As if the Duke of Hastings couldn't get any dreamier. We are practically losing it over the sound of Regé-Jean Page's divine singing voice—which was duly noted, thanks to a clip released by Audible on Oct. 7. The actor, who voices the character of Orpheus in the audio drama adaptation of The Sandman, dropped his soothing vocals while singing in Greek for Act II of the drama—and it's something you absolutely need to hear. As Dirk Maggs, co-executive producer and director of the audio play, put it, "It turns out that Regé-Jean Page is not only an excellent actor and an outrageously good-looking chap, he also sings like an angel. And I've got to...

James McAvoy played the captive Morpheus in his own kind of locked room. In the first part of "The Sandman" audio drama directed by Dirk Maggs and released by Audible, Morpheus — the ancient anthropomorphic personification of dreams — is captured by a group of cultists that hold him captive for 80 years, before he's finally released to return to his decaying domain. And McAvoy performed the part of Morpheus in the first part of "The Sandman," released in July 2020, while in lockdown in his spare bedroom. Okay, he wasn't locked in there per se, but he could probably empathize with Morpheus'...

The Netflix adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman” will be slightly different than the original comic book series. While discussing the incredibly popular graphic novel and audio adaptation on the DC FanDome panel with Dirk Maggs, G. Willow Wilson and Michael Sheen, Gaiman revealed the status for the hotly anticipated upcoming Netflix adaptation that was announced in 2019.
When pressed for details on the long-awaited series, Gaiman first stated the obvious; due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, everything has been on pause. However, the author revealed that he had been using that time to get the script as “close to perfect as we can.” A task he admits, was rather fun.
“Right now as the universal pause button is starting to come off, we’re starting to cast again,” Gaiman said. “I’m getting these inspiring and wonderful emails with production designs with places that I’d only ever seen in the comics before,...

Fans hoping for major DC news in lieu of an actual San Diego Comic-Con are definitely going to get just that at DC FanDome, a digital event designed to be watched at home like a real con.
Originally set up as one epic night of panels and reveals, DC announced that it will be splitting FanDome into two separate and distinct events: Hall of Heroes, which will be held in late August, and WatchVerse in mid-September.
The August date still holds most of the big-ticket items. It’s billed by DC as “an epic world designed personally by Jim Lee featuring special programming, panels and exclusive reveals from a wide variety of films, TV series, games, comics and more.” Functionally, it’s the Hall H of FanDome.
This DC FanDome trailer gives fans a good glimpse at what they can expect from the event:

“For years, I’ve said that I would rather have no adaptation of Sandman than a bad adaptation,” says Neil Gaiman – and for years we’ve had no Sandman adaptation. But perhaps surprisingly, given the very visual nature of a graphic novel, the first one to make it past the finish line is an audiobook – more than an audiobook, a scripted audio drama, something akin to a radio play or perhaps an ‘audio movie’ of the first three volumes of Gaiman’s The Sandman graphic novel series. It might not be the adaptation audiences were clamoring for but it works surprisingly well and might just set a path for a whole new way of consuming classic storytelling during a time when traditional screen productions are stymied.

Screen adaptations of Neil Gaiman’s celebrated graphic novels have been teased since the 90s, with various talent attached but none as yet managing to materialize in physical form. While a TV series for Netflix is in pre-production with Wonder Woman writer Allan Heinberg showrunning and David Goyer and Gaiman exec producing, an audio book has arrived from Audible boasting super-high production values and a starry cast. More like a radio play than a straight up reading of the text, this adaptation works surprisingly well and stays very faithful to the books, adding in physical descriptions of characters where necessary.

Alien: River Of Pain, the novel by Christopher Maggs, has been given a glossy audio drama adaptation by Dirk Maggs and the fine folks at Audible.
The story is set before and during the events of Aliens, offering further details about the Hadley’s Hope colony of Lv-426, what went wrong there, and how the decision was made to send Ripley, Burke, Bishop and the Colonial Marines to investigate.
A number of cast members from the film reprise their roles: William Hope as Lieutenant Gorman, Mac MacDonald as Colony Administrator Al Simpson, Stuart Milligan as the salvager that found Ripley drifting in deep space, and Alibe Parsons as Gateway Station’s med tech.

