If you’ve ever been in a crowded parking lot, you’ll surely recognize the inciting incident in Netflix’s Beef: A truck nearly backs into an SUV, which honks extravagantly before speeding off. Maybe you’ll even relate to the impulse to do what the cars do next, even if you’ve never done it yourself: The truck chases the SUV down with the reckless abandon of a Fast & Furious racer, skidding into oncoming traffic and barreling over suburban lawns.
But Amy (Ali Wong) and Danny (Steven Yeun), the dueling leads of Beef, take things further still. The encounter precipitates an endless cycle of revenge, during which they deface each other’s property, sabotage each other’s careers, undermine each other’s families. It’s a hilarious premise on its face, and the half-hours fly by as wild twists twists pile up. What’s less expected, however...

As if "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" wasn't perfect enough, the post-credits scene added one more webslinger to its already stacked cast of Spider-People. Just when you thought the film couldn't get better, Miguel O'Hara a.k.a. Spider-Man 2099 was introduced on-screen in his blue and red suit, voiced by Oscar Isaac. Though the scene was technically a sequel tease, it managed to not feel cynical or grating by doing things "Spider-Verse style." It wore its love for the Marvel hero as a cultural icon on its sleeve instead of baiting the audience with cheap cliffhangers. Humorously, the first thing 2099 does with his new multiverse-hopping tech is a time jump back to the 60s' "Spider-Man" animated series to recreate the beloved "Spider-Man pointing" meme.
Since the 2018 release of "Into the Spider-Verse," Oscar Isaac has been busy. Right after wrapping up his role as hot-shot pilot Poe Dameron in the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy,...

“Pinocchio” co-directors Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson are going in separate but equally exciting directions. Both are continuing the partnership fostered with ShadowMachine Animation during the production of their highly lauded collaborative effort, which nabbed Netflix its very first Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
Announcing “Milepost 88,” a mystery series described as “sort of Coen brothers-esque,” Gustafson said, “Now that we’ve set a certain famous wooden boy loose on the world, I’m excited to launch another great adventure of my own in stop-motion animation.” The show will be set in Nevada’s Great Basin, where two brothers and gas station proprietors meet a traveler who has a strangely acute knowledge of their family’s history. A parallel story takes place in 1969 and follows a cosmonaut trying to become the first man to walk on the moon. Before teaming with del Toro on “Pinocchio,” Gustafson was Wes Anderson’s...

If you love the 1980s – specifically, the neon-lit, Talking Heads-blaring, Delboy swagger of the 1980s Cockney – then Sky’s new crime thriller A Town Called Malice is right up your street.
Meet the Lords
Created by The Sweeney’s Nick Love, this eight-part drama centres on the Lord family, a South London gang whose criminal heyday might be behind them, but who are still up for causing trouble. After a spot of bother with a rival gang (and leaving a policeman for dead), they flee to Spain’s Costa del Sol to lay low, and in amongst the pina coladas and palm trees realise they have a chance to recapture their former glory and become criminal top dogs once more.
The series premiered on Sky Max at 9pm on Thursday 16th March, and the full box-set is already available to watch on Now.

Imagine you're having the worst day of your life, drowning in a seemingly never-ending flood of all the most infuriating moments that everyday life has in store for us. You're barely holding it together, plastering a fake smile on your face through it all, and threatening to come apart at the seams at any moment ... and then you nearly get into a car accident in a parking lot with precisely the wrong person. That's the bizarrely mundane premise that kickstarts the action in the joint Netflix and A24 production "Beef," a new television series that sure looks like it needs to be seen to be believed.
Starring Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, the story certainly looks like it takes the phenomenon of road rage incidents and uses it as a jumping-off point to explore some of the darkest aspects of ourselves in as wry and humorous a way as possible.

Guillermo del Toro is readying his next live-action feature, and is already zeroing in on actors for Netflix’s Frankenstein.
The filmmaker, who took home the best animated feature Oscar on Sunday for Pinocchio, is eying Oscar Isaac, Andrew Garfield and Mia Goth for roles in Frankenstein, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. According to sources, he is circling the actors but there are not yet formal offers out.
Del Toro, known for his affinity for monsters, has long toyed with the idea of tackling Frankenstein, the seminal 1818 novel by author Mary Shelley. But in 2019, he cast doubt on the idea that it would ever happen, stating at the Tribeca Film Festival: “I had an idea to do Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein, but I don’t think it’s going to happen. … I really believe that the movies I do, most of the time, I do them because the premise is so absolutely bonkers.

Fresh off an Oscar triumph for Best Animated Feature, “Pinnochio” director Guillermo del Toro may have found his stars for his next big project.
The filmmaker behind “Crimson Peak,” “Pan’s Labyrinth” and “Pacific Rim” is prepping a new adaptation of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” for Netflix. Andrew Garfield (“Tick Tick … Boom”), Oscar Isaac (“Ex Machina”) and Mia Goth (“Pearl”) are in early talks to join, according to multiple media reports.
While it’s unknown whether Isaac or Garfield would be playing, respectively, Dr. Frankenstein and his cursed creation, it is presumed that Goth would be playing Frankenstein’s love interest, who may or may not be Elizabeth Lavenza.

Just days after winning the Oscar for best animated feature for his dark take on “Pinocchio,” Guillermo del Toro is already looking to cast his next film.
Sources tell Variety that Andrew Garfield, Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth are in early talks to star in Netflix’s live-action “Frankenstein” movie, which del Toro will write and direct.
Del Toro has been developing the project, based on English author Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel, for several years, but it’s unclear how faithful he intends to interpret the source material. “Frankenstein” is part of the filmmaker’s multi-year deal with Netflix, where del Toro has a number of projects in various stages of development. Conversations about “Frankenstein” are in the very early stages, sources tell Variety.
Del Toro’s win on Sunday marked his third Academy Award, following two wins for 2017’s “The Shape of Water,” which took home prizes for best director and best picture.

Steven Yeun and Ali Wong let their tempers spiral wildly out of control in the trailer for A24’s Beef.
In the dark comedy series, Amy (Wong) is a wife and mother who seems to have it all, while Danny (Yeun) is a struggling contractor with downward fortunes, but both are miserable — as cued by the ironic lyrics of The Smashing Pumpkins’ “Today” that plays over the trailer. The two meet acrimoniously in a parking lot and choose to escalate their encounter into an ongoing feud that includes gunplay, attempted arson and defacement of property via urination.
“I have a very full life that I’d like to get back to,” Amy threatens Danny. “I’m going to find you and take what little you have.”
He taunts back: “You’re just a suburban housewife, and now you’re stuck in a life you never wanted.”
