cumgirl8 have shared the new single “cursed angel,” the latest sample of their upcoming debut EP phantasea pharm, which drops August 18th via 4Ad.
Keeping in line with the provocateurs’ whimsical, retro tendencies, “cursed angel” is equal parts late-2000s electroclash, rollicking surf rock, and weirdo new wave. “I feel like I’m losing my mind,” goes the song’s refrain, as its woozy, slightly off-kilter production dares to elicit the same effect on you.
But losing one’s mind isn’t necessarily a bad thing, the New York band explains in a press release: “‘cursed angel’ is about feeling like you’re slipping out of reality; it’s uncontrollable and sometimes you can’t contain it. If you don’t fight it, the outcome can be positive.“

New York City’s cumgirl8 have readied phantasea pharm, their debut EP on 4Ad. Ahead of its August 18th release, the electroclash outfit premiered a new single, “gothgirl1.”
Bassist Lida Fox, guitarists Veronika Vilim and Avishag Rodrigues, and drummer Chase Lombardo met in a sex chat (of course), and have released two EPs since their formation. Their latest project, phantasea pharm, was inspired by Ella Fitzgerald’s “Old McDonald.” According to a press release, the band paid homage to the song at a Virginia show — “Vilim dressed up in a cow leotard with pig accessories, Lombardo in a g-string and apron that read ‘The Grillfather, Rodrigues became a lawn mower, and Fox took on the role of a sexy rooster” — and then knew what their next EP would be about. “We went on stage that night and told everyone we were a ‘Fantasy Farm,'” the band recalled.

Bloc Party have shared another song from their upcoming sixth album, Alpha Games. The mid-tempo track, “Sex Magik,” sees frontman Kele Okereke reflecting on a past relationship.
“’Sex Magik’ is probably my favorite song on the record,” Okereke explained in a statement. “It’s about a memory that I’d completely forgotten that resurfaced a few years ago about a summer fling that I had. I was a teenager at the time and during that summer I felt like the veil had been lifted from my eyes. I saw the...

Twenty-two years have passed since Inxs frontman Michael Hutchence died, and while songs like “Never Tear Us Apart,” “New Sensation,” and “Need You Tonight” remain staples on classic-rock radio and at karaoke clubs, the band has had a difficult time moving forward. Despite putting out two records with different singers and launching a TV competition to find a new vocalist (Rock Star: Inxs aired in 2004), Hutchence’s shadow has loomed large over the band. That’s because the singer boasted an unmistakable voice and a unique presence, not to mention...

L7 rock out in an angel dust hellscape in the video for their new song, “Burn Baby,” which will feature on their first record in two decades, Scatter the Rats. The group will also release the song as the A-side to a seven inch on Record Store Day, April 13th. The song has a chugging, punky riff that recalls the group’s Bricks Are Heavy period, as frontwoman Donita Sparks sings about burning at the stake. The four women throw a gold record in a barrel full of fire and...

"It was a real pleasure hanging around the set and watching Ray do his thing," Cave said.
"He is a master. What a great actor. And of course, working with my friend and collaborator John Hillcoat is always a blast."

The track is the second to be released from Push The Sky Away, the band's 15th studio album, which is available via Bad Seed Ltd from February 18.
The video was shot on location in London's East End last December.
Hillcoat also directed last year's Lawless, which was written by Cave.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs have announced the release of a new album, Mosquito, due out April 16. The band's goal with Mosquito, as lead singer Karen O said in a press release, is to make the fans "feeeeel something": "So much feeling went into this record," she wrote. "It was the rope ladder thrown down into the ditch for us to climb up and dust ourselves off." O added that the album—which reunites them with longtime producer Dave Sitek, as well as Nick Launay and (on one track) LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy—boasts "more moodier and tripped-out ...

The cover to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' forthcoming new album "Mosquito" looks like "Paranorman" mixed with a Garbage Pail Kids reboot. The effort was produced and engineered by LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy, TV On The Radio's Dave Sitek and Nick Launay (YYYs, Arcade Fire, Nick Cave). The song teaser they posted sounds like the Black Angels. Karen O said that fans will hear "roots reggae and minimalist psychedelia influences" in the effort. Well, this should be interesting. The New York band confirmed the arrival of a new album this spring today. "Mosquito" flies onto shelves on April 16 via Interscope, with an abomination...

Mosquito will be the band’s first album in four years and was recorded at Sonic Ranch in Tornilla, Texas. It was produced (separately) by Dave Sitek (TV on the Radio) and Nick Launay (Arcade Fire). James Murphy also produced a track. “So much feeling went into this record, it was the rope ladder thrown down into...

The followup to 2008's Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! was recorded in a 19th-century mansion located in Southern France and produced by Bad Seeds and Grinderman collaborator Nick Launay. It's also described in press materials as "the most subtly beautiful of all the Bad Seeds albums"—which is potentially saying something, considering the band's large discography. The first single off the album, "We No Who U R," will be available to download on Dec. 3. A full tracklist is below ...
