On September 15, 1965, Irwin Allen whisked television viewers out of their living rooms on a journey to the outer reaches of space, where the Robinson family finds themselves marooned on a strange, not-entirely-hospitable planet thanks to the sabotage of their chief medical officer. For a nation dreaming of a seemingly impossible moon landing, "Lost in Space" was both wish fulfillment and cautionary tale; a part of us was enthralled by the notion of exploring the cosmos, but we were also terrified by the thought of aimlessly hurtling through a universe with no known end and no direction home.
Allen's series didn't dwell much on the more frightening aspects of the Robinsons' predicament. Unlike Gene Roddenberry's "Star Trek" (which would debut a year later), Allen employed a fairly rigid formula that found the Robinsons and the hunky Major Don West (Mark Goddard) having to outwit the generally inept scheming of Dr.

William Hurt, who died on March 13 at age 71, will be remembered for some remarkable performances over the years. A gay South American prisoner in the 1985 groundbreaking drama “Kiss of the Spider Woman” (for which he won an Oscar for Best Actor). A speech teacher who falls in love with a deaf janitor in 1986’s “Children of a Lesser God” (for which he was nominated for Best Actor). An in-over-his-head anchorman in James L. Brook’s 1987 comedy “Broadcast News” (another Oscar nom).
“Altered States,” “Body Heat”, “The Big Chill,” “A History of Violence” — the list goes on and on.
But I didn’t meet Hurt on any of those great film sets. Instead, I got to watch him agonize over his acting choices in a picture that won’t make anybody’s best-of lists, least of all his own. That would be 1998’s “Lost in Space,” a big-budget, big-screen adaptation of...

The Robinson family is getting one last go-around: Netflix has renewed its visually impressive “Lost in Space,” sci-fi series for a third and final season.
The series, a reimagining of the 1960 series of the same name that also ran for three seasons, centers on the tight-knit and inexhaustibly inventive Robinson family, who set off for the Alpha Centauri star system with a handful of other colonists after Earth threatened to become inhospitable in the distant future. Unfortunately, the Robinsons have faced obstacle after obstacle over the last two seasons, the latest of which ended with the children getting separated from their parents in a far-flung star system. Now, the Robinsons have one last chance (and season) to reunite and finally make their way to Alpha Centauri.
The Robinson family consists of Will (Maxwell Jenkins), a young child who bonds with a powerful alien Robot (Brian Steele), expert doctor Judy (Taylor Russell...

Lost in Space has been renewed by Netflix for a third season, in which The Robinson Family’s epic space journey towards Alpha Centauri will conclude.
While the series is coming to a close, Netflix and Lost in Space Executive Producer/ showrunner Zack Estrin have agreed to enter a multi-year overall deal to produce new series exclusively at Netflix.
It also sounds like the decision to end the series was all Estrin.
Estrin says, “From the beginning, we've always viewed this particular story of The Robinsons as a trilogy."
"A three part epic family adventure with a clear beginning, middle and end. It's also worth noting that, with what these characters go through just trying to survive each episode — if anyone deserves to catch their breath before their next mission -- it’s Will, Penny, Judy, Maureen, John, Don West, Dr. Smith... and The Robot."
"And, of course, Debbie the Chicken.

With lives hanging in the balance at the end of Lost in Space season 2, here’s our explanation of what really happened in the finale.
Lost in Space is no stranger to cliffhanger endings, and once again this year, the finale of season 2 finds most of the principal characters in dramatic limbo. In addition to the children of the Resolute failing to reach Alpha Centauri and being “lost in space” once again, the Robinson parents and Don West have no idea how to catch up or where their kids actually are. Somehow we have to account for Dr. Smith’s whereabouts as well since it appears her sacrifice may not have as been as permanent as her floating, shattered helmet would indicate. There’s even quite a bit of speculation surrounding the fate of the Fortuna and the planet where the kids ended up. We can only...

Lost in Space returns to Netflix just in time for the holiday season on December 24, and that's no coincidence.
The second season of the Robinson family's adventure in outer space is even more focused on togetherness and the meaning of family than ever before.
Each daring escapade that comes their way reinforces that they're stronger together than they would ever be apart.
It's no wonder that so many people they meet along the way want to stand with them. The Robinsons are an inspiration to others to be better.
Nothing about Lost In Space is divisive, and no venture is too frightening that the entire family cannot enjoy.
The Robinsons represent the best in all of us, even when we're not at our best.
Because yes, the family faces challenges within their relationship as often as they do from outside, even alien forces.
What makes the show work and such...

Entering Jupiter 2 never gets old for Lost in Space executive producer and showrunner Zack Estrin.
As if he hasn’t already shot two seasons worth of footage inside the massive soundstage outside Vancouver, Estrin is bouncing around the ship’s interior as he shows off some “science fiction touchpoints” of the design, from the circular shape that pays homage to the original show’s Jupiter 2 to the lived-in ambiance that echoes the rusty Millennium Falcon. Netflix has a holiday treat in the form of Lost in Space Season 2.
The streamer previously announced the show would be back December 24, and now we have the full-length trailer.
Lost in Space focuses on the aftermath of an impact event that threatens the survival of humanity, with the Robinson family being selected for the 24th mission of the Resolute (24th Colonist Group), a spacecraft carrying selected families to colonize the Alpha Centauri star system.
However, an alien robot breaches the Resolute's hull, meaning that many people are sent to a nearby habitable planet, where they must find a way to return home, while simultaneously dealing with their own personal issues.
