The Chemical Brothers have unveiled the new single, “No Reason,” their first fresh offering in two years.
Produced by the elite electronic duo comprised of Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons, “No Reason” features a sample of the New Wave band Second Layer’s 1979 single, “Courts or Wars.” The track is heavy on the vibes but light on the optimism as a grippingly deep bass and buoyant acid beat swell with wailing vocals that repeat, “We have no reason to live/ We have no reason at all.” Despite the song’s seemingly directionless mindset, its production constantly pushes forward thanks to the group’s myriad of flourishes and tricks, along with some celebratory “woo!”‘s thrown in for good measure. Stream it below.

The Chemical Brothers see the light at the end of the Covid-19 tunnel on the electronic duo’s new song “The Darkness That You Fear,” which the group released Friday after premiering the track earlier in the week during Apple’s spring event.
Despite its gloomy title, “‘The Darkness That You Fear’ is a hopeful piece of music,” the duo’s Tom Rowlands said in a statement. “When we found the combination of the different voices worked set to the flow of the music, it made us feel optimistic — like...

Give it up for the Chemical Brothers. Genres and trends come and go, festival gods rise and fall. Yet Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons stay eternally true to their block rocking vision. The duo has now outlasted two stupidly-named marketing gimmicks designed to sell dance music to normals: electronica (which they sort of helped invent in the Nineties) and Edm (which they’ve admirably ignored throughout the last decade). Their last album, 2016’s Born in the Echoes, stuck with a formula that’s worked for them for a quarter century:...

The Chemical Brothers have detailed their new album No Geography and shared the LP’s latest single “Got to Keep On.” The album arrives April 12th via Astralwerks.
In contrast to 2015’s all-star Born in the Echoes – which boasted guests like Beck, St. Vincent and Q-Tip – No Geography only features Norwegian singer Aurora and Japanese rapper Nene as the Chemical Brothers returned to their roots, as evidenced by the ecstatic throwback “Got to Keep On.”

I’ll just come right out and say it: Born in the Echoes by The Chemical Brothers is what Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories should have been. Both are celebrity-studded electronic music concept albums intended to boldly defy the movement’s status quo during its meteoric rise in popularity, but where the latter group attempted to do so by traveling back in time, the former accomplished it effortlessly by making music that would logically follow their creative momentum in the wake of their 2010 album Further.
Perhaps one of the most legitimate criticisms of contemporary Edm is that it consists of overly specific genres for each of which a single song or album would suffice – and really, by today’s standards, Born in the Echoes could be expanded to an entire genre in and of itself. Largely defined by the experimental use of antiquated analogue synthesizers, the sound achieved by...

The final installment of The Hunger Games film franchise will be unleashed this November, and by the looks of the Mockingjay – Part 2's first trailer, it'll be the tensest yet.

The film's trailer previews the revolution Mockingjay – Part 1 set up and delivers scenes of hope (Finnick Odair's wedding to his beloved Annie Cresta) and despair (more destruction at the hands of the Capitol, as run by President Snow). It's been five years since the last full-scale release from Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons, the English duo behind the electronic outfit Chemical Brothers, but the wait is over. Born in the Echoes is due in July, and its first single, "Sometimes I Feel So Deserted," is laced with so many heavy beat-drops and seamless techno progressions that it's damn near impossible to listen to without busting some serious dance moves. Joining the Chemical Bros. on the new LP are heavy-hitting contemporaries including Beck and Q-Tip, as well as relative newcomers like St. Vincent and Cat Le Bon. The Chemical Brothers will be hitting the festival circuit this summer, though Simons won't be a part of it, citing conflicts with his "academic pursuits." Stream the new song below.

Every year for the past few years, a new "Hunger Games" movie has been unleashed on the world and those releases have come complete with a slew of tie-in merchandise, cunningly synergistic and essential in the studio's desire to build hype and awareness around the young-adult novel adaptations (which star Jennifer Lawrence and are based on books by Suzanne Collins, of course).
But the soundtracks to the films have become mini-events in and of themselves, able to build the kind of fervor the movies usually do (with just as much anticipation and speculation). We attended the junket for next week's "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1"over the weekend, and were handed a copy of the brand-new album (out now physically and digitally) and figured we should rundown the album properly. So here we go!

