Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson are set to produce the crime drama "When Corruption Was King" for Paramount Pictures reports Variety.
The story is based on the Robert Cooley novel about a southside Chicago lawyer who becomes the mob's most trusted attorney until, as a state witness, he brings the organization down.
Frank Baldwin is adapting the script while Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey and Shane McCarthy are producing. While Wahlberg is presently only committed to produce, the project could be developed as a starring vehicle for the actor.

Mark Wahlberg has been added as an additional producer on the crime drama “When Corruption Was King.” He will produce the film with Marty Bowen (“Twilight,” “Dear John”), Wyck Godfrey (“Twilight,” “I, Robot”) and Shane McCarthy. As a producer, Wahlberg has successfully produced several television shows including “How to Make It in America,” “In Treatment,” “Boardwalk Empire,” and “Entourage.” Frank Baldwin is currently writing the script, which is based on a Robert Cooley novel. “In this true-crime memoir, former Chicago mob attorney Cooley engagingly recounts his role in sparking Operation Gambat, a sweeping federal corruption probe into Chicago’s political and judicial arenas. Operation Gambat succeeded in documenting the extensive ties between the mob and local government, thanks largely to Cooley’s cooperation and courage. The author doesn’t spare himself in recounting his descent into the world of crime, despite his loving family and policeman father; and his transformation...

#1: RZA talks “Iron Fist”
We already knew that multi-talented artist RZA was writing and directing a martial arts genre mash-up titled Iron Fist. Admittedly around these parts we’re pretty big fans of RZA and excited to see what he’s got to offer but if this recent interview with La Times is any indication, there’s good reason for it too. In the mix is Tarantino who appears to be a great influence to the musician turned director, Eli Roth who, love him or hate him, knows what he’s doing, and Jim Jarmusch. Can’t wait until we finally have some footage.
#2: ”Damn Nation” adaptation in the works

Comic book publisher Studio 407’s “Night and Fog” sounds like a groovy time, and although I haven’t read it yet (or even heard of it until now, natch), I’m definitely going out in search of it as soon as I finish with this article. Word from the trades is that producers Gil Adler and Shane McCarthy have snatched up film rights to “Night and Fog” with an eye toward turning it into a movie. Described as sci-fi/horror (but mostly horror), “Night and Fog” is set during WWII and centers on a strange mist that is unleashed on a military base, where it transforms its victims into preternatural creatures of the night. The problem for the survivors is that when they try to kill the infected, they simply turn into something more dangerous, more horrific. If it’s World War II and it involves evil Nazi experimentation, no...

Admittedly, the comic Night & Fog was off our radar, but was released last year and is now being optioned as a film. Try as we might to learn about it, it seems like it might be at least somewhat near the genre of zombies, considering co-author Matthew Bradford (a psudeoym) described the book as a "modern sci-fi spin on a bunch of classic monsters: Dracula, Mr. Hyde, zombies, the Invisible Man."
Set during World War II, the comic is about a chemical that gets dispersed on a military base and nearby village, turning all infected into some kind of mutating creature. Sounds like it could be zombie-related the way Outpost is often described as zombie-related.
Check the below press release for more details.

Sick of chocolate, Christmas and the warm cozy feeling of being with family? Well, good news: there's another horror comic set to be adapted for the screen, in the form of Studio 407's Night and Fog (not to be confused with the 1955 Holocaust documentary of the same name).Producers Shane McCarthy and Gil Adler have optioned the comic, which sees scientists on an island military base off the Canadian coast innocently following in the steps of Nazi research and accidentally unleashing a mysterious mist which transforms people into zombie-like (at first) monsters. The few remaining unaffected have to fight for their life against fog and an increasingly terrifying foe. The mini-series was written by Matthew Bradford and Alex Leung, and illustrated by Roberto Castro. You can read the first section of the first comic over here. Sure, it’s a slow news week. But there’s always room for updates on supernatural World War II creature features, right?
Gil Adler, a producer of Superman Returns, Constantine and the upcoming Dead of Night, has joined forces with co-producer Shane McCarthy to bring the science fiction/horror comic Night & Fog to the big screen.
According to Adler, it isn’t the genre but the characters that attracted him to the property (I’ve never read it, so maybe he’s on the right track). However, the premise sounds pretty cool:
“Set during WWII, story revolves around an infectious mist unleashed on a military base that transforms its victims into preternatural creatures of the night. But when the survivors try to kill them, they adapt and change into something even more horrific and unstoppable.”
Generic but delightfully morbid! Somebody grab an issue on the iPhone and let me know how it is!

