Ed Helms‘ starring role in the Hangover movies may have played into his season eight promotion on The Office.
In the upcoming book The Office: The Untold Story of the Greatest Sitcom of the 2000s by Andy Greene, never-before-seen interviews with stars and crew members shed light on the behind-the-scenes inner workings of the hit NBC comedy.
One of the topics discussed in the book, excerpted in Rolling Stone, is how the powers that be chose to make Andy Bernard (played by Helms) the new regional manager of Dunder Mifflin after Steve Carrell (who played lead character Michael Scott) exited the show.

Fox News Channel host Laura Ingraham has come under fire for comments she made on The Ingraham Angle on Monday, calling immigration detention centers for children, “essentially summer camps.” Ingraham’s show faced an advertiser boycott in April after she took to Twitter to mock Parkland survivor David Hogg. On the heels of the “summer camps” quip Monday night, some on Twitter were using the hashtag #boycottlaura.
On her program, Ingraham said, “As more illegal immigrants are rushing the border, more kids are being separated from their parents and temporarily housed at what are, essentially, summer camps.” Ingraham added, “The president is doing what we should have been doing all along, prosecuting all border crashers.”

I like Craig Robinson a lot, and I wish his self-titled NBC sitcom about a small-time Chicago musician and substitute teacher were better. Created by Office writer-producer Owen Ellickson, executive produced by Greg Daniels, and overseen by Mark and Robb Cullen, screenwriters of the lamentable Cop Out, Mr. Robinson is not great, not bad; it’s just okay. Twenty years ago, a show like this might’ve run for four seasons, because most people treated TV as an appliance and didn’t especially care what flickered across their screens as long as it was competently executed and either awful or not too intellectually demanding. This one hits the old-broadcast-network sweet spot, and unfortunately that means it’s not good enough. Except for some game attempts to diversify the supporting cast, a handful of likable musical numbers, and a few sexually tinged lines that seem discordant only because this is an...

Feig will step behind the camera for Other Space, a sci-fi series "about a group of rookie space explorers who get trapped in an alternate universe." It will be co-run by producer Owen Ellickson (who worked with Feig on The Office) and will be the first TV series created by Feig since cult favorite Freaks and Geeks was cancelled 14 years ago. After passing over a comedy pilot from Craig Robinson last spring, NBC has changed its mind and given the show a six-episode order.
"Mr. Robinson" stars "The Office" alum Robinson as a musician who gets a job teaching at a middle school, where he chafes under the school's rules. As seen on "The Office" and occasionally in his stand-up comedy, Robinson has some musical chops himself.
The pickup comes with some changes behind the scenes. Robb and Mark Cullen, coming off ABC's canceled "Back in the Game," are joining the series as executive producers and showrunners, while "Office" Ep Greg Daniels has left the project. (Another "Office" veteran, Owen Ellickson, wrote the pilot script.)
Robinson and the Cullens previously worked together on "Lucky," an FX comedy that ran for one season in 2003.

A year after it was ordered to pilot, Craig Robinson‘s NBC comedy project, Mr. Robinson, is going to series with a six-episode order. The single-camera comedy is going on the air with a new behind-the-scenes team as Mark Cullen and Rob Cullen have come on board as executive producers/showrunners. The Office developer/exec producer Greg Daniels, who oversaw the development and executive produced the pilot starring The Office regular, will no longer be involved. (He also ended his relationship with Mr. Robinson producer Universal TV earlier this year.) Also gone is the project’s writer, fellow Office alum Owen Ellickson, and Gabe Miller and Jonathan Green, who helped rewrite the pilot script. All three served as exec producers on the pilot. Mr. Robinson stars Robinson as a journeyman musician who gets a job as a music teacher at a middle school. While teaching the kids everything from rock to the blues,...

This weekend, we learned that John Mulaney's sitcom pilot was not yet dead, as Fox was going to give it a shot. Well, that wasn't the only hotly anticipated NBC comedy pilot to get a second life: NBC has extended the cast options for the untitled Craig Robinson pilot. Executive produced by Greg Daniels and written by former Office writer Owen Ellickson, the show focuses on Robinson as a talented musician who becomes a middle school music teacher. Like the Krysten Ritter– and Alfred Molina–starring pilot Assistance, NBC has asked Ellickson and Daniels for three additional scripts. Good luck, guys.

Updated: Another NBC pilot that narrowly missed the cut to series is staying alive. It’s pilot season, which means your favorite out-of-work TV actors, actresses, creators and writers are getting a chance to return to the small screen once more.
Although we have yet to know what new series we’ll see next year, the networks have been busy selecting projects to consider for their schedules. So far, almost 100 scripts have been chosen, and audiences will only get to see a handful actually come to fruition.
Several are duds, but there are a few promising prospects that I hope network executives will keep around for the 2013-2014 season — even if it means they have to cancel old favorites to make room (just keep Parks and Recreation, Ok, NBC?).
Check out my choices for the best prospective pilots NBC and CBS have ordered, and come back tomorrow to see my picks for ABC and Fox:
