(Updated with more details) The Vice President is no longer heading to late-night.
VP Kamala Harris was set to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live! tomorrow night (Tuesday April 16).
However, her appearance has been postponed and will be rescheduled for a later date. Though the VP did end up flying back into LA from her quick trip to Las Vegas today, and not going to DC, no reason for Harris’ absence from the ABC late nighter was given.
However, the White House has announced that the Vice President “will participate in a campaign event” later in the day on Tuesday. Kimmel usually films that night’s show in the late afternoon — which is around the same time the Veep’s campaign event appears to be occurring.
If Harris had appeared on Kimmel on Tuesday, it would have been her second appearance on the ABC show. The past California Senator previously sat...

Jonathan Majors is out of the Marvel Studios kingdom.
The news comes today in the wake of the Emmy-nominated actor being found guilty of reckless assault and harassment in his domestic violence trial by a six-person NYC jury.
A studio rep confirmed the news about their decision to not move forward with Majors in the MCU.
Majors played megavillain He Who Remains aka Kang the Conqueror in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phases 4 through 6. He debuted as the character during Season 1 of Loki in 2021, then continued on in Season 2 this year, as well as the February movie Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which made more than $476M worldwide. The Tolkien Estate & Amazon Win ‘Lord Of The Rings’ Lawsuits Against ‘Fellowship Of The King’ Author
The Tolkien Estate and Amazon have been victorious in their court battle with an author who first published a book titled The Fellowship of the King and then demanded $250M after claiming Prime Video had stolen the idea for its TV series.
In court documents issued by the District Court of California on December 14, both cases brought by Demetrious Polychron were thrown out by Judge Stephen V. Wilson, who ordered Polychron to pay the Tolkien Estate and Amazon’s legal fees totalling around $134,000 (read the Tolkien order here).
In 2017, the same year Warner Bros and the Tolkien Estate settled their five-year $80 million rights legal battle, Polychron registered a fan fiction sequel book titled The Fellowship of the King, which he claimed to be the “the pitch-perfect sequel to The Lord of the Rings,” according to the Tolkien Estate lawyers. Editor’s note: This article previously reported a $73 million loss. That is incorrect. Trump Media & Technology Group, the parent company of former President Donald Trump’s Truth Social, had a loss of $31.6 million since its inception in 2021. According to a filing with the SEC, Tmtg had a $50 million profit in 2022, not a loss of $50 million. We sincerely regret the errors and have corrected them in this story.
In advance of a proposed merger, Digital World Acquisition Corp. revealed in an SEC filing that Tmtg has lost millions since its launch.
A sprawling, 530-page filing with the federal Securities and Exchange Commission (see it here) shows that while the conservative social media platform made $50 million in 2022, it has had total losses adding up to $31.6 million since its inception in 2021.
Trump revealed Truth Social in October 2021 — nine months after he was banned from Twitter in the aftermath of the January 6 attack on the U.

Opening arguments in a workplace civil case pitting actor Robert De Niro against his former executive assistant, Graham Chase Robinson, will begin this afternoon in a federal courtroom in Manhattan, with De Niro himself expected to testify today under direct examination by one of Robinson’s lawyers.
An eight-person jury has been chosen Monday to hear the case, which Judge Lewis J. Liman said will take two weeks. Jurors will have to decide claims contained in dueling lawsuits filed in 2019: whether the Killers of the Flower Moon star subjected Robinson to gender harassment and underpaid her in violation of New York laws, and whether Robinson, who quit the job 2019, misused funds while at De Niro’s company, Canal, and took valuables when she left.

A New York judge has ruled that actor Jonathan Majors must face trial on domestic abuse charges.
In a hearing Wednesday, New York Supreme Court Judge Michael Gaffey denied a defense motion to dismiss the case and set a start date of November 29 for the trial.
Gaffey also revealed that the defense has filed a new motion under seal that seeks to keep details related to an undisclosed “evidentiary matter” shielded from public view.
Defense attorney Seth Zuckerman, asked by Gaffey if there was any alternative to the secretive route, said the defense team had considered other ways, but “the answer is simply ‘no.'” Due to the “high profile of the case,” he continued, not shielding that aspect of the case would lead to such intense media scrutiny that it would compromise his client’s right to a fair trial.

