Manchester United manager David Moyes will watch Ander Herrera in action next week as he steps up his pursuits of the Athletic Bilbao midfielder, according to the Telegraph.
United were linked with the 24-year-old over the summer but failed to land the Spain international on transfer deadline day after Moyes refused to meet Bilbao’s £30.5 million asking fee.
Moyes is uncertain that Herrera is ready to be a first team regular at Old Trafford and will monitor the youngster when he lines up against Granada on Monday.
Having only added Maroaune Fellaini to his senior squad over the summer, the ex-Everton manager admitted recently that he needs two top-quality additions to his side in order to boost their title prospects this season.
He has identified an attacking midfielder as a priority, and could therefore re-enter the market for Herrera, while he is also expected to return to his former club for left-back Leighton Baines.

Manchester United made a world-transfer record breaking bid for Gareth Bale this summer, according to the Mirror.
Yesterday, we reported that the English champions tried to hijack Real Madrid’s plans to sign the 24-year-old.
And now, we can reveal that United submitted an offer of £100 million for the Wales international.
Bale even flew back from Spain to hold talks with the Red Devils, while Madrid president Florentino Perez publicly admitted at the time that a rival bid for the superstar had been made from a then-unknown club.
United were desperate to make a marquee signing over the summer but missed out on virtually all of their top targets – Cesc Fabregas, Thiago Alcantara and Ander Herrera.
And their audacious attempt to scupper Bale’s eventual move to the Bernabeu only serves to make disappointment among fans over Moyes’ failings in the window feel all the more keen.

Manchester United manager David Moyes could be set to lose one of his young stars with Rafael contemplating a move back to his native Brazil, according to the Daily Star.
Sources in Brazil say the 23-year-old is seriously considering his position in the squad and could be about to return to his home country in the January transfer window if he does not feel settled.
Corinthians are believed to be keen on the right-back, as they step up their pursuit of a replacement for the retiring 34-year-old veteran Alessandro.
Rafael is understood to be weighing up his options and his position in the squad with the likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Johnny Evans able to play in his position.
United also signed rookie right-back Guillermo Varela in June.

David Moyes did not officially begin his new tenure at Old Trafford until 1 July but there is no doubt that as soon as his move from Everton was confirmed on 9 May he began assessing his squad and plotting which positions required strengthening. Moyes wasn’t the only new face in a role of responsibility at the club with David Gill, the long serving Chief Executive, also stepping down this summer to make way for Ed Woodward. Woodward had performed admirably in his previous role as vice chairman, having been credited with improving the club finances considerably, after masterminding a number of sponsorship deals which enabled further expansion of the United global brand.
However, the decision to appoint Woodward was met with caution amongst the fans. He was seen as the ‘Glazers’ man due to his close connections with the owners of the club and despite his contribution to the club’s coffers,...

Manchester United manager David Moyes will make renewed attempts to sign Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera and Everton left-back Leighton Baines in the January transfer window, say the Daily Mail.
Though Moyes was relieved to be reunited with Marouane Fellaini, who joined the Old Trafford club in a dramatic eleventh-hour deal, both his and United’s reputation suffered as deadline day passed with just two new acquisitions.
The Premier League champion’s only other signing was rookie Guillermo Varela while their rivals Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester City and even Arsenal spent big this summer.
New chief executive Ed Woodward has shouldered much of the blame for the lack of new signings and Moyes is eager to claw back some credibility in the January window by finally landing his targets.

Transfer window deadline day. For Manchester United fans, it promised so much and delivered so little.
“Silly season” is over again for another four months and the dust has settled following a crazy 24 hours that saw Premier League clubs set new spending records.
In total, £140 million was spent on deadline day in England, and United’s outlay on players accounted for only £27.5 million of that.
By contrast, Arsenal spent £42.4 million on Mesut Ozil, while the Red Devils were completely blown out of the water in fiscal terms earlier in the window as Tottenham spent over £100 million Manchester City £90 million and Chelsea £66 million.
That really puts into perspective just how disappointing United’s summer has been as the champions were left behind by their main title competitors.
While City have signed Alvaro Negredo, Stevan Jovetic, Fernandinho, Jesus Navas and Martin Demichelis, the Red Devils signed Guillermo Varela and Marouane Fellaini.

