He got the job. He was offered a permanent position as the new executive sous chef to the White House caterer. He and his family will move across the country, from Burbank, CA to Washington, DC. Derek...

On Thursday, April 11, USA Network premieres "The Moment," a reality series that gives people a second chance at realizing their dreams.
The host is former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner, who knows something about second chances. After the NFL didn't draft him in 1994, Warner got to try out for the Green Bay Packers that same year but was released before the beginning of the regular season.
Told he wasn't ready to throw the ball in the NFL, Warner moved in with his in-laws and got a night job stocking shelves at a grocery store in Cedar Falls, Iowa, for $5.50 an hour.
He later went to work for his alma mater, the University of Northern Iowa, as an assistant coach. When no NFL team wanted him, Warner then found success in the Arena Football League, which led to a tryout invitation from the Chicago Bears that he ultimately couldn't attend.
When the NFL still didn't come courting,...

Local news anchor Derek James has a bone to pick with one Anderson Cooper--and naturally, this has everything to do with Jersey Shore's Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi. As you may have read in the suicide note of your high school English teacher, Snooki's at work on her second book, and Cooper "defended" Polizzi's chops as an author by giving a dramatic reading of some of her "work." More great TV from the Silver Fox, you say? Sure. But the morning crew at Wccb-tv were simply not amused. "I'm going to address you personally, Anderson Cooper, Mr. Silver Fox," began James on his show, Fox News Rising. "You and your staff--your huge staff--have to steal segments from me, little local TV host Derek James?"...

The Rising Tides Competition--which sought visionary ideas to deal with climate change--has just announced the winning proposals.
We all love disaster movies, right? There's a certain perverse thrill that comes from seeing the world engulfed in cataclysm, resulting from our present sins. No wonder, then, that Day After Tomorrow was a blockbuster, or that we're about to see another flick along those lines, 2012--tagline: Who Will Survive?
Well, that same thrill grips architects. But when they imagine the apocalypse, they think: "Hmm, what massive thing could I design to prevent it?" Such was the premise of the Rising Tides Competition. Given that sea levels are expected to rise by at least 55 inches in the coming century, they invited anyone to envision a solution for saving San Francisco.
Today, the six winning entries were announced. Among them is a particularly wild-eyed proposal by architecture giant Skidmore Owings and Merrill (pictured above...
