral piece – which is built to reflect the change of fall, winter, spring and summer – has also made it to TV: the “spring” portion of the piece is currently the theme music for HBO’s Vice.

What’s your plan?
Everytown for Gun Safety has released a video featuring more than 20 celebrities and influencers (including Kevin Bacon, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Susan Sarandon) encouraging fans to hit the polls for the midterms.
“What’s your plan for voting? Mine is to walk,” Will Arnett says in the video. “To my car, and then drive to the polling place, but then vote. Even though my car is running. But it’s electric, so it’s not really … technically not running.”

I’ve always loved the diverse spectrum of styles you hear when putting on a TV on the Radio record. Their music spans numerous diverse genres, from post-punk to electro, freeform jazz to soul music, cappella music, psychedelia and trip-hop, modern soul and on and on. The band recently released their fifth studio album titled Nine Types of Light. Sadly it is the final TV on the Radio album to feature bassist Gerard Smith, who died of lung cancer only nine days after the release. The rest of the band consists of Tunde Adebimpe (vocals/loops), David Andrew Sitek (guitars/keyboards/loops) and Kyp Malone (vocals/guitars/bass/loops) and Jaleel Bunton (drums/vocals/loops/guitars).

Coinciding with the release today of TV on the Radio’s new album, Nine Types of Light, is a near-feature consisting of a video for each song, all sequenced with an eye towards a longer-form narrative. From the band’s site:
Nine Types of Light is as much an album as it is a movie by TV on the Radio.
The movie is meant to be a visual re-imagining of the record, and includes a music video for every song on the album.
The band personally asked their friends and the filmmakers they admired to help direct the music videos.
Tunde Adebimpe, the director for the full Nine Types of Light movie, storybooked the music videos together with interviews from local New Yorkers on various topics, including dreams, love, fame and the future. Tunde also directed the music video for “Forgotten.”
The various directors involved are: Tim Nackashi, Michael Please,...

In a wait that lasted less than three years, TV on the Radio has prepared a new album, "Nine Types of Light," for release this spring. The Brooklyn quintet -- which boasts Gerard Smith, Dave Sitek, Kyp Malone, Tunde Adebimpe and Jaleel Bunton -- last released the well-received "Dear Science" back in the fall of 2008. Few details are known of this new set, though a release describes it thusly: "Get your emotions strong; word is this album’s packing some heartstring heat. Hell, if the band’s last album, Dear Science, took us to a celebration on the edge of the abyss,...