Manchester United have signed Marouane Fellaini from Everton for £27.5 million, according to the BBC.
The 25-year-old becomes manager David Moyes’s second signing of the summer following the capture of fullback Guillermo Varela and comes after James McCarthy was allowed to leave Wigan for Goodison Park for £13 million as the Belgian’s replacement.
Fellaini had earlier handed in a transfer request in a bid to force through the move to the Premier League champions, who had seen two offers for the powerful midfielder – of £28 million plus add-ons and latterly £36 million – fail.
The second of those bids was to include left-back Leighton Baines, who is staying at Everton.
Instead, there is speculation that a season-long loan deal for Real Madrid’s Fabio Coentrao has been agreed, though this has yet to be confirmed.

Manchester United’s bid for Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera has sensationally been hit by claims of fraud, according to Spanish football writer Andy West.
United reportedly sent delegates to the La Liga offices in Madrid to negotiate a deal for the 24-year-old, but it turns out the “representatives” had nothing to do with the Premier League champions.
Spanish media have published pictures of men in black suits (above) coming out of the league offices carrying briefcases, but it has since transpired they could be fraudsters.
The men were allegedly attempting to get a cut of the deal for Herrera in an elaborate scam, reports claim.
This comes as a sensational twist to what has been a dire summer of inactivity for manager David Moyes, whose only signing to date since taking over from the retired Sir Alex Ferguson has been unknown rookie Guillermo Varela.

Manchester United have had a £25 million bid for midfielder Ander Herrera rejected by his club Athletic Bilbao, according to the Express.
According to reports in Spain, the English champions made the offer last night as manager David Moyes goes in search of his first notable signing of the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old impressed against the Red Devils 18 months ago and was an integral player in the Bilbao team that knocked the Premier League outfit out of the Europa League.
However, his club are unwilling to sanction a deal, while Herrera reportedly has a £30 million release clause inserted in his contract, which runs until 2016.
Speaking at a press conference, club president Josu Urrutia, said:
“We have had an offer for Ander Herrera.
“Our club is different, it is based on sentiment. Our objective isn’t to make money.
“We received the offer last night and have communicated that we will not negotiate for our players.

With just two-and-a-half days between now and transfer deadline day, the pressure is on Manchester United manager David Moyes to make a notable signing this summer.
So far, the Scotsman’s only capture has been Guillermo Varela, the 20-year-old Uruguayan fullback signed from Atletico Penarol.
That’s not exactly a signing that gets the pulses racing.
Meanwhile, usual suspects Manchester City and Chelsea have been their normal, profligate selves, spending £153 million between them on new recruits such as Stevan Jovetic, Fernandinho and Alvaro Negredo and Marko van Ginkel, Andre Schurrle and Willian, respectively.
Even Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed a fruitful summer of activity, taking their expenditure close to the £100 million mark and breaking their club-transfer record three times on Paulinho, Roberto Soldado and Erik Lamela.
With United’s rivals leaving them well and truly in the dust when it comes to transfers, the question is, will Moyes...

Manchester United have seen an improved £36 million bid for left-back Leighton Baines and midfielder Marouane Fellaini rejected by Everton, despite the pair admitting they want to leave this summer.
Yesterday, we reported that Baines had told Goodison Park officials that he wanted to join United.
And today, his colleague Fellaini also informed the Toffees that he wants to join the Premier League champions (Daily Mail).
Neither have handed in written transfer requests but have indicated verbally that they would like to be allowed to leave.
However, despite the England defender and Belgian midfielder wanting out, Everton have rejected United’s new bid of £36 million, according to the Express.
United had already failed with a £26 million bid for the pair but their latest offer significantly cranks up the pressure on the Merseysiders with just three days until the closure of the transfer window.

There are eight days left of the transfer window and so far Manchester United’s only signing has been Guillermo Varela.
The 20-year-old Uruguayan joined the champions from Peñarol earlier this summer, but so far, no new additions have followed him into Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, United’s direct title-rivals have enjoyed busy summers with Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester City all strengthening their respective squads over recent weeks.
There is an argument that United don’t need to sign anybody else. They did, after all, win last season’s title by 11 points.
But given the fact the serial-title-winning Sir Alex Ferguson is no longer there to guide the Red Devils, and the transitional period that is bound to come with David Moyes’s appointment at the helm, you would have expected United to have brought in at least a couple of new players.

There’s 12 days left to go of the transfer window and so far Manchester United manager David Moyes has only signed right-back Guillermo Varela from Peñarol.
Targets such as Thiago Alcantara, James Rodríguez, Joao Moutinho, Cesc Fabregas, Radamel Falcao and Robert Lewandowski are all now unavailable following a summer of frustration for David Moyes.

