Exclusive: A pair of YA drama series are coming to an end at Peacock.
The NBCU streamer has cancelled One Of Us Is Lying and Vampire Academy.
One Of Us Is Lying ran for two seasons, while Vampire Academy, which comes from Julie Plec, has ended after one.
Deadline understands that execs at Peacock were happy with both shows creatively but they just didn’t find the requisite audience to justify further seasons.
One Of Us Is Lying, which is based on Karen M. McManus’ novel, launched in October 2021 and was the first Peacock pilot to go to series. It was renewed for a second season earlier this year that aired in October 2022.
Vampire Academy was handed a straight-to-series order in May 2021 and premiered in September 2022.

The two-minute season two trailer reveals the Murder Club members will be tormented by “Simon Says” and forced into doing his/her bidding or else their involvement in Jake’s “disappearance” will be exposed. The trailer suggests the club should keep their friends close, but their secrets even closer.

One of Us Is Lying finally has a premiere date.
The highly-anticipated teen drama launches Thursday, October 7, on Peacock.
The 8-episode season will roll out over the course of three weeks, with new episodes dropping in batches on Thursdays.
As a result, the rollout plan is as follows:
Episodes 1-3 will drop Thursday, October 7
Episodes 4-6 on Thursday, October 14
Episodes 7-8 on Thursday, October 21
It's a different way to do things, and HBO Max successfully shared some of its shows that way.
Netflix has been trialing it on reality series, but it seems to be doing well among people who watch scripted shows.
Based on Karen M. McManus's #1 New York Times best-selling novel, One Of Us Is Lying is the story of what happens when five high schoolers walk into detention, and only four make it out alive.

One of Us Is Lying is poised to be the next hit teen drama.
Based on Karen M. McManus’s New York Times best-selling novel, the series is the story of what happens when five high schoolers walk into detention, and only four make it out alive.
Everyone is a suspect, and everyone has something to hide.
It's a convincing hook, right?
It sounds like The Breakfast Club meets Elite, and the new teaser seems to back that up.
And, if you're tired of waiting week-to-week for answers, you'll be happy to know that Peacock releases all episodes at once.
That means you can get your binge on and dig into one of the most promising shows of the year when it launches.
The streamer is not revealing when the show will launch, beyond a "coming soon," but it should be within the next few months.

She previously directed an episode of the HBO series “Euphoria” as well as the feature film “Sun Dogs” and the short film “Warning Labels.” She is primarily known for her acting work, having starred in shows like “House” and “Once Upon a Time.” She will also appear in the fourth season of “This Is Us,” which debuted on NBC on Tuesday.

NBCUniversal revealed a lot of details regarding their new streaming service, which is called Peacock, which is obviously a nod to NBC’s iconic logo.
The company also unveiled its initial programming slate. We already reported on the reboot of Battlestar Galactica from Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail, as well as Saved By the Bell with Mario Lopez, Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Elizabeth Berkley set to star; and Punky Brewster, with Soleil Moon Frye set to reprise her role as the title character.
There are a lot of other original shows coming to Peacock, though, along with catalogue series and library films. There will also be original films that will be created by Universal Pictures, Focus Features, and DreamWorks Animation.
Peacock will launch in April of 2020. It will be both advertising and subscription supported streaming service. Details on pricing and distribution will be announced as it gets closer to launch.

Lionsgate is jumping back into the low budget horror (and comedy) game. The House of Saw has brought in John Sacchi to head a new division dedicated to horror and comedy projects in the $2.5 million range.
The new division will aim to mirror the success of Blumhouse Productions, with their films like Insidious and Paranormal Activity raking it in despite low budgets. We shall see how successful the studio is, but it’s exciting news for horror fans nonetheless. It will most likely add to the number of horror crap we see every year, but also increases the possibility for horror gems to fall through the cracks.

Lionsgate is bringing in production executive John Sacchi to head a micro-budget feature film division within the company. The operation will aim for horror and comedy pictures under $2.5 million, and is inspired by the successful Paramount Insurge, which was created in the wake of the "Paranormal Activity" franchise, and last year produced "The Devil Inside," a $1 million-budgeted film that made over $100 million worldwide. The home of the "Saw" franchise, Lionsgate has long put its attention into small-budget films. It was only in 2012 that it shook free the label of a "minimajor," with the purchase of Summit, and the boffo releases of both "The Hunger Games" and the final "Twilight" installment. Sacchi has supervised and executive produced many of the company's projects, including "My Bloody Valentine," "Punisher: War Zone" and "The Possession."...

Lionsgate, of course, also has quite a bit of experience working with microbudgeted projects as their Saw franchise, in 2010, was award the Guinness Book of World Records title for "Most Successful Horror Movie Series."...

