Netflix officially confirmed the release date of its upcoming crime drama Iron Reign!
“Iron Reign,” the most awaited Spanish crime drama-thriller, will arrive on the streaming service in March. It has everything you want: crime, drama, and even “Denver” from Money Heist (that’s Jamie Lorente for those unaware of it).
The teaser clip promises a gripping family story intertwined with the dangerous world of drug lords. Think “Narcos” meets “The Godfather,” but in Spanish.
The short teaser for the criminal thriller teases the violent family dynamics centered on deadly drug kingpins. Mark the date for March & get ready for a binge! ️ This one is going to be insane.
Iron Reign | Official Teaser
The story follows Joaquín Manchado (Eduard Fernández), the owner of a marine terminal in Barcelona. He is a key figure in the port’s illegal network and an influential performer in the importation of illicit cargo, having marketed over 30,000 kg of cocaine.

In a bid to give more opportunities to women directors and boost the romcom genre, Sony Pictures International has teamed up with Maria Ripoll’s Cahuenga Filmmakers and transatlantic production shingle El Estudio to launch The Love Collection, a series of romantic comedy features to be written and helmed by women.
Ripoll, best known for her romcom “Ahora o nunca,” the highest-grossing femme-directed film in Spain, will serve as executive producer on all the titles, and will direct the first in the collection, “Yo no soy esa,” (roughly translated to “I’m Not That One” or “I’m Not Her”) starring Verónica Echegui. El Estudio’s Enrique López Lavigne will serve as producer on all the titles.
In “Yo no soy esa,” Susana (Echegui) wakes up after a 20-year coma. Stuck in a grown woman’s body but emotionally and psychologically still a teenager, Susana must learn to navigate an unfamiliar world and rediscover herself.

Highly rewarding dramas still exist; they don’t all go begging for Oscar nominations… just learn to read subtitles and you too can find out how the rest of the world lives.

A nominee for Best Foreign Language Film in the upcoming Oscars, the Spanish-language Julieta is simply one of director Pedro Almodovar’s best – a visually lush, beautifully constructed, haunting mystery about love and loss, tied up with a satisfying but unexpected ending.

When you think Pedro Almodóvar, you think Rossy de Palma. The actress’ unconventional, but striking, beauty has often made her the most memorable player in the auteur’s works, from her uptight virgin in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, to the heroine’s sister in The Flower of My Secret. In Julieta, which marks lucky number seven in de Palma’s collaborations with Almodóvar, she plays Marian, an overprotective housekeeper who looks after what she thinks should be her employer Xoan’s (Daniel Grao) interests. After meeting the title character, played in younger age by Adriana Ugarte, who is about to become the new mistress of the house, Marian reveals a secret that sets the entire plot into its tragic motion.

Pedro Almodóvar is the wild man of world cinema, a great, flamboyant talent whose films shimmer with his own vivid and hotly sexual take on the world. Not this time. Julieta, adapted from a trio of short stories by Pulitzer-winning Canadian writer Alice Munro, is more of the author than Almodóvar – the movie is a genuflection to the restraint and detail of her prose. This isn't a bad thing. It's just a different approach for the Spanish provocateur.
The plot unfolds, over three decades, in the form of a thriller.

The films of Pedro Almodóvar always draw out the oft-melodramatic complexities of everyday existence, especially for the multi-faceted female characters that drive the narratives. In Julieta, Almodóvar crafts perhaps his most straight-forward story, shorn of many of the melodramatic flourishes and plot twists that so often permeate his films, yet nonetheless powerful and provocative.
Based on three short stories by Alice Munro, Julieta opens with Julieta (Emma Suárez), a middle-aged woman living in Madrid and preparing to move to Portugal with her boyfriend Lorenzo (Darío Grandinetti). A chance encounter with Beatriz (Michelle Jenner) results in Julieta learning the location of her estranged daughter Antía (Blanca Parés). Suddenly, Julieta no longer wants to leave Madrid. She breaks it off with Lorenzo and returns to her old apartment, where she begins to compose a long narrative in a series of journals, addressed to her daughter.

Almodovar on Julieta: 'I prefer to make films in which I don’t feel obliged to push my own emotions to the fore because I have become a bit bored with my own melancholy and sadness' Photo: Cannes Film Festival He has veered wildly from the kitsch to the outrageous. Today Pedro Almodóvar, at 66, is displaying distinct signs of mellowing maturity.
Speaking in Cannes before the red carpet screening of Julieta tonight (May 17) - which stars Emma Suárez, Adriana Urgante, Rossy De Palma and Daniel Grao - he said the film represented the way he feels, saying: “For me at the moment the passage of time is important. I am bit older than most of you. It is not that I feel like an old man but I am getting there. I never would have been able to make this film until now when I am 60-something years old.

A woman recalls the pivotal moments of her adult life in Julieta, the latest film from Pedro Almodóvar and his fifth to screen in competition here in Cannes. It’s adapted from a series of short stories of Canadian Nobel prize-winning author Alice Munro and marks a return to the female-centric dramas with which the director made his name, having recently tried his hand at musical (I’m So Excited) and psychological horror (The Skin I Live In). It’s charmingly self-aware in its use of kitsch and melodrama — almost to the point of self-parody — and, while small in scope, it’s also one of his lusher and leaner offerings.