Manchester United are set to make a new and improved £35 million bid for Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini and left-back Leighton Baines, according to the Mirror.
The new offer comes as United’s initial bid of £28 million for the midfielder and defender was dismissed as “derisory and insulting” by the Toffees.
Red Devils manager David Moyes wants to be reunited at Old Trafford with the two players he signed for Everton from Standard Liege and Wigan, respectively, but his Goodison successor Roberto Martinez has slammed his move as “a waste of time.”
However, the Premier League champions are determined to sign the duo and will increase their original offer by £7 million.
The new bid would rate Fellaini at £20 million – still less than the value of the 25-year-old’s now-expired release clause – and England left-back Baines at £15 million.

David Moyes could make Udinese striker Luis Muriel his first notable signing of the summer at Manchester United as he searches for a replacement for Wayne Rooney, according to the Metro.
Moyes has only made one purchase since succeeding from the retired Sir Alex Ferguson, by landing Uruguayan fullback Guillermo Varela from Atletico Penarol.
And the former Everton boss could have another young South American in his sights as he aims to push through a deal for 22-year-old Muriel.
The Udinese hitman has been compared to Brazil legend Ronaldo and can play either as an out-and-out striker or on the wings.
The Colombian tops Moyes’ list of potential replacements for Rooney, who continues to be linked with a move to Chelsea.
The Blues have now had two bids for the 27-year-old rejected, the most recent of which was received at the beginning of the week, at £25 million plus add-ons.

Manchester United have been one of the quieter of the top Premier League teams in this summer’s transfer window.
The Premier League champions have been forced to sit by and watch their “nosy neighbours” City spend £90 million on new recruits while Chelsea and even Tottenham have outspent the Red Devils this summer.
So far, the only signing new manager David Moyes has made is Guillermo Varela – the Uruguayan fullback bought from Atletico Penarol.
Hardly a “marquee signing” that will appease the fans nor even a noteworthy one.
Moyes has so far seen two bids for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas rejected while other targets such as James Rodríguez, Radamel Falcao, Robert Lewandowski and Thiago Alcantara have gone elsewhere.
It is fair to say the Scotsman hasn’t had much joy thus far.

Manchester United remain interested in Gareth Bale and will make a move if Tottenham decide they are willing to sell this summer, according to the Mirror.
However, Real Madrid remain favourites to land the Wales international, who has told Spurs he wants to speak to the Spanish giants over a potential move.
Real are warning Bale that they are offering him a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and want to complete the deal as soon as possible – or may look elsewhere.
And that could open the door for United, who have a long-standing interest in the double Pfa Player of the Year.
The English champions almost signed the 24-year-old during his Southampton days in 2007, but Bale opted for a move to White Hart Lane instead, concerned that he would struggle for appearances at Old Trafford.

If you’re a Manchester United fan, it is easy to be dissatisfied with the way this summer has worked out.
First, the club’s longest-serving manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, announces he is retiring after more than a quarter of a century at the helm, then comes a drought in the transfer market and one win in four pre-season games under new manager David Moyes.
Moyes hasn’t exactly enjoyed a terrific start to his Old Trafford career, making just the one signing this summer, Uruguayan full-back Guillermo Varela.
The Scotsman has seen a bid for Everton left-back Leighton Baines rejected and two offers for Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas knocked back recently.

This summer, Manchester United fans have had to sit by helplessly and watch the Blue half of the city do all the spending.

As the dust settles in the aftermath of the bombshell that was Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, new gaffer David Moyes has found the transfer market tough going ahead of the new season.

Moyes has it all to prove in the transfer market, can he work on an ample budget; be-littleing the shoestring budget he had at former club Everton.
Another challenge, one that even Ferguson found difficult; is can the 50 year-old entice the top talents to join United? Sadly, the chance to compete at one of...

According to Espn, David Moyes could announce the signing of Thiago Alcantara in his first press conference as Manchester United boss today.
The Barcelona youngster has been linked with a move to Manchester United ever since the player’s release clause dropped from £77 million to just £15 million due to the added clause in the Spaniard’s contract.
The Red Devils are favourites to land the 22-year-old despite interest from Premier League rivals, Chelsea and constant attempts from Barcelona to hijack the deal by trying to secure the youngster on a long-term deal.
Sky Sports expert, Graham Hunter, has already suggested the deal is very close and with Moyes having his first press conference later today, Thiago could be one of many issues the Scot wants to address.
If Moyes does announce the signing of Thiago, then he would officially be the first transfer under David Moyes because the club’s first summer signing,...

