Get ready for more Clifford.
Paramount Pictures has announced it is developing a sequel to 2021’s family-friendly adventure “Clifford the Big Red Dog.” The studio has not disclosed whether the newest installment will play only in theaters or simultaneously on digital platforms, like the original.
The first film premiered in theaters earlier in November and has since generated $34 million at the domestic box office while playing concurrently on Paramount Plus. Though the company didn’t provide any tangible metrics, Paramount says “Clifford the Big Red Dog” has become the nascent streaming service’s most-watched original film to date. It should be noted that Paramount Plus rebranded from CBS All Access last March with limited cinematic offerings, so “Clifford” didn’t have much competition to cement its place as the streamer’s most popular new film.

Clifford the Big Red Dog was spotted just outside of Metro Detroit in Allen Park, Michigan taking a break from promoting his new film, Clifford the Big Red Dog. The large red pooch was seen relaxing near the world’s largest tire.

When middle-schooler Emily Elizabeth (Darby Camp) meets a magical animal rescuer (John Cleese) who gifts her a little, red puppy, she never anticipated waking up to find a giant ten-foot hound in her small New York City apartment. While her single mom (Sienna Guillory) is away for business, Emily and her fun but impulsive uncle Casey (Jack Whitehall) set out on an adventure that will keep you on the edge-of-your-seat as our heroes take a bite out of the Big Apple.

Exclusive: In the wake of being quite content with the theatrical and Paramount+ day-and-date release of Paw Patrol, the studio is putting the eOne/New Republic Pictures feature Clifford: The Big Red Dog back on the calendar for Wednesday, Nov. 10 in both theaters and on the ViacomCBS streaming service.
The decision is also due to the ongoing pandemic, the safety for kids 6-11–Clifford‘s main demo and changing consumer behavior. If you remember, Sony moved Ghostbusters: Afterlife out of the Veterans Day stretch there and put it on Nov. 19. Opening Nov. 12 wide, the same weekend as Clifford and aimed at a completely different, older demo is Focus Features’ TIFF-award winning Kenneth Bragnagh childhood biopic Belfast.

As the coronavirus-forced lockdown continues, movie studios have realized releasing new titles directly for consumers to stream and rent at home may continue to be necessary. Upcoming releases on subscription platforms and VOD range from horror films for stay-at-home Halloween to family movies for the holiday season.
While a handful of high-profile films still plan to premiere in theaters, there is a wealth of content to choose from on home viewing platforms, including Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Disney Plus or Apple Plus. Many more titles are available through virtual cinemas and on rental/purchase platforms such as iTunes.
October is particularly loaded with spooky new movies, including horror titles “Books of Blood” on Hulu, “Scare me” on Shudder and “A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting” on Netflix. Premiering Oct. 21, Netflix’s romantic drama “Rebecca” centers on a newlywed who is faced with the legacy of her husband’s late wife.

Netflix and its streaming rivals are putting out a lot of Halloween content this year, meaning that horror fans will have much to choose from over the next month or so. One of the first big seasonal releases for the company, though, is Vampires vs the Bronx, which hits the service this Friday, October 2nd. And based on the trailer and other images that we’ve seen so far, it looks like it could be a lot of fun to watch.
Directed by Oz Rodriguez, Vampires vs the Bronx is a horror-comedy about a Bronx neighborhood having to deal with the effects of gentrification and its threat to the established multicultural community. To make matters worse, literal bloodsuckers turn up and it’s down to a group of teens to fight them off. It’s an intriguing presence, no doubt, albeit one that does seem to recall Attack the Block,...

With Halloween season just beginning, Netflix is stepping up their Netflix and Chills season of horror. This already boasts some awesome titles, with The Binding, The Paramedic, The Babysitter: Killer Queen and Alive having landed in September and many more to follow in October. One of the coolest, though, has got to be new original movie Vampires Vs The Bronx, a horror-comedy with a smart central metaphor.
As you might guess from the title, the film is set in New York’s Bronx where our heroes aren’t just battling immortal fanged creeps, but more insidious menace: gentrification. As the trailer shows, the rich, white and snobby Eurotrash vampires are buying up property and forcing the longtime residents out. So, the bad guys are not simply sucking the literal blood out of the people, but draining away the lifeblood of the neighbourhood itself.