For the first time since his pre-emptive video posted before multiple allegations of sexual misconduct against him were published in the British media, Russell Brand has reacted to those reports.
Calling this “an extraordinary and distressing week,” Brand goes on in a video posted on social media to thank fans for their “support and for questioning the information that you have been presented with.” Watch the video below.
That information includes Brand being accused by four women of allegations ranging from rape to sexual assault via a bombshell joint investigation that has been nearly five years in the making from The Times, Sunday Times and Channel 4. BBC, Channel 4 and Big Brother producer Banijay all reacted by launching investigations into historical allegations related to Brand’s work for them, while Brand was dropped by his agent and book publisher and postponed his live tour, along with seeing ads suspended on his 6.6M-subscriber YouTube channel.

One of Hollywood heavy-hitter law firms has become more muscular.

Ava DuVernay is making history today. In Venice with Origin, which world premieres in the Sala Grande this evening, she is the first African American female filmmaker to ever have been selected in competition at the world’s oldest festival. DuVernay earlier told Deadline’s Dominic Patten, “Venice was a big goal. It feels like a real full-circle moment.”
Based on Isabel Wilkerson’s 2020 bestseller Caste: The Origin of Our Discontents, the film stars Oscar nominee Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor as Wikerson and tracks the Pulitzer Prize winner’s creative and personal journey over several continents through grief, revelation and the evils of historical stratification.
Although it was originally a Netflix project, DuVernay and Paul Garnes produced Origin without a studio. Speaking to Deadline earlier, DuVernay said, “I experienced success within the studios. I experienced this challenge within it. I learned a lot and ultimately the thing that felt best is to...

The scene outside Silvercup Studios on Thursday was the same as it has been for weeks.
Dozens of members of the Writers Guild, SAG-AFTRA and other supporters circled loading bays and doors across the Long Island City, NY, property, where Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story has continued work on its 12th season despite efforts by the Writers Guild of America East to slow or halt production on one of the few shows still running on the East Coast.
“We’ve shut down a sh*t-ton of shows and that’s why you see us out today,” T Cooper, a Wgae strike captain and, pre-strike, an executive producer on NBC’s hit series The Blacklist, said today. “We’re here at one of the few remaining shows that are being produced still, and how does it feel? SAG-AFTRA Strike Looms
Clock’s ticking: Time is running out for SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP to strike a new deal and avoid an actors strike before the current contract runs out today, though our U.S. colleagues Dominic Patten and Anthony D’Alessandro revealed on Wednesday talks may extend to next week or even later. Fingers remain crossed at these signs of progress. Negotiations are at a critical stage, with more than 1,000 actors, including Jennifer Lawrence and Meryl Streep, signing a letter stating they are “prepared to strike.” In Europe, producers, studios, networks and actors have been peering pensively across the pond. Unions in English-speaking countries appear less prepared to act in solidarity with their U.S.

A column chronicling events and conversations on the awards circuit.
So now, as they say, is crunch time as this column leads into the first weekend where 20,000-plus eligible Emmy voters (I am but one of them) have ballots if not in hand then at least on their laptop and can begin voting in the categories they are eligible to judge. All members get to weigh in on the program categories. Others, depending on their branch (I am in the Writers Branch and a former Governor there) also get to vote on their branch selections.
The ballots went live Thursday and of course have all the usual suspects and obvious front-runners to choose from. The sheer number of voters, and the overwhelming amount of content thrown at voters during the very long Emmy season that started six months ago, simply tends to favor the best-known and most-written-about programs. So as...

More than two years after it launched an investigation of actor Armie Hammer over sexual assault allegations, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said today that the actor won’t be charged.
“Sexual assault cases are often difficult to prove, which is why we assign our most experienced prosecutors to review them,” Tiffiny Blacknell, Director of Communications for Da George Gascon, said in a statement today. “In this case, those prosecutors conducted an extremely thorough review, but determined that at this time, there is insufficient evidence to charge Mr. Hammer with a crime. As prosecutors, we have an ethical responsibility to only charge cases that we can prove beyond a reasonable doubt.” Read her full statement below.

While Succession patriarch Brian Cox has called co-star Jeremy Strong’s method acting “f***ing annoying” and last week complained Logan Roy was killed off “ultimately too early,” it seems those irritants did not define Cox’s experience on the show. Quite the opposite.
In an Instagram story posted after the series finale last night, Cox had nothing but praise for cast and crew, calling it “the greatest work experience” of his long, distinguished career.
He wrote:
We have now come to the end. And what has been, in my career, certainly the greatest work experience ever. The harmony between crew and cast was truly amazing. It was on it’s [sic] way to become a great series but the Love and commitment from crew to cast and writers, made it memorable. I would like to thank all of us in the making and creating of this show from the very bottom of my heart.

