All the Yellowstone fans are waiting now until the last part of the final season of today’s most popular western series is finally out. There have been so many speculations on whatever is going to happen to the series regulars and what fate will face the infamous ranch.
For example, fans have been predicting the fall of the Dutton family headmaster, not only because it seems like a right thing to go with, but also because we know Kevin Costner will not be the part of the last episodes.
But rumor has it that Beth Dutton will be there, portrayed still by Kelly Reilly. The actress has been playing the part of Beth since the show premiered in 2018 and since then became the only character that awakens all sorts of emotions in fans, being this unstable master manipulator slash still lovable girlboss.

Kenneth Branagh is back for this third — and by TheWrap’s account, best — appearance as Agatha Christie’s detective Hercule Poirot in “A Haunting in Venice.” He also directs the spooky mystery, which boasts a terrific lineup of murder suspects (and potential victims), including Michelle Yeoh, Tina Fey, Jamie Dornan and Kelly Reilly.
Here’s who plays which character in the film based on Christie’s 1969 novel “Hallowe’en Party” — and where you might have seen the less familiar names before.
“A Haunting in Venice” is now streaming on Disney+.

British actor Kenneth Branagh reprises his role as the fussy Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot, whom he previously played in the recent remakes “Murder on the Orient Express” and “Death on the Nile.” The film begins in 1947 with Poirot retired from sleuthing and leading a quiet life in Venice — until he’s dragged into a new case.

Kenneth Branagh’s latest Agatha Christie adaptation “A Haunting in Venice” has been rattling North American theaters for a week now, signaling the start to spooky season with a packed ensemble cast featuring the likes of Tina Fey, Jamie Dornan, Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh and “Yellowstone” star Kelly Reilly.
Branagh’s players (and the director himself) weren’t able speak on behalf of the moody chamber piece due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Variety caught up with veteran producer Judy Hofflund to discuss Fey’s journey to leading lady status in a film from this era, as well as the future of Branagh’s mustachioed sleuth.
“Venice” was greenlit shortly after Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox. How did the release of “Death on the Nile” and the new regime take to the franchise?

A Haunting in Venice is both the best Kenneth Branagh film and the best Agatha Christie adaptation in decades. Adapted from the famed mystery writer’s 1969 novel Hallowe’en Party, Branagh returns as Hercule Poirot, the iconic Belgian detective with a penchant for sweets and the world’s most mustachioed mustache. This time the year is 1947 and we are in the Floating City. World War II has just ended and the melancholy of death and despair hangs over everything, despite the beautiful setting.
Recently retired, Poirot is lured back into the game via frenemy Ariadne Oliver, an avatar for Christie herself. The verdict is in.
In its second weekend, supernatural horror pic The Nun II narrowly prevailed over Kenneth Branagh’s new entry A Haunting in Venice, the third installment in his Agatha Christie-inspired movie series.
The Nun sequel took in $14.5 million, compared to $14.3 million for A Haunting in Venice, according to Monday actuals.
The race was too close to call on Sunday, when estimates from New Line/Warner Bros. showed the Nun sequel grossing $14.7 million for the weekend, while 20th Century Studios/Disney had Haunting in Venice earning $14.5 million. When Sunday projections are this close — only $200,000 separate the two films — the industry generally considers it a tie until final numbers are tallied.
A Haunting in Venice had hoped to top the chart in its debut. While the threequel opened in line with expectations, it’s still a muted start for the film, which will need strong legs to come out ahead.

20th Century Studios’ new entry A Haunting in Venice — the third installment in Kenneth Branagh’s Agatha Christie-inspired movie series — is in a close race with New Line Cinema’s holdover The Nun II for the box office weekend crown.
Based on Friday business, both films are looking at a gross in the $13.5 million to $14.5 million range. Most rival studios show A Haunting prevailing.
While A Haunting in Venice is opening in line with expectations, it’s still a muted start for the movie and isn’t far ahead of the last film in the series, Death on the Nile, which opened to $12.8 million in February 2022, when the box office was still in recovery mode. The sequel was among the many films delayed because of Covid-19; it also had to contend with negative publicity surrounding star Armie Hammer (he doesn’t appear in the new film). That film’s...