Jennifer Lawrence braved the cold and windy winter weather in a sleeveless Dior dress at the hotly-anticipated world premiere of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 in London last night.
The 24-year-old actress began the evening in an elegant quilted Dior number with a drop hem design before slipping into a plunging halter-neck Dior floor-length gown for the after-party.
Lawrence, who reprises her role as Katniss Everdeen in the movie based on the teen novels by Suzanne Collins, was joined by co-stars Elizabeth Banks, Natalie Dormer and Jena Malone for the screening in Leicester Square.
Banks arrived in a stunning strapless Elie Saab gown, while Game of Thrones star Dormer looked stylish in a Nicholas Oakwell couture black dress with sheer electric blue detail.
Malone donned an off-the-shoulder white and yellow Emilia Wickstead gown, while Julianne Moore arrived in a figure-hugging black dress.

It’s quite an honor to curate the soundtrack for what will likely be the biggest film of the year, and Lorde is pulling out the big guns as well as lesser-known up-and-coming acts.
In addition to her own contributions, the “Royals” songstress has shared that Kanye West, Miguel, Chvrches and the Chemical Brothers are all included in the track listing.
Lorde shared, "Curating the soundtrack for such a hotly anticipated film was a challenge, but I jumped at the chance. The cast and story are an inspiration for all musicians participating and, as someone with cinematic leanings, being privy to a different creative process has been a unique experience. I think the soundtrack is definitely going to surprise people."
Still holding one surprise in her grasp, Lorde hasn’t announced what the 5th track on the album will be just yet.

Lorde rounded out her all-star "Hunger Games" soundtrack quite nicely, with all-new contributions from Haim, Charli Xcx, Kanye West, Grace Jones, Bat For Lashes, Miguel, the Chemical Brothers and more. The New Zealand-bred Grammy Award winner was charged with curating the sounds for "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1," and the resulting tracklist below. The song titles may not tell you much about what happens in the film, but they may help indicate at least a mood. We're extra curious about the "various" artist for ambiguous "Track 5" -- described as "an additional surprise track that will be revealed soon." Kanye West makes his mark on this set with a remix, of Lorde's previously released "Yellow Flicker Beat" (dubbed "Flicker"); Lorde also combined with Stromae, Pusha T, Q-Tip and Haim for a song called "Meltdown." There is revolution stirring in the forthcoming "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1," and any good rebellion (cough blockbuster) needs a good soundtrack to go with it. Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan will write and direct the final episode of the show himself, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The AMC series will end this summer after five seasons chronicling the drug-world exploits of former high school chemistry teacher Walter White, played by Bryan Cranston, and his punching-bag sidekick Jesse Pinkman, played by Aaron Paul.
Gilligan said last night at the Screenwriters Choice Awards in Beverly Hills that he would take the helm as the show wraps up, which will mark just the fifth time he's directed an episode.

The Grammys are Sunday! And they're bound to be all wrong. Here's our last minute wishlist for the big event.
1. Bjork takes home her first Grammy for Best Alternative Album.
I definitely have no idea what Best Alternative Album means anymore, but I need Bjork to win it. Yes, her competitor Fiona Apple had the more unanimously hailed album, but Bjork's Biophilia is in line with the progressive, one-of-a-kind electronic meditation she's been dishing since, oh, Debut. It is also so stupid that she's competing against Fiona Apple when their music is entirely dissimilar. It's basically like if Lucinda Williams and the Chemical Brothers competed. Or Lily Allen and the White Stripes. Wait, that one actually happened.
2. Carole King defeats Michael Buble and Paul McCartney for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album
First of all: Carole King released a yuletide album called A Holiday Carole. Can you get over it? I can't.

From working in a bottle shop to running a successful PR firm, Stuart Gregor on his big break.
How did you get into the PR industry?
Well, I was working as a waitress in a cocktail bar… Well almost. I was working in a bottle shop in Double Bay after leaving five years of journo- ing at News Limited, two years of bumming around Europe and two years learning about wine and “marketing” at Roseworthy College (in South Australia) and, seriously, the phone rang and a recruiter asked for me. We had a meeting and he asked if I wanted to apply for a job as a PR manager at Mildara Blass wines. It was either that role, with its company car and lavish expense account based in gorgeous Albert Park, or keep delivering cheap brandy to the matrons of Sydney’s eastern suburbs. They missed me. Not entirely reciprocated.
How did you get into the PR industry?
Well, I was working as a waitress in a cocktail bar… Well almost. Olympian and Strictly Come Dancing winner Louis Smith is happy to be a gay icon, but wants all us gays to remember he's really, really straight. “As long as gay people can see the line, and that I fancy women, that’s fine. I don’t want to be put in a difficult, uncomfortable situation.” We'll try to control ourselves.
Jake Shears is thrilled his friend Anderson Cooper has finally come out. He also thinks that gay celebrities have a responsibility to come out. "I think gay celebrities at least have the responsibility to come out. It can be tricky though."
Buzzfeed has a list of seven states that they think could achieve marriage equality in 2013. Illinois, Delaware, Minnesota, Hawaii, New Jersey, Rhode Island and California are in play this year. I think Minnesota is a stretch – we didn't win the fight against a constitutional amendment by much, and assuming...