Lionsgate is a company that, like many before it, built itself on the horror genre. Now that the company has grown exponentially, they've decided to take a bit of a look back at their results and as a result are building out a new low-budget genre arm.
According to Variety, Lionsgate has signaled strong support for its micro-budget feature division with longtime production executive John Sacchi tapped to head the operation. The studio is aiming to replicate the success of Paramount Insurge, formed in the wake of the outsize success of producer Jason Blum's Paramormal Activity. Insurge's The Devil Inside grossed more than $100 million worldwide last year at a cost of only $1 million.
Sacchi has a long track record in supervising Lionsgate films with exec producer credits on My Bloody Valentine, Punisher: War Zone and The Possession, which grossed nearly $80 million last year. The micro-budget arm is understood to...

Lionsgate has pre-emptively picked up the action thriller spec "Last Stand" from writer Andrew Knauer. Lorenzo Di Bonaventura is producing.
The story, described as having shades of "Gone in 60 Seconds" and "High Noon," features a Gumpert Apollo, a race car used by drug smugglers, and it centers on a cartel leader that uses it to break out of a courthouse. As he speeds to the Mexican border, the only thing standing in his way is a border-town sheriff and his inexperienced staff.
Mike Paseornek, John Sacchi and Hernany Perla are overseeing for Lionsgate. Erik Howsam and Ed Fee are shepherding for Di Bonaventura Pictures.
Di Bonaventura is in preproduction on Summit's comic book adaptation "Red," starring Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman, which is prepping for a winter start.
Knauer is a former assistant at Media Talent Group and before that interned at Lionsgate. In a move that is sure...

A year and a half after leaving Paramount, Alli Shearmur has landed at Lionsgate as president of motion picture production alongside longtime Lionsgate production head Mike Paseornek.
Shearmur and Paseornek, who will each carry the same title, will report to co-coo and motion picture group president Joe Drake. Shearmur's lock on the position has been in the air for some time, and she officially starts Tuesday.
"I'm very excited to be part of a team again," Shearmur said. "I'm most looking forward to being at a place that has a real sense of momentum and an agile, savvy approach to making movies. They seem to be very creative, out-of-the-box thinkers."
While Paseornek has helped to build the mini-major into an increasingly ambitious studio, he and Shearmur will now essentially run two separate production divisions, with each turning out six to eight films per year. The studio claims that these slates will remain somewhat undefined,...

Lisa Ellzey has been appointed executive vp motion picture production at Lionsgate as the company continues to beef up its production department.
Ellzey most recently was executive vp production at 20th Century Fox, which she joined in fall 2005. Before Fox, she was president of Scott Free Entertainment, president of Sonnenfeld/Josephson and a vp at Doug Wick's Red Wagon.
At Lionsgate, Ellzey will report to Mike Paseornek, Lionsgate's president of motion picture production. John Sacchi, senior vp motion picture production, will continue to report to Paseornek.
"Lisa is precisely the person we need on our team as we broaden the scope of our motion picture offerings," Paseornek said. "Her talent and fantastic network of creative relationships will give us access to major opportunities as we take Lionsgate to the next level and beyond."
Ellzey arrives at a time when Joe Drake -- named Coo of Lionsgate's motion picture group last fall after its acquisition of Mandate Pictures -- is putting his mark on the company by expanding its production unit, though per the studio's business model, it still expects to make 18-20 films per year.
Meanwhile, Alli Shearmur, the former co-president of production at Paramount, is in discussions to join Lionsgate.
This year, Jim Miller joined the team as vp production. Wolfgang Hammer, a director at Media Rights Capital, is a name that has been floated as another possible addition to the department.
Lionsgate's agenda includes working to offer its content on multiple platforms like FearNet, the video-on-demand and Internet horror channel. In 2009, Lionsgate plans to launch a new premium television service with Viacom, Paramount Pictures and MGM.
At Fox, Ellzey served as executive producer of "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford." Her credits at Scott Free include producing "In Her Shoes" and executive producing "Kingdom of Heaven." She co-exec produced HBO's "The Gathering Storm."
Lionsgate's Jason Constantine was promoted to president of acquisitions and co-productions last week.

Lionsgate has picked up "Pencilneck", a comic book adaptation for Benderspink's Chris Bender and JC Spink to produce.
Created by Victor Carungi and published by his own Paper Street Comics, the crime thriller centers on a mild-mannered banker who, in order to save his criminal brother, is forced by the mob to help them rob his employer. When the heist goes awry and the banker is taken hostage, he snaps. With nothing to lose, the banker goes on a rampage, taking down anyone in his path in order to rescue his brother.
Production coordinator Josh Feldman brought it into Benderspink, which developed the project. John Sacchi is overseeing for Lionsgate.
The post-WGA strike period has been especially fruitful for Benderspink, which produces as well as reps writers. In the 11 weeks since the strike ended, the company has set up or helped sell 10 projects, including "Leap Year" at Spyglass, "Shell Game" at Columbia and "Emme" at Screen Gems.