Box Office: ‘A Haunting in Venice’ Gondolas to $5.5 Million Opening Day, ‘Nun II’ Contends for No. 1
Hercule Poirot is back on the case this weekend, with Kenneth Branagh’s “A Haunting in Venice” hoping to best a very quiet box office in its opening. The horror-tinged whodunnit scored $5.5 million from 3,305 theaters on its opening day, a figure that includes $1.2 million in Thursday previews. The film gets a boost from increased ticket prices for premium large formats like Imax.
“Haunting” is pacing a bit ahead of last year’s “Death on the Nile,” which opened to $12.8 million on Super Bowl weekend after some prolonged shuffles around Disney and 20th Century Studios’ schedule due to the Covid pandemic. “A Haunting in Venice,” the third Agatha Christie adaptation from Branagh, arrives with less of a financial burden — the production budget of $60 million is a notable drop from its predecessor’s $90 million. Kenneth Branagh’s second Agatha Christie film Death on the Nile, did not have a smooth ride. Its release was delayed several times due to first Disney buying the studio that made the film, 20th Century Fox, and then the Covid pandemic, and its cast turned out to be a Pandora’s Box of, at best, bad PR and at worst, criminal allegations.
Back in 2020 then, when Branagh was filming his autobiographically inspired family drama, Belfast, a third Hercule Poirot film wasn’t necessarily a given. Though Agatha Christie’s estate and Branagh were keen to make further sequels to 2017 hit Murder on the Orient Express, the next Christie movie had yet to be greenlit.
That uncertainty inspired Branagh to tuck a Poirot Easter Egg into Belfast as “an offering to the gods,” as he told The Hollywood Reporter. “They can tell us, in the end, if we’ll be allowed to make it.

The third film in Kenneth Branagh’s re-imagined Hercule Poirot series, A Haunting in Venice, earned $1.2M at Thursday Preview screenings. The spooktacular adaptation of Agatha Christie‘s Hallowe’en novel could perform similarly to other chapters of Branagh’s Poirot films, with a weekend gross of roughly $15M.
While the numbers barely move the needle compared to 2023’s other box office barn burners, it’s worth noting that A Haunting in Venice is Branagh’s best-reviewed Poirot film with a 77% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Poirot’s latest case might not pack the star power of 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express or 2022’s Death on the Nile. Still, it includes Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh and multi-talented funny gal Tina Fey. If A Haunting in Venice plays its tarot cards right, it could send The Nun II to the back of the pews after a 60%+ dip in attendance.

Hildur Guðnadóttir grew up on Agatha Christie mysteries. “I totally lived for those novels,” the composer says. Ever since then, she has wanted to sink her teeth into story by the famous author. So when director Kenneth Branagh approached her, she said yes. “He wanted to do something darker and almost horror, and that dark stuff was tempting for me.”
Dark moods are a signature theme for Guðnadóttir. The Oscar-winning composer’s work includes “Joker,” “Sicario: Day of the Soldado,” “Tár” and she will be back for “Joker: Folie à Deux.”
The film is based on Christie’s 1969 novel “Halloween Party,” and stars Tina Fey, Jude Hill, Kelly Reilly and Jamie Dornan, with Branagh reprising his role as Hercule Poirot from “Death on the Nile” and “Murder on the Orient Express.” Set in an eerie Venetian villa with a ghostly past, it revolves around a séance Poirot reluctantly attends on All Hallows’ Eve.

This article contains major spoilers for "A Haunting in Venice."
The murder mystery "whodunit" has very close ties to the horror genre; in fact, some may argue that murder mysteries deserve to be considered a part of the horror genre, full stop. It's splitting hairs, of course, but the question is one of tone and focus — most horror stories put a bigger emphasis on the act(s) of murder, while most mystery stories are about murder's after-effects.
"A Haunting in Venice" is the latest cinematic Agatha Christie adaptation by Kenneth Branagh in which he serves a dual role on both sides of the camera, as both director and actor portraying the central role of detective Hercule Poirot. Branagh's previous adaptations of Christie's Poirot mysteries, "Murder on the Orient Express" and "Death on the Nile," were films that fit neatly into the mystery genre and even, in a couple of instances,...

Branagh has directed and starred a few of these Christie classic mysteries as Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, featuring star casts and a big, splashy out-sized approach (including Branagh version of Poirot’s famous mustache). Those films have been based on very familiar Agatha Christie mysteries, the ones that have been done, on big screen and small, many times before over the years, which meant they invited comparison, sometimes unfavorable, to some stellar films and productions.
With A Haunting In Venice, Branagh takes a different tack. This Agatha Christie mystery film is based on a less-familiar Poirot mystery, Christie’s “Hallowe’en Party,...

Plot: While on an early retirement, famed private detective Hercule Poirot finds himself lured back into the world of mysteries. Specifically one fueled by the occult and invisible haunts that go bump in the night.
Review: Kenneth Branagh’s cinematic career began with the Bard. The director’s debut was his bold take on William Shakespeare’s Henry V. The film garnered massive buzz, leading to an Academy Award nomination for his performance and directorial efforts. The praise was so impressive that Branagh was awarded the BAFTA for Best Director. He followed up his early career with a feature film version of Much Ado About Nothing a few years later. And now, with the recent Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile, and the upcoming A Haunting in Venice, the man who reawakened Shakespeare is bringing us the gifts of an Agatha Christie cinematic universe. Chicago – While Kenneth Branagh still isn’t a favorite Hercule Poirot, I was as surprised as anyone to find that this third go around as the Belgian detective was my favorite. As the title implies, there are jump scares a-plenty as Poirot tries to get his little gray cells around the strange goings-on in a spooky house, and solve the mystery.