We should all be used to seeing countless comic properties finding their way to the big screen. Even some of the smaller stories like Kick-Ass have been plucked from the world of glossy pages and paneled stories and given the Hollywood treatment. And now as we head into the second decade of this new millennium, it looks like nothing is going to change. According to Variety producers Gil Adler and Shane McCarthy have wrapped their hands around the WWII comic Night and Fog, originally published by Studio 407. The comic centers on an island military base contaminated by a mist that turns its inhabitants into violent, blood-thirsty rage zombies. Think Saving Private Ryan meets 28 Days Later. These monsters adapt to their surroundings proving to be a nearly unstoppable force against the remaining survivors. Adler, being no stranger to horror or comic adaptations, is the right man to have on the job.

Producers Gil Adler and Shane McCarthy have optioned Matthew Bradford and Alex Leung’s “Night and Fog.”
Originally published by Studio 407 in 2008 as a miniseries by Bradford and Leung along with artists Thomas Aira and Roberto Castro, “Night and Fog” follows a security guard’s attempt to escape a military base that is beset by a seemingly supernatural mist that transforms its victims into unkillable monstrosities.
“When I read this I knew I had to take it off the market,” said Adler in a recent press release. “It’s a great high-concept that blends the gothic horror of the Hammer films with the sci-fi horror of ‘Aliens’ and ‘The Thing.’”

"Having produced the Tales from the Crypt series and some Dark Castle horror films, I can say horror.s a genre I know intrinsically. Comics publishers Studio 407 have distributed a press release to announce that the World War 2 horror comic Night And Fog has been optioned for a movie.
Producers Gil Adler and Shane McCarthy will be leading the adaptation from page to big screen. Adler said: "When I read this I knew I had to take it off the market. It's a great high-concept that blends the gothic horror of the Hammer films with the sci-fi horror of Aliens and The Thing ...what really appealed to me wasn't so much the genre trappings, but rather the characters that really drive this story."
The comic is tied to an unsolved mystery from World War 2 and tells the story of a Frankenstein-like infectious mist unleashed on a military base that transforms its victims into preternatural creatures of the night. But when the survivors try to kill them, they adapt and change into something even more horrific and unstoppable.

Frankenstein Mist. You don't see that very often on the evening weather report. Usually it's snow or sunshine. Me? I wanna live in the world where a good old fashioned Frankenstein Mist can turn the world on its ear. Studio 407's comic Night and Fog is just such a world, and it has just been optioned for the big screen!

I’m not sure I’m totally comfortable with a comic book about fantastical monsters from the midst of WW2 being called Night and Fog, the same name as Alain Resnais’ shocking, often very hard to swallow documentary about the real atrocities of that war. All the same, that’s the name the comic book had and now it’s coming to our cinemas, I’m sure it will be the name of the new movie too. A press release from Studio 407, the comics publishers, has today announced that the producers Gil Adler and Shane McCarthy will be shepherding the Night and Fog adaptation from page to screen. After the break, some quotage from Adler, and a few pages from the first issue of the strip. So, why did Adler want to take on the project? Here’s what he says: When I read this I knew I had to take it off the market.

A trio of prominent producers are teaming up for "Havana Nocturne," a story of gangsters in 1950's Cuba based on T.J. English's New York Times bestseller. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Eric Eisner ("Hamlet 2"), Gil Adler ("Superman Returns"), and Shane McCarthy are attached as producers on the project. Eisner's L+E banner will produce and finance development, while Adler will produce through his Gilbert Adler Prods. "Nocturne" centers on a group of mainly American gangsters in Batista's Cuba, particularly Meyer Lansky, who run the freewheeling country's casinos and nightclubs, and the rivalries that emerge as they lead the high life. But the good times of their so-called "mobsters paradise" threaten to end when Castro's rebels and the Cuban Revolution...

This weekend Michael Mann will be trying to interest moviegoers in a saga of American crooks, but if that doesn't work, I suppose there's always Havana. Three producers-- Eric Eisner, Gil Adler and Shane McCarthy-- are teaming up to adapt the book Havana Nocturne, about American mobsters in 1950s Havana whose idyllic life is ended by the rise of Castro. Matt Cirulnick, creator of the short-lived TV series South Beach, will write the screenplay, according to THR. Apparently the goal is not to just tell a story about mobsters and all their badassery, but get a picture of Cuban life as a whole. "We really want to show Havana and Cuba as a character at a time that it's booming," Eisner told THR. "This is about mobsters who don't only control a few business but try to control an entire country, and the tension that results when their plans...