In a virtual appearance today at Deadline’s Contenders TV, Better Call Saul‘s Bob Odenkirk reflected on the opportunity he had to work with screen legend Carol Burnett over the course of the Breaking Bad prequel’s final season.
“She’s just a great actress — completely connected, completely grounded, utterly with it. With somebody who’s a legend like that, someone who’s older, you worry if you’re going to have to work around them a little — and not at all,” the two-time Emmy winner shared. “She was utterly present, ready to rip it up. She knew her lines, she knew her part so well…It was a beautiful performance. She must get nominated now, come on.”

DC co-Boss James Gunn recently tweeted that he “wrote a 1/3 of an unannounced DC TV show”.
Insiders are staying tight lipped about exactly what it will focus on as Gunn and fellow DC co-Boss Peter Safran expect to unveil their DC universe plan spanning film and TV toward the end of the month. Gunn has mentioned previously on social that the duo are building out an eight to ten year plan.
Gunn first told Dominic Patten and I that he was working on a Peacemaker spinoff series, that’s the Viola Davis Amanda Waller character series which will pick up where the John Cena one ends. Peacemaker was one of the most watched series ever on HBO Max. A season 2 of Peacemaker was ordered back in February. At the time, it was announced that Gunn would direct and write all episodes in season 2. That second season hasn’t been shot yet we’re told.

It’s been a trying year-plus for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, but there’s some good news for the group today: Its signature trophy show, the Golden Globes, will return to NBC in 2023.
HFPA, dick clark productions and the network said the 80th anniversary gala will air live coast-to-coast from the Beverly Hilton on Jan. 10 — that’s a Tuesday, rather than the traditional Sunday.
In a clear statement that NBC have renegotiated their long term agreement with the HFPA, the return of the Globes to the Comcast owned network next year is only a one-year deal. The return of the Globes to NBC comes over continued objections from key publicists and content creators who believe the HFPA has neglected to overhaul its long term membership — and the question will linger exactly which marquee nominees show up.
Nominations will be revealed on Dec. 12.

Director James Mangold stopped by D23 today to tout his upcoming Indiana Jones film, slated for release on June 30, with a for-the-room-only trailer. He was joined onstage by Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy, as well as franchise veteran Harrison Ford and his fellow Indiana Jones 5 cast member, Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
Ford appeared very emotional, saying, “I’m very proud to say that this one is fantastic, and this is one of the reasons,” before pointing to Waller-Bridge. “Indiana Jones movies are about mystery and adventure, but they’re also about heart, and I’m really, really happy that we have a really human story to tell, as well as a movie that will kick your ass.”

Ford later indicated that this will be his last film in the franchise. “This is it,” the octogenarian said. “I will not fall down for you again.

For our final TV Talk podcast of the Emmy season, naturally Deadline Chief Film Critic and Awards Columnist Pete Hammond and Deadline Chief TV Critic Dominic Patten thought they would take a shot at calling some key races, not just in terms of what will win, but also in their individual views what should win.
And although surprisingly they found they agreed more often than usual, you might be taken aback at some of the answers here as they take on the Drama, Comedy, and Limited Series categories, both for program wins and those for Lead Actor and Actress in each. Find out the answers to everything by clicking the link below to check out Deadline’s TV Talk. You will also hear part of Hammond’s Behind The Lens interview with Dopesick’s Danny Strong. Enjoy.

Updated with results: An effort to recall Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón was rejected today, with the county clerk’s office announcing that organizers submitted only 520,050 valid petition signatures, short of the required 566,857.
Organizers of the recall submitted a total of 715,833 petition signatures to the county Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s office in an effort to force Gascón into a recall election. County officials initially conducted a random sampling of the signatures to verify their validity. Based on that initial sampling, the county undertook an effort to verify all 715,833 signatures individually.
The county announced Monday that 195,783 of the signatures were invalid. In many cases, the person signing the petition was not a registered voter, and there were also more than 45,000 duplicate signatures, according to the county.
“We are obviously glad to move forward from this attempted political power grab, but we also understand that there is far more...

This week on our Deadline podcast TV Talk, Chief TV Critic Dominic Patten and Chief Film Critic and Awards Columnist Pete Hammond continue our discussions about this year’s Emmy nominees — not necessarily ones that have managed to get into the race year after year or after taking a hiatus, but those charmed shows that make it on their first try. How do you successfully break into a race that often favors the tried and true?
Last year, for instance, the Outstanding Comedy categories produced two new shows — Ted Lasso and Hacks — that simply plowed over the rest of the field. They are back this year in their Season 2s with a combined 37 nominations, but can breakthrough first-season standout Abbott Elementary or 17-time first-season nominee Only Murders in the Building triumph in their Emmy race debuts and upset those favorites? And what about Severance, Squid Game and Yellowjackets, which are...
