“The legendary risotto curse struck again!” says Kristen Kish at the start of this week’s “Top Chef: The Dish with Kish” after show. In this week’s episode of the cooking competition, titled “Sausage Race,” French cheftestant Kevin D’Andrea undertook the rice dish that has crushed the hopes of competitors in the past. Though it wasn’t a bad risotto in and of itself, it lacked the necessary sausage flavor it needed to fulfill the challenge, so he was eliminated. But it’s a dish you can make in 30 minutes to an hour, so why is it so hard to get it right on the show? And how do you make it properly? Kristen explored the dreaded dish with All-Star Amar Santana. Watch the episode above.

Actress Parineeti Chopra, who is awaiting the release of her film ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’, has said that though she hails from Punjab and can speak good Punjabi, she felt like a student in front of Diljit Dosanjh, her co-actor in the film.
The Imitiaz Ali directorial film sees him joining forces with his frequent collaborators, including lyricist Irshad Kamil, composer A R Rahman, and playback singer Mohit Chauhan.
All of them attended the ‘Next on Netflix’ event at the Mehboob Studio in Mumbai on Thursday.
Parineeti told event host Zakir Khan, “Even though I’m a Punjabi and can speak decent Punjabi having been born in Ambala, I felt like a student in front of Diljit. It’s a treat to listen to him speak and sing in Punjabi. He brings out those small nuances and you can really assess the scope of improvement in your dialogue delivery or singing in Punjabi.

Actor Amar Upadhyay, who is playing the role of Ganga Prasad in ‘Doree’, has praised his onscreen daughter, and hailed her as a one-take star. ‘Doree’ has captured the attention of the viewers as it tells the tale of a six-year-old Doree standing up against a patriarchal society.
The thought-provoking drama stars Sudhaa Chandran as Kailashi Devi, who runs the handloom empire in Varanasi, and Amar as Ganga Prasad, who’s a foster father to Doree played by child actor Mahi Bhanushali.
Amar said: “I’m grateful for the love that has come for our show Doree. A lion’s share of the credit for the appreciation goes to the adorable Mahi Bhanushali. She inspires us all onscreen and offscreen. Her talent for learning her lines and delivering them impeccably at this age impresses me. She is a one-take star and a thorough professional.”

Feminist theory, personal experience and enticingly intricate animation come together in Isabel Herguera’s feature debut. Inspired by the 1905 feminist fable by Rokeya Hossain, which imagines the utopian country of Ladyland, where women hold sway and men stay at home, Herguera weaves together an immersive imagining of Hussains’ work with the story of a young Spanish protagonist, Inés (voice by Miren Arrieta), and Hussain herself.
Herguera has - perhaps as a result of its more than 10 years in the making - packed in so many ideas, the end result is sprawling in terms of its themes but never less than mesmerising to look at. Animator Inés stumbles on Hossain’s book on a trip to India to visit and split up with Amar (Manu Khurana). What follows is a journey of discovery that will take us not just to India but also Spain and Italy and which will offer up.

This intense short by Michael Jobling is one of those films which is likely to be received very differently by different audiences. It focuses on the 24 mile trip, on foot, which Amar (Adeel Akhtar) has to make every Wednesday in order to attend his Job Centre appointments and avoid being sanctioned. People who have never had to use such services often struggle to believe that such scenarios are real. Those who have used them know that such things go on all the time.
There’s a lot here that goes unspoken. The struggle to afford food, rent and bills on what the government provides. The prohibitive cost of bus fares and shortage of useful bus routes. The deep fear of being left destitute as a result of missing an appointment or being late, and the frustration which comes from having a whole day wasted which one might otherwise be using to.

It’s always hard to pinpoint what it is the short films of London Film Festival share because, as we’ve witnessed time and time again, the selection is always so eclectic. Short films of such varying budgets, genres and tones sit side by side with one another, a refreshing change to see at such a prestigious film festival. It puts precedence on an ideas-led cinema as opposed to one led by technical innovations and the flashiest kit. That’s not to say the shorts at Lff don’t look good or have great production value, because they do, but it’s more about what this says to up-and-coming filmmakers who don’t have massive resources behind them. It tells you that all you need is to be clever with what you have around you and you can have a film playing at the UK’s biggest film festival. With that in mind,...

‘Top Chef’ 20 episode 8 recap: ‘Street Food Fight’ led to a ‘Fast and Furious’ Elimination Challenge
“When I make a bad dish, I know that it’s bad,” says Victoire, lamenting her disappointing cassava cannoli from “Top Chef: World All Stars” episode seven, “Hands Off.” Luckily for her it wasn’t the worst dish of the challenge. That was Dale MacKay‘s, so he was eliminated just one episode after returning to the competition from “Last Chance Kitchen.” So what happened in episode eight, “Street Food Fight,” when the competition suddenly got a lot more demanding — and a lot faster?
The nine remaining competitors playing for the $250,000 grand prize are Ali Al Ghzawi (Middle East and North Africa), Sara Bradley (Kentucky), Charbel Hayek (Middle East and North Africa), Victoire Gouloubi (Italy), Buddha Lo (Houston), Tom Goetter (Germany), Gabriel Rodriguez (Mexico), Amar Santana (California), and Nicole Gomes (Canada).
