Polish filmmaker Jan Komasa, who scored a best international Oscar nomination earlier this year for “Corpus Christi,” will direct “Anniversary,” a drama of social apocalypse.
“Anniversary” will be produced by Nick Wechsler and Chockstone Pictures partners Steve Schwartz and Paula Mae Schwartz. Wechsler and the Schwartzes are no strangers to dark and edgy projects — they have collaborated on such films as “The Road” and “The Counselor.”
“I’m working on an intimate project about my most personal nightmare — a group of people who love each other being challenged by a devastating and inevitable force … a social virus,” said Komasa, whose most recent film, “The Hater,” which dealt with the dark underbelly of social media, won the best international narrative feature prize at the Tribeca Film Festival. It was also released in Poland in March but its successful theatrical run was cut short by the coronavirus pandemic.
Lori Rosene-Gambino is scripting “Anniversary.

Warner and Team Downey are moving forward with Yucatan, an epic tale based on Steve McQueen’s detailed 1,700 page treatment that was envisioned as a star-vehicle for him in the 1960’s and have tapped Pirates of the Caribbean scribe, Terry Rossio, to update McQueen’s vision as a potential star vehicle for Robert Downey, Jr.
Deadline reports that Rossio will use McQueen’s treatment, which envisioned a renegade salvage’s expert search for Mayan treasure in the Yucatan Peninsula, as a starting point for an updated mind-bending adventure story. Additional details are being kept under wraps. Regarding the announcement, Downey said the following:
“To imbue a McQueen project with a sense of how he might have made it nowadays is a challenge and a thrill. Rossio is more than a great writer, he’s the perfect fit to embrace the existential nature of the project with the action, story and characters that drive Yucatan.

Serial killers have long been the stuff of which nightmares are made. The serial killer sub-genre of horror has brought us some amazingly memorable characters that still haunt us to this day. On February 19th Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will bring us a new name in fear with The Factory.
Starring John Cusack and Jennifer Carpenter as detectives tracking a murderer, The Factory is set in the bitter cold of a Buffalo winter. A great place to hunt a hunter. And to celebrate the release of this newest addition to the sub-genre, we've compiled a list of the Top 11 Movie Serial Killers.
There is certainly a long list of names to choose from, but we narrowed the field a bit by limiting it to those who were just regular human people. No supernatural involvement here, just a person or group of people who've gone off the deep end and made...

Marc Guggenheim, who was one of the writers on last summer's comic book adaptation Green Lantern, is in now negotiations to write a script that would bring fictional defense lawyer Perry Mason to the big screen starring Robert Downey Jr. THR has the story, which tells us Guggenheim is working from an original story by Downey and his Team Downey production company president David Gambino set in 1930s Los Angeles. The Mason character originated that decade in novels, radio and film, but was most famously played by Raymond Burr on the B&W television show that ran from 1957 to 1966. Read on for more info. For the uninitiated, Perry Mason stories generally follow a certain formula: Mason takes on a client with an unusual case, and there's a massive courtroom showdown in which the police believe the client is guilty, but Mason provides alternate evidence to convince them of the opposite.

This isn’t much of a helpful introduction, but I’ve got absolutely no clue if Robert Downey Jr‘s reboot of Perry Mason will end up being any good. I’d obviously like for it to turn out well — especially in light of the fact that we’re getting a bit tired of his “smug guy’ routine — but then you get this kind of news and just wish that he’d make another movie like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
According to THR, Warner Bros. and Team Downey have found their screenwriter for the project, and it is Marc Guggenheim, who will work from an “original story” devised by Downey and Team Downey’s president, David Gambino. You’re forgiven if his name doesn’t ring any bells or raise any cinematic memories, but his resume is… undesirable. It’s all in the names, those names being X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Green Lantern,...

Robert Downey Jr. is approaching the bench with a new Perry Mason movie. Although today's generation best knowns TV veteran Raymond Burr in the role of the crusading legal attorney, this new Perry Mason film would be set in the '30s, with Downey in the part of both the lead character and as a producer on the movie.
The project is set up at Warner Bros. and the actor's production company, known as Team Downey, is developing the project. Downey and David Gambino, another producer on the movie, have developed the kernel of the story and now are meeting with writers to expand it into a full-length screenplay.
Burr played Perry Mason in a well-liked television series that ran for 271 episodes in the 1950s-60s. He later came back to play the character again in 26 made-for-tv movies that came out in the mid-80s to '90s.

As if Robert Downey Jr. wasn't in enough franchises, the actor is looking to bring fictional defense attorney Perry Mason to the big screen.
Variety reports that Downey Jr. and his wife and producing partner Susan Downey are looking to produce the Perry Mason movie, based on an idea by Downey Jr. and David Gambino (Whiteout) through their Team Downey production company. Downey Jr. is said to be "eyeing the project as a potential starring vehicle," but considering the Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes actor has come up with the movie's story and is looking to produce, it would seem like chances are good that Downey Jr. will take the case (if you will). The production is currently looking for a screenwriter.

Warner Bros. look set to reboot the classic Perry Mason franchise under the auspices of Robert Downey Jr., who is to produce a the first big-screen outing of the famous Erle Stanley Gardener character in 80 years.
The film will reportedly be based on an original story by Downey Jr. and his producing partner David Gambino, both of whom are currently on the hunt for a scribe to take on what I think is a big challenge of penning a script that is worthy of the Mason name… After all the character is one of the most famous lawyers in literature and on TV, and it will take something fantastic to top the classic Raymond Burr portrayal (pictured above).

Robert Downey Jr. clearly likes being a crimefighter, and isn't content with being Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes. He wants a trifecta of brainy heroes and to that end, Warner Bros and Downey are teaming up to remake Perry Mason for the big screen. You probably associate Perry Mason with something your grandparents watched. You're not far off, as Mason was the basis for a television series that ran from 1957 to 1966, and starred Raymond Burr. But before Burr, there was a series of movies in the 1930s starring Warren William, which will make any "The only Perry Mason was Raymond Burr!" screeds laughingly irrelevant. There was also a radio serial that kicked off in 1943. Perry Mason has been around forever. But before all of that, and before anyone starts screaming "They're remaking a tv show!", it's important to realize that Perry Mason existed on the page first. Mason is the...
