"Lure people out of the villages into its cave with his white face and red nose..." The Weinstein Company has debuted a trailer for the horror film Clown, which is directed by Jon Watts, the filmmaker now set to direct the next Spider-Man movie. It's actually based on a fake trailer that Watts originally made in 2012 that included fake credits for producer Eli Roth. Roth actually saw the trailer, got involved, and helped them make a feature version and this is the final product. The concept is about a clown suit that a father finds that when he puts it on turns him into an evil child-eating clown, which reminds me a bit of Santa Clause or The Mask (though this is much, much more sinister). The cast includes Andy Powers, Laura Allen, Peter Stormare, Christian Distefano, Chuck Shamata, and Elizabeth Whitmere. See both trailers below. Here's the official release...

There’s been a lot of hype surrounding Clown, no doubt because purveyor of gore and grue, Eli Roth (Hostel), has his name attached to the film. So forgive me if I came away from the movie feeling a little under-whelmed. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed what I saw but I couldn’t help but feel it needed something more… After all, when you break the story down, it’s not much more than a Tales From the Crypt/Tales From the Darkside-style morality play; and those two TV shows told their stories in less than thirty minutes.

I haven't seen an effective killer clown movie since the 1990 TV miniseries based on Stephen King's It and now it looks like we'll finally get a worthy killer clown follow-up.
In 2010, a group of talented artists put together a pretty great looking trailer for a fake movie directed by the very real Eli Roth titled Clown. Somewhere along the line Roth saw the trailer, was impressed by it and approached the filmmakers to make the movie for real with Roth as producer. Eli Roth may be busy directing The Green Inferno, but that doesn’t mean he’s too busy to continue his role as horror-producer extraordinaire. The project he’s currently working on is Jon Watts’ Clown, which Empire reports has found two new cast members in Peter Stormare and Laura Allen.
Watts co-wrote the script with CD Ford and will also be directing, check out a synopsis below.

Powers joins the previously announced Christian Distefano, Elizabeth Whitmere, and Matthew Stefiuk.
Jon Watts is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Christopher D. Ford. It became an Internet “thing” when a spoof trailer circulated back in 2011. In the film “a loving father dons a clown outfit, wig, bulbous nose, and pancake makeup to entertain at his son, Jack’s (Distefano), sixth birthday after the clown-for-hire is a no-show. Unable to take off the clown garb, dad’s personality changes in horrific fashion. He and his family race to break the curse of the evil outfit before he undergoes a complete transformation into a homicidal killer with over-sized shoes.

In October 2010, a mock trailer for Clown was released by Jon Watts and Christopher D. Ford, which featured Eli Roth’s name, even though he was unaware of the trailer’s existence. Eventually, this got the attention of Eli Roth and he ended coming on board as a producer to give these guys the opportunity to make a full feature out of their concept.
After not hearing much about Clown this year, it’s been revealed movie is filming right now in Ottawa and we have some casting news to share. According to The Welland Tribune, Seven year old Christian Distefano will be playing Jack, “the son of a man who tries on a clown suit for a birthday party and becomes possessed by the spirit which inhabits it.” Elizabeth Whitmere and Matthew Stefiuk have been cast as the parents, and Bloody Disgusting reports that Andy Powers (Oz) will appear in the movie as well.