Massive spoilers for "A Haunting in Venice" follow.
The adventures of Hercule Poirot — "probably the greatest detective in the world," as he once so humbly referred to himself — have been well documented by this point. Beginning with Agatha Christie's literary accounts of the detective's cases, the character continued to thrive beyond his creator's passing in 1976, with other authors concocting new mysteries for Poirot to solve.
Of course, Christie's Poirot output, stretching as it did from 1920-1975, was ripe for adaptation to other mediums, and indeed Poirot has turned up numerous times in everything from stage plays to radio dramas to television shows to, of course, the movies. By the time director/star Kenneth Branagh made his way to bringing Poirot back to the big screen on both sides of the camera, most of the best Poirot stories had already been adapted in one form or another.

Oscar winner Kenneth Branagh is back as the famous Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, this time pulled out of retirement to possibly expose a phony séance, in the murder mystery A Haunting in Venice.
The film opens in 1947 with a retired Poirot living a relaxed and peaceful life in Venice when he’s visited by an old friend, mystery novelist Ariadne Oliver. Ariadne needs his talents and insists Poirot attend a Halloween party and séance with her at the palazzo of the famous opera singer Rowena Drake. Ariadne wants his help to prove or disprove that the medium, Mrs. Reynolds, is a fake.
During the party before the séance, Poirot meets Rowena and hears the tragic story of how her lovesick daughter, Alicia (Rowan Robinson), committed suicide by jumping off the balcony into the canal below. Rowena,...

Hercule Poirot does not have the same step he used to. But, much to his clear intent, neither does Kenneth Branagh. While barely 18 months have passed since we last saw Branagh and his fabulous Belgian mustache in Death on the Nile, that second turn as Poirot for the director/actor was so delayed due to Covid and industry politics that it outlived 20th Century Fox by nearly three years. In the interim, Branagh moved on to other things and other distractions, including an Oscar he picked up for Belfast.
So, like his onscreen detective, Branagh has had a great deal of time to meditate on choices made—and those yet to be pursued. This may be one of the reasons A Haunting in Venice is such a different beast from its predecessors. Like the filmmaker’s previous whodunit efforts, Nile and 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express, Venice is an...

The September of sequels keeps rolling along with another journey into Agatha Christie territory for actor/director Kenneth Branagh with “A Haunting in Venice.” Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
The last time Branagh donned the trademark mustache of French Inspector Hercule Poirot, it was for the 2022 release “Death on the Nile,” another star-studded ensemble whodunnit that was released just as the Omicron variant of Covid was winding down. It opened with a pitiful $12.9 million and made $130.3 million worldwide, compared to the $351.8 million of 2018’s “Murder on the Orient Express.” Now, Disney has allowed Branagh to give the franchise another go.
“A Haunting in Venice” changes locale once again, this installment delving more into the realms of horror with Branagh joined by Tina Fey as mystery writer Ariadne Oliver, Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh as a medium they encounter, Jamie Dornan and Jude Hill from Branagh’s “Belfast,...

Murder mysteries, particularly those of the Agatha Christie variety, tend to be feasts for actors, affording them the chance to play colorful, eccentric, and often more than a little bit sleazy characters who may or may not like to dabble in homicide on the side. Such was the case with director Kenneth Branagh's first two films in his Hercule Poirot cinematic universe, "Murder on the Orient Express" and "Death on the Nile." For his third go at adapting Christie's super-sleuth for the big screen, "A Haunting in Venice," Branagh has once again surrounded himself (and his ginormous curly mustache) as Poirot with a cast that represents the cream of the crop when it comes to character actors working today.
"A Haunting in Venice" (you can read /Film's review here) adapts one of Christie's lesser-known Poirot novels, "Hallowe'en Party," in order to put something of a horror-tinged spin on your average Poirot adventure.

