Told from the perspective of a young girl raised by her single gay father to be a woman who is “strong and tolerant and not afraid of this world,” Fairyland reveals the intensely personal nature of its origins in Alysia Abbott’s 2013 memoir at every step of the characters’ complicated evolution together. Like that sometimes strained relationship, this debut feature from photographer Andrew Durham often feels stuck, but eventually reaches its destination with clear-eyed compassion and an emotionally powerful reconciliation. Those qualities are captured with enormous sensitivity in the lead performances of Emilia Jones and Scoot McNairy.
With a producing team led by Sofia Coppola for American Zoetrope, this is a bittersweet drama about unconventional parenting and alternative families that will resonate loudest with LGBTQ audiences. But its surge of final-act feeling will speak to any audience that has ever experienced the startling reckoning that comes with grief.

Kristen Stewart, Jamie Dornan, Mahershala Ali, Kirsten Dunst, Jake Gyllenhaal and Javier Bardem were among the stars who came out Saturday to celebrate the contributions of artisan, craft and technical crew members at the 11th annual Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards.
“We seem to get a lot of the attention and the kudos when movies come out but reality is that it’s guys like Haris who do all the work,” said Dornan of Haris Zambarloukos, who was honored with the Cinematographer award for “Belfast.”
Hosted by Yvonne Orji, the “Insecure” star said the Hamilton kudos are not about actors for a change: this time: “We want you to know that we see you, we appreciate you and tonight we applaud you.”
Denis Villeneuve was honored with the Visionary Award for his directorial work in “Dune,” presented by Bardem at the ceremony held at Avalon Hollywood’s Bardot event space.

“Coming 2 America,” the long-awaited sequel to Eddie Murphy’s 1988 “Coming to America,” was the most-streamed title in the U.S. the week of its premiere, according to new Nielsen data.
The movie, released March 4 on Amazon Prime Video, drew 1.413 billion minutes of total viewing for the week of March 1-7 among U.S. viewers, per Nielsen’s SVOD Content Ratings estimates. African American viewers accounted for 40% of the film’s audience, according to the media measurement firm.
That put “Coming 2 America” ahead of every other TV show or movie on major streaming subscription services for the period, according to Nielsen — and represents Prime Video’s first No. 1 spot on the rankings.
The next most-viewed title for that week was Netflix original series “Ginny & Georgia” with 1.16 billion minutes over 10 episodes, followed by reruns of “Criminal Minds” on Netflix (929 million minutes) and Disney Plus’ “WandaVision” (924 million minutes). Also notable...

Zamunda might be King Akeem’s kingdom, but the “Coming to America” wouldn’t be complete without its Queens.
While Shari Headley’s Lisa McDowell captured fans’ attention and Akeem’s (Eddie Murphy) heart with her confidence and headstrong attitude in the 1988 original, “Coming 2 America” boasts a new crop of ladies who are ready to speak their minds and take their rightful place at the center of Zamunda’s legend, including KiKi Layne, Bella Murphy, Akiley Love and Nomzamo Mbatha.
“I’ve been watching this movie since I was a little kid. I wasn’t even born when the first one came out,” Layne, who plays Akeem and Lisa’s eldest daughter Meeka, tells Variety. “They never stop being funny, but for a lot of people that [movie] was the first time that people in African culture were represented [onscreen] as kings and queens, and rich, and had a wealth of resources and knowledge.

Craig Brewer is a white filmmaker not unaccustomed to Black-centered stories. Barring his 2000 indie debut, “The Poor & Hungry,” and his 2011 “Footloose” remake, his films predominantly feature African-American protagonists. Brewer based his Memphis-set Southern rap drama “Hustle & Flow” on his friendships with hip-hop artists Al Kapone, Juicy J, and DJ Paul. (John Singleton produced the film.) The blaxploitation-influenced “Black Snake Moan,” whose framed poster features a provocative, menacing Samuel L. Jackson standing over a chained daisy-duke wearing Christina Ricci, peaks from behind Brewer’s shoulder, while hanging on his wall.
Brewer is still riding high from his first Eddie Murphy collaboration — the widely successful “Dolemite Is My Name,” a light-hearted biopic of blaxploitation icon Rudy Ray Moore that garnered the best reviews of the filmmaker’s career while ushering a comeback for Murphy. An ‘80s cinema fanatic, “The Breakfast Club” and “Purple Rain” greatly impacted the Memphis filmmaker, as did...

Now that all that nasty February snow has finally melted away, many minds are filled with thoughts of travel, perhaps to an exotic destination. Or could you be yearning to revisit an old familiar spot, somewhere filled with laughter and dear friends from long ago? Sure with the vaccines rolling out, things are looking a lot brighter than last March (the last theatre advance screening was exactly a year to the weekend), but you may want to hold off before hitting those “getaway” websites. Why not combine those desires into a virtual reunion, mostly set in an exotic land that’s been in your movie dreams for nearly 33 years? That’s the major selling point for this weekend’s highly anticipated sequel. After his more-or-less traditional “final fade-out” happy ending in 1988, Prince Akeem boards the royal jet for Queens, NY for Coming 2 America.

I don’t envy the job of anyone tasked with taking a classic Eighties comedy — Coming to America, say — and making a decades-later sequel that tries to please its guaranteed audience. Namely, everyone who loved the original, people who’ve rewatched it a million times, who have Soul Glo memes saved on their phones, who know every word to Sexual Chocolate’s song who — as in my case — grew up in families where Coming to America was probably the only consensus movie that everyone from my grandmother down to myself...