Promised Land is the new contemporary drama directed by Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting, Milk). Matt Damon plays Steve Butler, an ace corporate salesman who is sent along with his partner, Sue Thomason (Frances McDormand), to close a key rural town in his company’s expansion plans. With the town having been hit hard by the economic decline of recent years, the two outsiders see the local citizens as likely to accept their company’s offer, for drilling rights to their properties, as much-needed relief. What seems like an easy job for the duo becomes complicated by the objection of a respected schoolteacher (Hal Holbrook) with support from a grassroots campaign led by another man (John Krasinski), as well as the interest of a local woman (Rosemarie DeWitt). Promised Land explores America at the crossroads where big business and the strength of small-town community converge. The film will be...

And the winners of the 2013 Grammy Awards are ... the men. Male artists dominate the nominees in the top categories for the 55th Annual Grammy Awards, announced Wednesday night (Dec. 5).
Topping the list with six nominations each are Jay-z, Kanye West, Fun., Mumford & Sons, Frank Ocean and Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys.
Taylor Swift, whose new album "Red" won't be eligible for consideration until 2014, earned a single nod for Record of the Year with her hit breakup single "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together."
The biggest snubs are teen heartthrobs Justin Bieber and One Direction, who cleaned up at the American Music Awards, and Rihanna. The "Diamonds" singer earned a trio of nods (pop solo performance for her "Where Have You Been," rap-sung collaboration nomination with Jay-z for "Talk That Talk" and short-form music video for "We Found Love") but is Mia from the major categories.

Solange, "True Ep" (Terrible Records)
Solange's new 7-track Ep is a fine collection of smooth songs that will continue to help the singer find her spot in the music world outside of sister Beyonce's immense shadow.
The Ep is the follow-up to 2008's "Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams," a wonderfully crafted retro-soul adventure. Solange continues with that sound on "True," collaborating with British musician Devonte Hynes, who has also worked with The Chemical Brothers and Diana Vickers.
The album finds the 26-year-old singing about a relationship that hasn't really worked out. The lead single and opening track, "Losing You," kicks off things terrifically with its odd (but amazing) beat and Solange's dreamy vocals. Each song flows easily into the next, making the Ep easy listening and addictive.
At times, Solange is a vocal tease: She starts songs lightly and often adds enjoyable riffs near the end of the tracks.

Klaxons have teamed with The Chemical Brothers to work on their upcoming album. Ed Simons is one of the producers who has been working with the band for their third outing. Klaxons bassist Jamie Reynolds told Radio 1's Zane Lowe that the recording sessions had been a "learning curve". "We've worked with loads of different people, but it's been a learning process I think," he said. "We have learned to make electronic music with computers, that's (more)...

Dexter Fletcher tells Jason Solomons about his forthcoming cockney western
Wild Bill team go west
Following the success of his directing debut, Wild Bill, former child actor Dexter Fletcher is making a full-blown western, set in Arizona. However, he tells me, Provenance will still be made up of Londoners, this time seeking their fortune in the frontier towns of the American west. "I've always loved westerns but have never been able to be in one," Dexter says. "I tried to work a lot western ideas into Wild Bill and I feel really lucky to be able to actually get to make one of my own, in real western country." BBC Films is backing the film and Mark Strong is set to star, alongside Sammy Williams, the kid in Wild Bill who also featured in Joe Cornish's Attack the Block. Ever since Napster hit the scene and forever changed the way we distribute music, the music industry has been fighting a slow death over the past few years and while record labels still exist, they are quickly becoming a dated way to “make it” with YouTube, at home ProTools rigs and countless social media outlets (Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Soundcloud) available for artists to truly Diy their careers rather than wait for the elusive record contract to “change their lives.” While established artists like The Chemical Brothers, Phoenix and Daft Punk have taken to the conductor’s podium to create scores for films such as Hanna, Somewhere and Tron: Legacy (can someone also get Muse attached to a project, please?), bands that are not yet well-known are taking their music out of local clubs and putting them onto the silver screen for better (and bigger) exposure. One band, a multi-media group based out of Brooklyn called Fall On Your Sword, caught...

