J. J. Nota, born Jared Óscar José de Oliveira Nota is a Mozambican screenwriter, director, cinematographer, editor and producer, co-creator of Afrocinemakers, an independent film incubator for no and low budget films in Mozambique, Maputo.
His first work was Penumbra, a psychological thriller in 2017. He achieved prominence with his short-film Ontogenesis which won the national short-film competition. He has also written a sci-fi novel called Twisted Destination.
He has collaborated with filmmakers like Sol de Carvalho, in fiction and in documentaries such as Além do Tempo - 45 years of diplomatic relations between Cuba-Mozambique, as director of photography and motion graphics artist.
His films include: Penumbra, Avoiding Fate, At First Melody, Ontogenesis, Constellations, Adventures of Doc Nota, Khoisan, Beyond Time - 45 years of diplomatic relations between Cuba-Mozambique among others.
