- Kristina Nikolova was born and raised in Bulgaria in a family of filmmakers, but for the past 14 years she has been residing and working as cinematographer and film director in the United States of America. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Film Theory from the University of Chicago, and a Master's degree in Film from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. Kristina has 20 short films, 3 features and 2 documentaries to her credit. Her films have taken part in the film festivals in Milan, San Francisco, Sarajevo and Sundance, to name but a few. - Born in communist Bulgaria, Kristina grew up in a family of cinematographers. At 18 Kristina left her country to study economics at the University of Chicago but ended up getting a BA in film theory. At age 20 she shot her first feature. Back in Bulgaria, Kristina shot 3 features, one -- an award-winning documentary for well-known Bulgarian director for which they had to live for months in drug communes in the mountains. In fall 2007 she started at the NYU Graduate Tisch Film program where she directed 5 and shot 14 award-winning shorts ("The Visitors" showed in Sundance 2010). Kristina's first directorial feature "Faith, Love and Whiskey" premiered in Slamdance 2012 and went on to win many awards. She shot and produced her husband and collaborator's first directorial feature "Touched with Fire" (starring Katie Holmes, Luke Kirby), which premiered in SXSW 2015 and was acquired by Roadside Attractions for theatrical distribution.