Just when you thought it was all about 2013 now for the studios, the leftover holes in the 2012 film calendar are getting filled up quick. While many, including us, were expecting it to be a 2013 picture, Paramount has announced that Robert Zemeckis' "Flightplan" (now simply known as "Flight") starring Denzel Washington will land in theaters on November 2. Oscar-watch? Hmm, hard to tell and our gut says no, but this one does read more drama than actioner. It's got a fairly easy run, opening against teen movie "21 And Over" and Disney animation "Wreck-It Ralph," although 007 flick "Skyfall" follows the week after. Co-starring Don Cheadle, Brian Geraghty, John Goodman, James Badge Dale and Bruce Greenwood, "Flight" centers on an airline pilot (Washington) who saves a plane from crashing, but an investigation into the malfunctions reveals something troubling: his alcohol issues.
Paramount is also evidently feeling pretty good about "The Guilt Trip." About...

Louis Leterrier, who broke out with Jason Statham on the first two "The Transporter" films, and went on to direct large scale blockbusters like "The Incredible Hulk" and "Clash Of The Titans," has shifted gears slightly for his next film, the magician-heist tale "Now You See Me."
Featuring in intriguing ensemble that includes Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman, Isla Fisher Melanie Laurent, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Michael Caine and Common, the story follows the Robin Hood-esque tale of a team of the world’s greatest illusionists, who pull off a series of daring bank heists during their performances and shower the profits onto their audiences.
Now, courtesy of USA Today, we have the first official look at Fisher's character, the group's escape artist, evidently in the midst of a daring display. "So many things can go wrong on something like this," the actress joked. "And I was doing the scene in high heels.

The nominees for the 2012 MTV Movie Awards have been unveiled this week, and as always, they are kind of hilarious if not downright random. But when you stop and think about it, are they any more ridiculous or arbitrary than the Oscars? Last year's MTV Movie Awards did at least acknowledge a few of the more "critically acclaimed" films of the year including The Social Network and Black Swan, but this year it's basically all teen entertainment, all the time. Ironically, this year they claim the nominees were selected by a panel of industry folks instead of the general public... go figure. Among the more creative categories this year they have introduced "Best On-Screen Dirtbag" and "Best Gut-Wrenching Performance" (whatever that means). The good news is that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 may actually have a shot at winning some awards this time, and hey, Ryan Gosling...

2012 MTV Movie Awards Nominees
Nominations for the 2012 MTV Movie Awards are out and even though several films racked up their expected nominations, the story is more about what's not there.
After dominating the ceremony for three years running, the latest Twilight movie (Breaking Dawn - Part 1) garnered two nominations. Two. Though it made it into Movie of the Year, the only other time the mega-hit franchise got its name called was for Best Kiss. This ends the three-peats of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in Best Female Performance and Best Male Performance, respectively, with co-star Taylor Lautner failing to pick up a third nomination, as well.
But if Twilight has been passed up, what took its place? The Hunger Games, Bridesmaids, and Harry Potter all made out like gangbusters, pretty well covering nearly every category. Throw in three nominations for the internet's boyfriend Ryan Gosling and nods for everything from...

Katniss Everdeen may have survived the Games, but we'll have to see how she fares against Kristen Wiig and her band of crazies — or, rather, ladies — as "The Hunger Games" and "Bridesmaids" lead the 2012 MTV Movie Award nominations with eight apiece, including Movie of the Year.
That's not a typo: The usually dominant "Twilight" series and its 2011 entry, "Breaking Dawn - Part 1," nabbed only two nominations (Movie of the Year and Best Kiss), while movies like "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2," (six noms) "21 Jump Street" (six) and "The Help" (four) fared better and will have more chances at bringing home Golden Popcorn statues.
That's not the only shakeup we'll see at MTV's 21st annual celebration of all things big screen: New categories this year include Best Breakthrough Performance, Best Cast, Best Onscreen Transformation, Best Gut-Wrenching Performance, Best Onscreen Dirtbag and Best Music.