Mumbai, Feb 25: Bella Murphy, daughter of Hollywood star Eddie Murphy is all set to make her big screen debut alongside her father in the upcoming film, 'Coming 2 America'.
The film is a sequel to the Eddie Murphy-starrer of 1988, 'Coming To America'. Nineteen-year-old newcomer Bella says the original film shaped her humour.
In 2021 sequel, Bella plays the role of Omma, who is calm, cool and, as she notes, "royal, but not too stuffy". Omma is the type of person who analyses a situation before she reacts.
Bella saw the original film when she was just 11. "I remember it being really funny to watch. It shaped a lot of my humor, too. I'm really passionate about pursuing acting, so when my dad told me about this part, I was excited about auditioning and also, training for the role. It was fun to do it all with him,...

Thirty years after his original journey, Prince Akeem of the fictional African nation Zamunda is returning to Queens to find an unexpected heir to the throne. Eddie Murphy reprises his role from the 1988 hit comedy “Coming to America” as an overly-coddled Zamundan royal who travels to New York to find the woman of his dreams. While the movie divided critics, it resonated with audiences who were charmed by Murphy’s likable prince; it wound up grossing over $288 million worldwide. Is there enough of an appetite for a sequel 33 years later?

'Coming 2 America' trailer is out now.
Amazon Prime Video dropped the official trailer for the Eddie Murphy-led upcoming comedy film 'Coming 2 America' and it doesn’t disappoint at all.
The rom-com film is a sequel to 1998's hit comedy flick 'Coming to America' and sees the 59-year-old actor reprises his iconic role as Prince Akeem Joffer, the Prince of Zamunda.
The new trailer kicks off with the voice of James Earl Jones, who plays Akeem's father King Jaffe Joffer, who orders him to return to America to find his son about whom he knew nothing.
"You must heed my words before I'm gone, my son," he says. "Now you will be king. But the throne must pass to a male heir. Akeem, it appears, you have a son. He must be found," as per The Hollywood Reporter.

Eddie Murphy is back in one of his most iconic roles. Yes, Prince Akeem is again going to tickle our funny bones. A sequel to Coming to America had long been spoken about, but it finally happened. Moreover, we now have a Trailer for Coming 2 America which we can pour over. Of course, the film notably got acquired by Amazon Studios and will drop on Amazon Prime Video in March, so we have a bit of a wait (one that excludes it from any Oscar consideration this year). Still, it’s something exciting, and you can see the Trailer at the end of this post… The movie is, obviously, a Coming to America sequel. The synopsis is as follows: “Set in the lush and royal country of Zamunda, newly-crowned King Akeem (Eddie Murphy) and his trusted confidante Semmi (Arsenio Hall) embark on an all-new hilarious adventure that has them...

Amazon dropped the trailer for “Coming 2 America” Tuesday, featuring Eddie Murphy reprising his iconic role as Prince Akeem from “Coming to America” — actually, that’s King Akeem now — and taking on a few other parts you’ll remember from the 1988 comedy, plus some new ones.
And not to be outdone, Murphy’s “Coming to America” co-star Arsenio Hall — who is back as Akeem’s trusted confidante, Semmi — is also playing multiple roles again.
Per Amazon, “Set in the lush and royal country of Zamunda, newly-crowned King Akeem (Eddie Murphy) and his trusted confidante Semmi (Arsenio Hall) embark on an all-new hilarious adventure that has them traversing the globe from their great African nation to the borough of Queens, New York – where it all began.”

"Well, I'll be damned! Look who done come up in here!" Amazon has revealed the first trailer for Coming 2 America, the long-awaited sequel to the beloved comedy classic Coming to America from 1988. Both boys are back! Akeem learns he has a long-lost son in the United States and must return to America to meet the unlikely heir to the throne of Zamunda. This "all-new hilarious adventure" has them traversing the globe from their great African nation to the borough of Queens. Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall both return as Akeem and Semmi, joined by Jermaine Fowler, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, KiKi Layne, Shari Headley, with Wesley Snipes and James Earl Jones. Also starring John Amos, Teyana Taylor, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Paul Bates, Nomzamo Mbatha, and Bella Murphy. Featuring costumes by Oscar winner Ruth E. Carter. This plays much more like a teaser trailer re-introducing to the characters, not much footage from their new adventure.

Amazon Studios has unveiled the first trailer for “Coming 2 America,” which sees the return of Eddie Murphy as the charming Prince Akeem.
In the upcoming sequel, Prince Akeem, who is set to become the king of the fictional country of Zamunda, finds out he has a son he never knew about — a street-savvy Queens native, Lavelle. To honor the former king’s dying wish to raise his grandson as the crown prince, Akeem and his younger brother, Semmi, once again leave for America.
The 1988 “Coming to America,” directed by John Landis, introduced Murphy as a young royal who moves to New York City to escape an arranged marriage. Murphy’s co-stars James Earl Jones and Arsenio Hall will also reprise their roles as King Jaffe Joffer and Semmi, respectively. They will be joined by Jermaine Fowler, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, KiKi Layne, Shari Headley, Wesley Snipes, John Amos, Teyana Taylor,...
