"Griselda", the grisly new crime drama TV series, directed by Eric Newman and Andrés Baiz, starring Sofía Vergara in prosthetic makeup, is currently in its third week at #1 on the Netflix English TV List:

Almost everyone knows the name of Tony Montana, the fictional drug lord immortalized by Al Pacino in the 1983 movie "Scarface," yet few know the name of Miami's real-life most notorious king, er, queenpin, Griselda Blanco Restrepo. In the late 1970s, Blanco seized control of Miami's drug trade through incredible violence, waging war on any who opposed her. This led to the "Cocaine Cowboy" wars, in which Blanco's enforcers would kill their opponents in broad daylight, sometimes in motorcycle drive-by shootings. Blanco's life story is both fascinating and terrible, full of sex, drugs, and murder, and is totally ripe for a fictionalized interpretation.
Sofia Vergara stars as Blanco in "Griselda," a six-part limited series on Netflix that tells the story of the infamous self-made billionaire, drug pusher, and multiple murderer, although the real story is even more brutal and impossible to believe than the miniseries depicts. Of the dozens of people introduced in Netflix's Griselda, only one remains alive: Michael Corleone Blanco, the youngest son of notorious drug trafficker Griselda Blanco (played by Sofía Vergara). As the docudrama reveals in its finale, Griselda had her husband Darío Sepúlveda (Alberto Guerra) assassinated when he fled to Colombia with Michael, while her three eldest sons, Dixon, Uber, and Ozzy, are suspected to have been murdered by her rivals. The "cocaine godmother" faced a similar fate in 2012, when, after her release from prison, she was gunned down in Medellín by an assailant on a motorcycle — a style of killing she's often credited with bringing to the streets of Miami.

Sofia Vergara Glows In Strapless Golden Gown ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Sofia Vergara is a gorgeous woman with a fantastic physique and a sense of styling. Her social media feed is a treat for admirers, and she has recently captivated everyone with her beauty. The actress is appearing in the series Griselda, and she shimmered in a golden gown at the premiere in Miami.
Sofia is known for her role in the American sitcom Modern Family. Her accent made her funnier on the show, and her comic timing was excellent. The series ran for 11 seasons starting in 2009. Her series Griselda is inspired by actual events showcasing the journey of Griselda Blanco from Medellin to becoming the Godmother of Miami’s drug empire. However, Blanco’s son feels Sofia is too ugly to portray his mother in the Netflix series.

Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers for “Adios, Miami,” the series finale of “Griselda,” now streaming on Netflix.
When viewers arrive at the end of Netflix’s new limited series “Griselda” — about the life and crimes of feared drug lord Griselda Blanco — they might be surprised to learn there is a lot more to the story.
The series doesn’t follow Griselda into her post-prison twilight years. Instead, it ends with the so-called Cocaine Godmother of Miami on the worst day of her life –– a scene that tested Sofía Vergara, the woman playing her.
“It was very emotional for me,” Vergara tells Variety of filming the sixth and final episode. “But I think with the help of [series director Andrés Baiz], I was able to tap into the things that, from the very beginning, made me believe that I could play her.”
In the finale, Griselda is arrested in California and sentenced...

Narcos became one of the most impressive early Netflix hits, and that success allowed the creators to come up with several seasons of the show and a number of spin-offs. Griselda, the new miniseries from Netflix, serves as one of those spin-offs bringing the story of Griselda Blanco to the screen and giving the role to Sofía Vergara in a role that certainly feels out of her comfort zone, and yet, the actress is wholly committed to it. This article contains spoilers for Griselda season 1.
Netflix’s latest crime drama miniseries, Griselda, from the minds behind Narcos, had an immense and wild real-life story to pull from. Just like her infamous contemporary and compatriot Pablo Escobar, Griselda Blanco (aka The Godmother and The Queen of Cocaine), played by an unrecognizable Sofia Vergara, led a notorious life driven by drugs, violence, greed, and murder. And while the show does a pretty comprehensive job of condensing the most thrilling, dramatic aspects and events of her life into six hours, it’s a nearly impossible task to include everything about her. The details in the life of such prominent and vicious criminals like Blanco to pick from are almost endless.
Thus, we gathered the most gripping elements the miniseries chose to leave out.

If you watch enough TV, you should place bets on Netflix’s “Griselda.”
The limited series, from Eric Newman and Andrés Baiz of “Narcos,” stars Sofia Vergara as real-life drug boss Griselda Blanco. Even though it’s based on a real person, the limited series’ beats are visible from miles away, and it’s the rare show that feels like it could’ve used two extra episodes if only to avoid an abrupt ending.
Baiz directs the series, with Vergara on the executive production team that also includes co-creators Doug Miro, Ingrid Escajeda, and Carlo Bernard (Escajeda and Miro serve as showrunners). To drive home the “Narcos” parallels — or at least to pull in the hit show’s audience — “Griselda” opens with a quote from Pablo Escobar himself: “The only man I ever feared was a woman named Griselda Blanco.”
The quote is revealed in three parts — the beginning, the...

Global streamer Starzplay and L.A.-based Spanish-language streaming platform Pantaya have re-teamed with U.K. production-distribution giant Fremantle and the Larraín brothers’ Fabula on sci-fi miniseries “The Shelter” (“El Refugio”).
Starring Alberto Guerra (“La Jauria”) and Ana Claudia Talancón (“Como Caído del Cielo”) and directed by Argentina’s Pablo Fendrik (“El Ardor”), “The Shelter” wraps principal photography this week after 10 weeks of filming in rural areas around Santiago de Chile.
In industry terms, “The Shelter” forms part of a burgeoning axis between like-minded and complementary players in the U.S., Latin America and the U.K. who have been involved in some of the most exciting, relevant and artistically ambitious of recent Spanish-language dramas hitting screens or in the pipeline, whether “La Jauría,” “Señorita 89” – where all four companies partner – or “Express.”
The series captures Fendrik on tremendous TV form after making “Amongst Men” and “The Bronze Garden,” both for HBO Latin America.