HeyUGuys were on hand to witness the beaming of Audible’s new audio drama Alien: River of Pain into space at an exclusive first-listen event. It was held at the stunning Royal Observatory in Greenwich’s planetarium ahead of the audio drama’s release on 26th April, which is officially Alien Day.
In many ways the location is perfect for such an event as the Royal Observatory Greenwich is one of the most important historic scientific sites in the world. Since its founding in 1675, Greenwich has been at the centre of the measurement of time and space, and you can actually still stand on the historic Prime Meridian line there. In many ways it was completely surreal to be there to witness an occasion that was part Carl Sagan’s Contact and part showbiz extravaganza at its finest.

We got a taster of Audible’s new drama, Alien: River Of Pain. Here’s the new trailer and what we thought...
On a grey afternoon in Greenwich, I trundled through a park and struggled up an incline to reach London’s Royal Observatory. I was lured into this physical exertion by the promise of canapés, drinks and sneak peek at Alien: River Of Pain, a new Audible drama that will bridge the gap between Ridley Scott’s Alien and James Cameron’s Aliens.
After taking a second to catch my breath and immortalise the iconic London skyline with a half-arsed smartphone photo, I said my awkward hellos, stashed my belongings in a cloakroom and made my way into the event. As promised, bubbly was flowing and tiny nibbles were being circulated.
Staff carried snacks atop rectangular glass cases, which contained little black rocks. Space-y looking rocks.

Something Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat said at the series 10 press launch hasn't been talked about enough...
I’ve read quite a lot of reports from the press launch of Doctor Who’s tenth series earlier in the week. I’ve read about the massive spoiler that’s coming up at the end of the first episode, The Pilot (one that everyone managed to keep themselves, until The Sun decided to spoil it for everybody in exchange for a few clicks). I’ve read about the wish to downplay the fact that one of the characters in the show is attracted to people of her own gender. I’ve seen fair chunks of clickbait that then repeat these stories over and over.

Today, we look back the classic era of home computing that existed alongside the dreariness of business computing and the heart-pounding noise and colour of the arcades. Were you a Spectrum owner? Did colour clash rule your life? Did you experience tape load errors, and did you ever poke when you meant to peak? Whether you had a measly 16K or the full 128K, join us for some judgement-free reminiscence about the classic, golden era of early home computers. Interview James Hunt 18 Jun 2013 - 07:00
James chats to directing legend Dirk Maggs about Hitchhiker's, superheroes, Neverwhere, sci-fi, and making radio sound sexy, big, and raw...
As a radio writer and director, Dirk Maggs' body of work is about as impressive as it gets. As well as being hand-selected by Douglas Adams to continue the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy radio series, he's also responsible for this year's smash-hit adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere and the Hitchiker's Live touring stage show. James managed to catch up with him for a chat about life, the universe, and everything geeky.
So last year you did the Hitchhiker's Live tour, which reunited the radio cast on stage and had people like Stephen Fry and Neil Gaiman guesting as the voice of the book. And clearly, it was a great success, because as well as releasing the live recording, you're doing another run this year,...

We went along to the press launch for Radio 4’s hugely exciting Neverwhere drama, and here’s what was said…
A TV show, novelisation, comic book series, stage play, and now, radio drama. Just as soon as someone performs an interpretive dance and/or knocks up a cross stitch sampler telling the story of Richard Mayhew’s fantastic adventures in London Below, Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere will have done the lot.
It’s easy to see why audiences, performers and writers are so keen to return to Gaiman’s story. Neverwhere’s premise, that beneath London exists a rarefied mythological city populated by beasts, bodyguards, and angels, is a seductive dream for anyone who’s ever travelled, head-lolling with boredom, through the London underground. Gaiman’s novels are fantastic, immersive worlds; plush, dark capes of oddness and humour that sweep heavily from shoulder to ground,...

The new radio adaptation of Neil Gaiman's 1996 TV series and novel is starting on BBC Radio 4 on the 16th of March...
It's not often we have cause to report on the BBC Radio 4 schedule, fine institution though it is, what with The Archers, Farming Today, and Woman's Hour rarely intersecting with the world of all things geek (saying that, the comedy serials have plenty of sci-fi and fantasy form). So it's with great pleasure then, that we urge you to tune in on Saturday the 16th of March to the hour-long first part of Neverwhere, adapted from Neil Gaiman's 1996 BBC series and subsequent novel. News of the adaptation arrived last year, but it's only now that the official broadcast date has been confirmed.
It being a Gaiman story is justification enough to make a point of listening, but add to that the...
