- George Thorne joined the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company in 1881 as principal patter-baritone playing the roles of Mr Wells in "The Sorcerer", Sir Joseph in "HMS Pinafore", Major-General Stanley in "The Pirates of Penzance", Lord Chancellor in "Iolanthe", King Gama in "Princess Ida", Ko-Ko in "The Mikado", Robin Oakapple in "Ruddigore", Jack Point in "The Yeomen of the Guard", Duke of Plaza Toro in "The Gondoliers", and Scaphio in "Utopia Ltd.".
