With just one month to go before Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion, Disney+ has released a new promo for the superhero series. Except there’s hardly a superhero in sight. Supervillains, sure, but the only Avenger we see in the new “Fight” promo is James Rhodes (Don Cheadle), and he’s not even in his War Machine armor. As the teaser starts, former S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) tells Rhodes an invasion has arrived on Earth, referring to the shapeshifting Skrulls we’ve seen in Captain Marvel and WandaVision. “And we can’t even tell who the invaders are,” Fury adds. Case in point: When Skrull leader Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), an ally of Fury, grabs the Skrull rebel Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir) by the collar in an art gallery, he realizes that all the bystanders are actually Gravik copies in disguise. You’d think the...

The South Asian diaspora has been up for a treat recently with all the love for South Asian representation in shows like Mindy Kaling’s Never Have I Ever or Ms. Marvel Recently, Shekhar Kapoor’s What’s Love Got To Do With It? was also a Pakistani-English film, and Polite Society joins this list of brown meets world. At first impression, Polite Society looks like today’s version of Bend It Like Beckham, but it’s entirely different save for the cultural similarities and English slang. Polite Society is primarily a film about sisters, and then everything else follows. As a close sister myself, I found myself really enjoying this fantasy take on a story about what a younger sibling goes through when her sister leaves her home.

A new teaser for Marvel Studios’ “Secret Invasion” is asking viewers who they trust.
As greyscale surveillance footage captures crowds of people walking, several Marvel characters flash across the screen.
The 20-second teaser sends a cryptic message that even “the ones closest to us,” the ones “we’ve trusted our whole lives,” can be Skrulls, the fictional race of extraterrestrial shapeshifters that appear in the MCU.
With that being said, the eerie teaser proposes the question, “is there really anyone we can trust?,” at least for returning Marvel characters Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders).

When James Gunn’s third and final adventure with Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, and the rest of the gang hit cinemas last weekend, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 opened to a respectable if unspectacular $118.4 million across three days in the U.S. This was a healthy number, but one noticeably down from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which opened at $146.5 million in 2017. Hence early concern within the industry (and among ourselves) about what this could mean for Marvel and the superhero genre as a whole.
Opening weekends dropping by nearly 20 percent between installments is never something that growth-obsessed boardrooms and shareholders want to see. And, indeed, that drop still seems to suggest there is some kind of minor exhaustion with the superhero genre, which has had a very rough past nine months: DC’s Black Adam in October and March’s Shazam! The character of Nick Fury has become somewhat synonymous with its actor, the one and only Samuel L. Jackson. At this point, he's probably one of the few Marvel actors the brand simply cannot live without, as the canon seems to only allow for Jackson's portrayal of the S.H.I.E.L.D. boss. We've had several different Peter Parkers and a couple of Matt Murdocks, for example, but there is truly only one Nick Fury.
According to Jackson — who has recounted this story a few times over the years and as early as 2012 — he only came into the role after someone used his likeness for a comic without his permission. He happened to stumble upon the redesign of Fury in a comic store in a copy of Mark Millar and artist Bryan Hitch's 2002 series "The Ultimates."

In a post-credits stinger at the tail end of Jon Favreau's 2008 film "Iron Man," the title hero returned home from a gala event to find Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) standing in his living room. He mentions that he would like Iron Man to join in something he calls the Avengers Initiative. Favreau has said in interviews that this moment was little more than a cute wink to fans of Marvel Comics and was by no means a declarative statement about future sequels. Favreau, as history played out, was eventually forced to make good on Nick Fury's promise, and, as of this writing, there have been 32 feature films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Avengers are, to offer a description, a freelance military force with access to untold wealth and weapons. They work for no nations and report to no one, although their leader wears an American flag and calls himself Captain America.

Despite being part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for well over a decade, Samuel L. Jackson and Don Cheadle have never actually shared the screen together. That will all change with Secret Invasion, the upcoming Marvel series which features both Don Cheadle and Samuel L. Jackson.
Samuel L. Jackson reprises his role of Nick Fury as he investigates a conspiracy involving the Skrulls, a species of shape-shifting aliens first introduced in Captain Marvel. Fury will cross paths with James “Rhodey” Rhodes (Don Cheadle) during the investigation. Don Cheadle told Entertainment Weekly that the moment was a long-time coming. “Day one, we sat down and were like, ‘This should have happened a long time ago, but it’s great that it’s happening now,’” Cheadle said. “Sam’s a good friend, and I’ve known him a long time. It was cool to be able to sit across from him and go back and forth.

He’s been lurking in the shadows of the Marvel Cinematic Universe_, to whom he promised refuge and a new home – something which, thirty years later, he still hasn’t delivered.
Secret Invasion is a different kind of mission, and that means a different kind of Nick Fury. His signature costume of an eye patch, goatee and long, black leather coat are being peeled away, as shown in the exclusive new image above, and the Fury we find underneath is altogether more fragile than we’ve ever seen him before. “All those things are part of a Nick Fury that’s invulnerable,” Jackson tells Empire for our new world-exclusive issue on the Marvel thriller series. “Here you have a guy who’s showing his face, and showing his age. After an unimpressive start to Phase 5 with the third installment of the “Ant-Man” franchise, the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems to be in dire need of a course correction, and what better than an alien espionage thriller to resume their comparatively successful small-screen journey duly presented by the trailer of the upcoming series “Secret Invasion”? The first MCU TV series of phase five, “Secret Invasion,” has the potential to be a game changer, as it offers a much more grounded, political take on some key aspects of MCU lore, something from which the franchise notably benefited during the “Captain America” movies. In order to understand all the hints and Easter eggs that were presented in the trailer, we will briefly go through it once and try to break it down based on our observations.

Though it was only published 15 years go (which isn't all that long ago by Marvel Comics standards), "Secret Invasion" is one of the most beloved and impactful events in Marvel's storied history. Now, it's coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and, somewhat amazingly, it's not as a movie. Rather, it's going to be a big event series on Disney+ this summer, giving us something to do between "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" and "The Marvels." A new trailer has dropped, setting up Samuel L. Jackson's return as Nick Fury, letting him take the spotlight arguably for the first time ever.
For those unfamiliar, the story centers on the shapeshifting aliens known as the Skrulls, who we met in "Captain Marvel," planning to invade Earth. They have been replacing people on the planet in anticipation of a takeover, making it difficult for Fury -- or anyone else for that...

Marvel’s Secret Invasion trailer sees Samuel L. Jackson gear up for “one last fight” to save Earth. But where has Nick Fury been, and what has he done, to earn himself the label of the “Most Wanted Man on the Planet”? Upon the trailer’s debut during ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball on April 2, fans flocked to the YouTube comments section to express their excitement over the trailer’s gritty tone, saying it’s reminiscent of Captain America: Winter Soldier, a fan-favorite MCU film. The trailer is imbued with suspense throughout, establishing the high-level threat of the Skrull invasion of Earth, the reach of the invasion, and the sides on which each of the Marvel characters (both old and new) will fight. “Since you’ve been gone, things have gotten much worse,” Ben Mendelsohn‘s Talos tells Fury, who has just returned from a long stint in space, in the opening moments.
