- Mike Garcia was born on November 17, 1923 in San Gabriel, California, USA. He was an actor, known for 1954 World Series (1954) and 1953 MLB All-Star Game (1953). He died on January 13, 1986 in Fairview Park, Ohio, USA.
- Pitcher with the American League's Cleveland Indians (1948-1959), Chicago White Sox (1960), and Washington Senators (1961).
- In 14 seasons with the Indians, White Sox, and Senators, his record was 142-97 and his career ERA was 3.27. In 1954 he led the American League in ERA (2.64).
- In 1958, he slipped on a damp mound, sustained a slipped disc, and needed surgery. At the time, a team was allowed to have only 2 players on the disabled list at the same time. Since there were already 2 players on the DL, Cleveland had to release him. The following year, he lost the tip of his right (pitching hand) index finger in an accident, and retired in 1960.
- He was the number-four pitcher in a rotation that included future Hall-of-Famers Bob Feller, Bob Lemon, and Early Wynn.
- I've won 19 [games in one season] and the difference between winning 19 and 20 is like the difference between a Ford and a Cadillac.