Following numerous rumours of players being close to signing within the next few hours or days, it has all gone quiet this week at United. This has promoted an a subdued and anxious emotion amongst most of the supporters.
In my opinion, there is nothing to worry about. Manchester United are simply waiting for David Moyes, the new Manchester United manager to official start in his new role. Only then, we will see things materialising.
Here is a timeline for next week, first week of July:

- Wednesday, 3rd July; players report back to training (Goal)
- Friday, 5th July; Moyes’ official presentation and first press conference as Man United manager (community.manutd.com)

With Sir Alex Ferguson finally departing from Manchester United this week after twenty seven years at the helm, the club is set to enter a new era – Everton manager David Moyes has been appointed on a six year contract to replace his fellow Scotsman and has already begun making waves, mutually terminating the contracts of several long-time members of the team’s coaching staff (including assistant manager Mike Phelan, goalkeeping coach Eric Steele and first team coach Rene Meulensteen) as he sets out to make his mark on one of the world’s most iconic football clubs.
It’s fair to assume that Moyes will soon begin to make changes on the pitch as well as off of it, with both player arrivals and departures likely. Given his track record at Everton it seems plausible that the Scotsman will continue to pursue Sir Alex’s strategy of promoting youth players,...

According to the Sun, Manchester United are now the favourites to sign Barcelona wonderkid Thiago Alcantara.
The 22-year-old midfielder has been watched by United officials and after a long three years scouting Thiago, it finally looks like he could be on his way to Old Trafford.
The Red Devils are currently battling it out against rivals Manchester City for the Spaniard but with the Premier League champions set to make a bid of £15 million, they are confident they could see off any threat from The Sky Blues.
The young Spaniard has a release clause of just €18 million up to the end of July, so if Manchester United are serious with their interest they would benefit from making a bid at sometime in the next month.
It is currently unclear whether Thiago would want to leave La Liga Champions Barcelona but teammate and former Manchester United star Gerard Pique has pleaded...

According to The Express, Manchester United are ready to make a £15 million bid for Dutch youngster, Marco van Ginkel.
Van Ginkel has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in recent weeks but new Red Devils boss, David Moyes, hopes to hijack any potential move to Chelsea. Dutch giants Ajax are also said to be interested in the player but have been put off by Van Ginkel’s large fee.
United scout Jim Lawlor has travelled to the European Under 21s championship to analyse the 20-year-old and was reportedly pleased with what he saw of the young midfielder. However complicating a potential deal for Van Ginkel’s signing is Chelsea having first refusal for any Vitesse Arnhem players due to the affiliated link between the two clubs.
Van Ginkel appeared in 33 games for the Dutch club last season, managing to score eight goals. The youngster also played in Holland...

Incoming Manchester United manager David Moyes is closing in on his second summer signing with a deal for Benfica defender Ezequiel Garay thought to be “agreed in principle”, according to the Mirror.
Reports in Portugal claim the 50-year old Scotsman is on the verge of signing the £17 million-rated Argentine international and that the 26-year old will follow fellow South American defender Guillermo Varela, 20, to Old Trafford.
The Premier League champions signed the Uruguayan youngster from Peñarol earlier this week but Moyes is looking for further defensive reinforcements.
Although Rio Ferdinand has just recently signed a one-year extension at the club, he will turn 35 later this year and Garay is considered a long-term replacement.
There are also concerns surrounding the fitness of club captain Nemanja Vidic, who missed the entirety of the second half of the 2011/12 season after suffering knee ligament damage.

Incoming Manchester United manager David Moyes is closing in on his second summer signing with Monaco’s French under-21 midfielder Nampalys Mendy set to arrive on a free transfer, according to the Metro.
Reports in French media claim Mendy has rejected a contract extension with the newly-promoted Ligue 1 outfit and now seeks a fresh challenge in England and at Old Trafford.
The 20-year old defensive midfielder will become Moyes’ second signing as United manager following the capture of Uruguayan right-back Guillermo Varela from Atlético Peñarol.
Mendy, who has drawn comparisons with former Chelsea star Claude Makelele, told boss Claudio Ranieri of his desire to leave this summer amid fears his playing time would become limited thanks to Monaco’s high-profile acquisitions of midfielders James Rodriguez and Joao Moutinho.
Ranieri was said to have been left “stunned” by the player’s revelation, after fielding him 31 times last season.

According to the Daily Express, Manchester United are set to make Uruguayan full-back Guillermo Varela their first signing of the summer.
Teamtalk additionally report that the 20-year-old is in Manchester for his medical today and will sign for an estimated fee of just £1.2 million. The youngster made just 1 domestic league appearance for Penarol in the 2010/11 Primera Division but has nine caps for Uruguay’s under-20′s national squad under his belt.