Director and star Kenneth Branagh’s Hercule Poirot gets reeled into another whodunnit in A Haunting in Venice. Unlike predecessors Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile, the latest Agatha Christie adaptation trades in larger-scaled extravagance for a more intimate location that fully embraces the Baroque moodiness of its Halloween setting. While A Haunting in Venice might offer Poirot’s least engaging mystery yet, it’s offset by Branagh’s firm commitment to a spooky, claustrophobic atmosphere.
Meticulous detective Hercule Poirot (Branagh) now lives in Venice, enjoying the retired life in 1947, until an old friend, American novelist Ariadne Oliver (Tina Fey), comes calling. Working on her latest book, Ariadne talks Hercule into accompanying her to an All Hallows Eve séance hosted by renowned opera singer Rowena Drake (Kelly Reilly). Like Agatha Christie herself, Kenneth Branagh found a reliable formula for mysteries. In his two previous adaptations of Christie novels, he directed and played the cerebral detective Hercule Poirot amid a star-filled cast, in an exotic location with at least one killer on the loose. Murder on the Orient Express (2017), with Michelle Pfeiffer and Johnny Depp, had an enjoyably retro, over-the-top style. Death on the Nile (2022) was a bit less starry and diverting.
Now, A Haunting in Venice sets a definite pattern of diminishing returns. The new film is much pokier in its pacing, with duller characters. Despite some highlights, including Branagh in top form as an even more somber than usual Poirot, the film is watchable but it is also something lethal to a mystery: uninvolving.
The story takes place in 1947 and is very loosely based on a lesser-known, late-career Christie novel, Hallowe’en Party (1969), altering the plot, changing...

Sometimes, you take what you can get at the movies. For example, it is a low bar to clear that the latest entry in the Hercule Poirot Cinematic Universe, "A Haunting in Venice," is an improvement over its predecessor. The 2022 film "Death on the Nile" was turgid, poorly acted, and boasted some of the worst CGI backdrops in big-studio history. So the fact that its immediate follow-up is brisker, offers less painful acting, and very few CGI backdrops is somewhat cold comfort. The stylish first film in the Kenneth Branagh-directed franchise, 2017's "Murder on the Orient Express," seems an awfully long time ago, and whatever sharpness was present has long since evaporated. There are some mild charms and entertainments in "A Haunting in Venice," which tries very, very hard to be spooky and creepy but is saddled with baffling if unsurprising directorial choices and some distracting performances.

If there’s a prime example of a franchise getting better with every movie, Kenneth Branagh’s Agatha Christie universe is a prime example. Starting in 2017 with the generic “Murder on the Orient Express,” it’s sequel, the 2022 feature “Death on the Nile” was rollicking fun if only for how horny it was in its themes and presentation. But, surprisingly, Branagh followed that up with a dark and somber haunted house story, “A Haunting in Venice” that, if anything, showcases both his impassioned love for Christie’s work and ability to tell a truly spooky film.
Acclaimed detective Hercule Poirot (Branagh) is in a bit of a slump. It’s 1947 and Poirot spends his days avoiding mysteries and eating cake. But things change when his old friend Ariadne Oliver (Tina Fey) comes calling, asking Poirot to witness a seance led by psychic medium Joyce Reynolds (Michelle Yeoh). Reynolds hopes to...

Kenneth Branagh’s A Haunting in Venice is set over one night in 1947. World War II has mercifully ended, but peace on the streets of Venice is being interrupted by another kind of invasion: Halloween trick-or-treaters. As the mystery novelist Ariadne Oliver (Tina Fey) cheekily suggests to her friend, the famed, mustachioed Belgian detective Hercule Poirot (Branagh), the Americans may have left, but their holiday traditions stayed behind.
Halloween wasn’t invented by the Americans. Nor was the tradition of playing dress-up, or telling scary stories in the dark. And that misleading narrative says something about Ariadne’s predilection for spinning a yarn as much as it does the film’s penchant for easy shortcuts and weak suppositions. At its best, A Haunting in Venice, the third of Branagh’s Agatha Christie adaptations, seductively draws us in with evocative, highly textured period details, but at its worst, it’s frequently...

September means different things for different people. It’s the fall, so for some, it means going back to school. But for movie buffs, it’s also the start of the film festivals that often introduce some of the bigger contenders of the season. Has any franchise except maybe Dune had as much bad luck with release dates as Kenneth Branagh‘s Hercule Poirot movies? While Murder on the Orient Express was a solid hit back in 2017, the follow-up, Death on the Nile, found itself at the centre of Covid-19 released delays and the fact that its star, Armie Hammer, found himself cancelled after a bunch of lurid claims. A Haunting in Venice was supposed to be another star-studded blockbuster. Still, given the current SAG-AFTRA strike, it seems doomed to open to little fanfare, even if, like its predecessor, it’s actually a decent movie.
Nevertheless, 20th Century Studios is doing its best to market the latest horror-tinged Agatha Christie adaptation, released a new featurette and some stylish character posters revealing the star-studded cast, which included newly minted Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh, Tina Fey, Kelly Reilly, Branagh as Poirot, and two of his stars from Belfast,...