Vampires vs the Bronx trailer is out now and it looks every bit as fun and scary.
Netflix has released the first full trailer for the upcoming horror-comedy just in time for Halloween.
Vampires vs the Bronx follows a group of young friends from the Bronx who come together to defend their neighborhood from a band of blood-sucking vampires.
"You all know how this starts," says one of the main characters from the film. "They're turning it into apartments?" another kid asks shortly after they watch a local courthouse being changed into a modern apartment block. "White people with canvas bags? That's always the first sign."
Produced by SNL creator Lorne Michaels alongside Erin David, Bert Hamelinck, and Michael Sagol, Vampires vs the Bronx features Jaden Michael, Gregory Diaz IV, Gerald W. Jones III, Shea Whigham, Cliff 'Method Man' Smith, Coco Jones, Joel 'The Kid Mero' Martinez, Chris Redd, Vladimir Caamano,...

If you’ve ever been evicted because your landlord wants to “renovate” and hike the rents, seen your favorite local businesses killed to make room for expensive, low-quality replacements, or watched a racially diverse community turn into an affluent white enclave, you probably already suspect gentrification is an expression of pure evil. Well, now you have proof courtesy of the horror-comedy “Vampires vs. the Bronx,” which drops on Netflix this weekend.
From veteran “SNL” director Osmany Rodriguez (“Brother Nature”), “Vampires vs. the Bronx” follows a group of kids who discover that the gentrification affecting their neighborhood is an invasion of vampires. And uh, just in case you thought they might be the friendly kind, one of them explains that they work in real estate, so, yeah, pure evil. As the kids defend the Bronx at all costs, hilarity — and a lot of gory bloodshed — ensues.

Ever wonder what effect a crosstown might have on vampires? Netflix’s upcoming horror comedy is an educational look at an urban problem. There’s a lot of things happening in the neighborhood right now. Keep your eyes open. That may sound vague, but the new Vampires vs. the Bronx trailer is about a silent threat: gentrification. And it’s not just any old white people buying up property in the Boogie Down Bronx; it’s ancient old people who stay that way by sucking the blood out of locals while draining the community of anything special. Have you noticed those missing kids’ posters?
Vampires vs. the Bronx comes from Dominican Republic-raised director Oz Rodriguez, who has worked on Saturday Night Live, A.P. Bio, The Last Man On Earth, and Shrill and Sunnyside. Like their undead cousins the zombies, stories about vampires will never go out of fashion, but with such saturation comes the problem of how to do anything new with them. Horror comedy Vampires vs. the Bronx, for which a batch of images has been released, might just manage to bring us something fresh, though.
The plot of the film is set in a Bronx neighborhood under threat of gentrification and its multicultural community being obliterated so middle class white people can move in with perceived safety. At the same time, a band of vampires emerge, and it’s up to a group of teenagers to save the borough from the bloodsucking undead. The stills below reveal the trio of heroes: ambitious and confident leader Miguel, the culturally conflicted Bobby, and horror-obsessed nerd Luis, as well as various supporting characters.

Within the first ten minutes of “Playmobil: The Movie,” two kids sing a cute musical number, find out their parents died in a car accident, and after a flash forward of four years, one attempts to run away. If this feels a bit like storytelling whiplash, it’s because it is — and it’s what we’re getting for the rest of the movie.
An uneven story built to sell toy sets with little to no emotional connectivity, overlaid with generic pop music meant to distract from the mess of a narrative, “Playmobil: The Movie” might have been better off going directly to streaming, as it is best watched running in the background of a playdate for pre-schoolers, buried under the noise of kids’ own imaginations but offering the occasional distraction from a total toddler meltdown.

Disney’s “Frozen 2” will continue to dominate the box office for the third weekend in a row with an estimated $33.8 million.
The number marks a roughly 67% decline over last weekend. The hit animated sequel has accumulated $310.8 million domestically through Friday, and will likely become Disney’s sixth movie to cross $1 billion in 2019.
Meanwhile, the only major new release of the weekend, animated musical adventure film “Playmobil,” eked out a minuscule $167,000 from 2,337 North American locations on Friday, with an estimated $811,000 for the weekend. The movie is distributed by Stx Films in North America, but the studio has no financial stake in the film, which cost $75 million to produce. Wild Bunch, Pathe, Dimitri Rassam and the Paris-based On Animation co-financed the French film.
Based on a chain of German building toys, “Playmobil” features a voice cast including Anya Taylor-Joy, Jim Gaffigan, Gabriel Bateman, Adam Lambert, Kenan Thompson, Meghan Trainor and Daniel Radcliffe.

