Conceived during a time where the world was battling lockdowns, Emma Miranda Moore’s short drama Run is a small-time story with great emotional depth. It’s about a boy named Charlie who dreams of growing up to be strong enough to confront his confrontational, bullying brother Solomon. One day, during some outdoors exercise, Charlie meets Lisa, a local neighbour in whom he finds a kindred spirit. EastEnders stars Danny Dyer and Maddy Hill were among the major soap winners at the 20th National Television Awards.
The BBC One soap preceded its upcoming anniversary week by beating Hollyoaks, Coronation Street and Emmerdale to Best Serial Drama.
Dyer collected the Serial Drama Performance prize in a category that pitted him against EastEnders co-star Kellie Bright, among others.
"I'll have [the award] Monday and Wednesday, you'll have it Tuesday and Thursday. I'll have it weekends," he joked to Bright in his acceptance speech.
He continued: "I want to thank my kids… Without them, I'd be a tenth of the man I am today. And that ain't much, I'll tell you!"
Bright previously denied any rivalry between herself and Dyer over the award, explaining that she was simply pleased that both were nominated.
