Max Payne is a very popular and beloved video game series that is known for its innovative gameplay and good story. The game’s protagonist was a former NYPD detective, who turned into a vigilante after the brutal murder of his family.
In 2008, Max Payne got a movie adaptation which was highly anticipated as the game’s story was captivating and fans always thought it was made for the big screen. But the movie didn’t perform very well and most fans think that’s the case because Mark Wahlberg was picked as the protagonist.

Mark Wahlberg is a great actor and can draw people to the theater but many fans thought that Wahlberg’s depiction of Max Payne was very poor. His portrayal lacked the depth and intensity that the character showed in video games.

The Matrix movie became an instant box office as soon as it came to the big screens. The popular movie franchise has also inspired many video games in one way or another. The Matrix had people living in virtual reality, and this was similar to many video games. Additionally, the combat scenes of the movie also were similar to other action games out there.
The Matrix (1999)
During the time of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, several games came out that used the bullet time effect in their action scenes. These games were well-liked by fans, and therefore the movie still inspires a lot of games even today.

Pedro Pascal as Joel Miller in The Last of Us
For decades, such adaptations have struggled to capture the essence of beloved games and translate them effectively to the cinematic medium. Despite Hollywood’s persistent efforts to turn popular video game characters into cinematic heroes, the vast majority of these adaptations have fallen flat.

In the world of movies and TV shows, there are countless adaptations that have been made from popular novels and biographical works. But these forms of entertainment have also been inspired by and adapted from some of the biggest video games, which don't get nearly as much attention as they should. In 2023, HBO's acclaimed series "The Last of Us," based on the Sony action-adventure game franchise of the same name, broke viewership records and became the most-watched show in the history of the streaming platform in Europe and Latin America, per the Associated Press.
Along with television series, video-game-to-movie adaptations have also grown in popularity among audiences, with the star-studded "The Super Mario Bros." movie, adapted from the beloved game franchise by Nintendo, being the second-highest grossing film of 2023 so far, as reported by Insider. The film, which features voice acting from stars like Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Jack Black,...

The debt that El Paso, Elsewhere owes to the original Max Payne is impossible to overstate. Your primary interaction with the world is to dive through it in slow motion, firing weapons that include dual-wielded pistols. Hard-boiled protagonist James Savage, whose head is made improbably square by the game’s lo-fi polygons, pops pills in order to restore health, and he makes a very specific sort of wheezing grunt when he jumps in the air. Even the levels, full of endless corridors, are heavily indebted to Max Payne’s dream sequences.
But where that game’s use of surreal imagery was mostly for effect, El Paso, Elsewhere’s oddities are quite literal: James Savage travels through a supernatural void that mashes together motels, graveyards, and more while populating these abstract spaces with mummies, werewolves, and biblically accurate angels. Traveling from one layout to the next via metaphysical elevator, James is...