Julieta
Director: Pedro Almodovar
Writer: Pedro Almodovar
Spanish auteur Pedro Almodovar returns to high drama with Julieta following the sillier escapades of 2013’s I’m So Excited. Showcasing a female driven cast headlines what is described as a ‘powerful, intense drama,’ self-produced by the director and his brother through their own production company, El Deseo. The film was recently retitled from the original Silencio in order to avoid confusion with Martin Scorsese’s 2016 title of the same name. Adriana Ugarte and Emma Suarez star as the titular protagonist, which documents the earlier events from Juliet’s life from the 1980s forward, explaining what brought her to her present day madness.

It doesn't have to be said, but a new film from Pedro Almodóvar is kind of a big deal; thus it's no surprise that his upcoming "Julieta" ranked pretty high on our 100 Most Anticipated Films Of 2016. And this morning, our excitement got stoked just a little bit more with the arrival of the first international trailer. Led by Emma Suárez and Adriana Ugarte, and co-starring Inma Cuesta, Rossy de Palma, Nathalie Poza, Pilar Castro, Darío Grandinetti, Daniel Grao, Joaquín Notario, and Blanca Parés, the drama tracks the tumultuous life of Julieta across 30 years, from 1985 to 2015. "Julieta" opens in Spain on April 8th. No word yet on a U.S. release date. Watch below (sorry, no English subs yet for this one).

If one dared to dream, perhaps Pedro Almodovar will have his latest film "Silencio" ready in time for the fall festival circuit. While the Cannes Film Festival has long been a second home for the filmmaker, maybe the unveiling of the first official poster means that things are further along than expected. And I didn't realize this, but earlier this spring, Screen Daily revealed the film had a release date in Spain slated for March 18, 2016. Hmmm.... At any rate, what we know so far is that Emma Suarez and Adriana Ugarte lead the movie (and are featured on the poster), with Inma Cuesta, Rossy de Palma, Nathalie Pozo, Pilar Castro, Dario Grandinetti, Daniel Grao, Joaquin Notario, and Blanca Pares in support. The drama tracks the tumultuous life of Juliet across thirty years, from 1985 to 2015. Really, this could be about someone sitting in a room for two hours, and I'd still be excited.

Sony Pictures Classics Acquires Rights to Pedro Almodóvar’s Latest Film Silencio. The North American rights to Pedro Almodóvar‘s latest film, Silencio (2016), have been purchased by Sony Pictures Classics. Silencio‘s plot synopsis: “Julieta’s life in 2015 finds her on the verge of madness; 30 years earlier, we see a more prosperous time in her life.”
The plot synopsis for Silencio doesn’t reveal much – or rather, all we need to know – about Pedro Almodóvar’s latest film. As with most of his work, it’s best to know next to nothing before sitting down to feast your eyes on it. It’s a much more rewarding experience, I find, and I’d probably recommend his films to anyone that doesn’t mind learning Spanish or reading a few subtitles. The last Almodóvar film I experienced without prior knowledge regarding its story was The Skin I Live In (2011) – and it was an absolute pleasure.

Sony Pictures Classics has acquired North American distribution rights to Pedro Almodóvar’s forthcoming "Silencio," the director's 20th feature and his tenth collaboration with Spc. The film, which stars Adriana Ugarte, Emma Suárez, Daniel Grao, Dario Grandinetti, Inma Cuesta, Michelle Jenner, and recent Cannes juror Rossy de Palma, follows its protagonist Julieta (Ugarte and Suárez) from 1985 to the present, as she deals with the disappearance of her daughter and "struggles to survive on the verge of madness." As the Spanish auteur told Variety in January, the "hard-hitting drama" once again finds him working within "the cinema of women, of great female protagonists," though the material was not quite suited to Almodóvar stalwarts like Penelope Cruz or Antonio Banderas—thus the cast of relative unknowns. "'Silencio' is about destiny, guilt and the unfathomable mystery that leads some people to abandon...

While a certain segment of movie fans are desperately poring over whatever set snaps arrive from "Suicide Squad," I'm way more excited for these official production photos from "Silencio." Pedro Almodovar is now rolling on his next movie, which is always a reason to pay attention, and his production company revealed the first couple of photos from the set. While not prolific in the vein of Woody Allen, Pedro Almodovar usually doesn't let two or three years pass without delivering a new movie. And right on schedule, his next effort, "Silencio," is gearing up. Word first emerged on the project at the beginning of the year, and now much more has been revealed as casting has been put in place. And this time around, Almodovar is choosing new faces to work with instead of his usual ensemble roster of players. Emma Suarez and Ariadna Ugarte have been cast in the lead roles, with Inma Cuesta, Rosy de Palma, Nathalia Pozo, Pilar Castro, Dario Grandinetti, Daniel Grao, Joaquin Notario, and Blanca Pares in support, with the film finding the director going back into dramatic territory following the frothy "I'm So Excited!" Here's the synopsis via THR: The film tells of a 30-year time span in Juliet’s life, starting from...