Playmobil: The Movie, directed by Lino Disalvo, is the latest feature film adaption of a pre-existing toy or product that is adapted to capitalise on for monetary gain. The world has already been gifted not one but two Lego Movie features as well as a double bill of Angry Birds films, and now it is time for Playmobil to try its hand at creating a franchise and try to stand tall amid other highly successful ventures.
The end result is a mixed venture that does not quite grasp nor understand what works within a feature film of this calibre.

They've been talking about turning board games into movies for years, with Monopoly, Chutes and Ladders, and Candy Land all being mentioned at one point as a serious possibility, but... Catan?
According to THR, Sony apparently bought the rights to a feature film version a couple years ago, and they are preparing to turn it into a film franchise. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich are attached to produce with Blaise Hemingway writing the screenplay for the movie, of which they believe will be the first of many.

Sony Pictures is currently attempting to adapt the 1995 board game The Settlers Of Catan into a feature film. There has been no confirmation that the studio has acquired the rights to this movie yet, but it seems they are aggressively pursuing it. There are even talks of turning the eventual adaptation into a franchise.
At present, it's believed that the film will be produced by Gail Katz (Air Force One, The Perfect Storm), Dan Lin (It, Sherlock Holmes, The Lego Movie), and Jonathan Elrich (Netflix's Death Note). Meanwhile, Blaise Hemingway will be drafting the screenplay. Hemmingway previously wrote a 2006 short film called The Bracelet, but most of his writing credits relate to pre-production works.

[1] It's a time-honored tradition at the start of any year for everyone to declare that this will be the year they finally get around to all of those things they've always meant to get around to at some point. Not all of these vows end in success, of course -- in fact, it's right around this point in January that it becomes apparent that some resolutions just aren't meant to be -- but Disney, so far, seems to be off to a great start. In the first two weeks of the year, the studio's already assigned [2] directors [3] to Maleficent and its Matterhorn movie, which have been bouncing around since 2010 and 2011 respectively, and has set [4] Rob Marshall to bring Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods to the big screen. Now Disney's pushing ahead with another project that's been lingering on the backburner for a while, the sci-fi adventure flick Hovercar, as...

About a year ago Disney announced that they would be developing a big screen 3D adaptation of the Matthew Reilly sci-fi novel Hover Car Racer. When the film was first announced it was titled Hovercar 3D. The film is being described as being like "Harry Potter, but with racing." It is also being compared to Disney's Tron: Legacy film.
The studio is looking to move forward with the film and has hired Superman Returns screenwriter Dan Harris to write a completely new draft of the script. The movie has been in development since 2004, and the script has gone through drafts from David Digilio, John Sayles, and Blaise Hemingway. Obviously none of them have impressed the studio heads. It was previously reported that commercial director Fredrik Bond was on the project, but there's no word on if he's still attached.

The trend for turning to young adult novels as likely source material for the hungry development machine shows no sign of abating with Disney thrusting a version of Matthew Riley’s Hover Car Racer back into active development and hiring X2 / Superman Returns writer Dan Harris to craft the script.Simply titled Hovercar, the film version will follow young hero Jason Chaser as he enters an international school that trains up drivers for futuristic hover car races. Good thing his surname wasn't Slowcoach, then…It’s not the first time that the Mouse House has attempted to shove Riley’s book through the development process: it snapped up the rights back in 2004 and several writers, including David Digilio, John Sayles and Blaise Hemingway have taken a whack at the script. Now the Disney team will be hoping Harris is the man to make it work with I Am Number Four...

THR tells us that Disney is putting its hopes on writer Dan Harris, hiring him to pen Hovercar, a sci-fi adventure story based on Matthew Riley‘s young adult novel Hover Car Racer. I put it that way because, as it turns out, the Superman Returns and X2 co-writer is one of many scribes to tackle the material since Disney’s owned it — going all the way back to 2004 — putting him in the same company as David Digilio, Blaise Hemingway, and none other than John Sayles.
Riley‘s original book took place in “a near future where humans travel in vehicles that float a few feet above the ground,” and in which “racing the vehicles becomes a glamorous sport.” The focus is on “Jason Chaser [you must be kidding], a young man who enters an international race school.” That description screams post-Harry Potter kid’s lit — and doesn’t sound all that complicated in...

