In November 1886 Le Prince drew up a specification giving full details
and working drawings, and applied for an American patent (for a 16 lens
contraption). On January 10, 1888, the U. S. Patent Office in
Washington granted his patent, No. 376,247, entitled "Method of, and
Apparatus for, Producing Animated Pictures."
