Pau Torres is a Spanish professional football player who plays center back for Premier League club Aston Villa and the Spain national football team. Born in Villarreal, Torres began his youth career playing at Villarreal CF starting in 2002. He made his official league debut with Villarreal's reserve team, Villarreal B, in August 2016. In December 2016, Torres would make his first appearance for the first team, coming on as a substitute for Víctor Ruiz in the 1-1 home draw against Toledo in the Copa del Rey. This milestone marked the first time a player born in Villarreal debuted for the club in 13 years. Torres made his official LaLiga debut in November 2017. Internationally, Torres made his full debut for Spain in 2019, scoring in his first appearance. He represented Spain at UEFA Euro 2020, the 2022 World Cup, and the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, winning a silver medal. Over the course of his 20 years at Villarreal CF, Torres cemented his place in the club's starting XI making a total of 173 competitive appearances and winning the 2021 Europa League, the club's first-ever European victory, before departing and singing for Aston Villa in 2023.