Disney is continuing its long-gestating plans to develop Australian author Matthew Reilly's young adult book series "Hover Car Racer" reports Heat Vision.
The "Speed Racer"-esque story follows Jason Chaser, a young student who races in the dangerous and cutthroat world of hover car racing with his vehicle the Argonaut and his nerdy younger best friend and technician Bug.
There's also a lot of school class scenes set around the training school on the island of Tasmania which has been privatised, and the buildup to four 'Grand Slam' races held in London, Sydney, New York City and across Italy.
At last report Blaise Hemingway was adapting the script with commercials director Fredrik Bond the top choice to direct. Now, "X2" and "Superman Returns" co-scribe Dan Harris has come onboard to work on the script which the studio has been trying to tackle since 2004. Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are producing.

Dozens of screenwriters have just been blacklisted--and they're delighted. Whereas Senator McCarthy's blacklist ended careers, Franklin Leonard's makes them. Franklin Leonard, who was recently featured as one of Fast Company's "Most Creative People," transformed from an ordinary mid-level development executive into what the Los Angeles Times calls "Hollywood's most important soothsayer" almost overnight. Back in 2004, buried in lousy screenplay submissions, he shot off an email to some production company executives, asking what the best unproduced screenplays they had recently read were. Leonard culled the data, noted which titles recurred, and sent off a list to some friends.

With the publication of the 2010 Black List another compilation of the year's best unproduced screenplays has arrived. This is the fifth year that The Black List has been in existence, and its purpose is to shine a spotlight on what 290 film executives think are some of the best creative executions of ideas worthy for the big screen.
To be nominated and included on The Black List a screenplay can't have been released in 2010. As well, the minimum number of votes that a screenplay needed to have to warrant inclusion on the list is five. Several of the projects listed on Tbl are in development and will be released in the next twelve months. Others might have heat but take years to reach theaters, and there are also many that will never be greenlighted.

The Black List started in 2005 when Franklin Leonard was working for Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way production company. Leonard was getting drowned in sub-par spec scripts, so he sent an e-mail out to his industry contacts looking for the best unproduced scripts out there. The 2005 Black List and the 2006 Black List were undeniably important in getting a fresh batch of writers on the Hollywood scene. Since then, too many people know about the party and the studio system has learned that people are paying attention. That means that increasingly, scripts have been lobbied into the Black List. [Note: I have no actual evidence I would be able to share, disclose or show you that proves this, so file that assertion under: "Things Dave thinks and gets to write because he's squatted on that soapbox long enough to get squatter's rights."]This year: the majority of the Black List Top Ten has already been sold or optioned. Back in 2004, a list was compiled of the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood of that year. This came to be known as The Black List. It was all started by a young executive at Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way, who polled 90+ peers to send him their 10 favorite, new, unproduced screenplays to read over the holidays. It has since become a tradition at the end of every year, in December, to release this list, which is voted on by a group of individuals in the entertainment industry from producer assistants, talent agency individuals, and many people involved with film development all the way up to VP's.
The 2010 Black List is here, and thanks to Deadline we have the list of best unproduced screenplays. Most of the scripts we've heard of, many of them are in production, some have already wrapped filming, they just wont be released until next year.

Every year, studio executive Franklin Leonard compiles the “Black List,” a collection of the best unproduced screenplays as voted on by 300 execs and high-level assistants. The 2010 list is the sixth of its kind to bring additional awareness to Hollywood’s hottest scripts.
Topping the list this year is Wes Jones’ College Republicans, a Social Network-esque story (read my script review here) about the underhanded election of Karl Rove to a National College Republican seat, managed by strategy wunderkind Lee Atwater. Shia Labeouf is attached to play Atwater and Paul Dano as Rove. Previous Black List leaders include 2008’s The Beaver, which became a long-delayed film directed by Jodie Foster and starring Mel Gibson, and 2009’s The Muppet Man, which remains on the shelf.
