The third installment based on Konami’s horror survival game, Silent Hill, is expected to release this year. The preview of Return to Silent Hill screened at the Cannes Film Festival and the new Christophe Gans-directed film will be adapted from the game Silent Hill 2. The preview also gave a first look into the villain of the film, and fans are excited to see that the terrifying monster Pyramid Head closely resembled its video game version.

The first two films, Silent Hill and Silent Hill: Revelation, were critical failures. However, gamers were completely blown away by the gameplay of Silent Hill 2, which raises the expectations of the current film. The game took inspiration from Fyodor Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment.

As the Silent Hill franchise continues to crawl its way back to resurgence, fans of the series now look forward to how Konami brings the seminal Silent Hill 2 back into the limelight with an upcoming film and a remake. It’s a humongous task, given how much the game means to the fan base.
Now, with the first look at Silent Hill 2’s adaptation, Return to Silent Hill, reactions range from being positive about the franchise’s future to outright skepticism.
Silent Hill 2’s Film Adaptation Suggests the Film Is Either Going to Be a Masterpiece or a Failure If there could be an award for the most devoted fan base, Silent Hill 2 would arguably win it.

Silent Hill 2 is one of the most popular horror titles out there, and since Konami surprised the fans with the remake of the title, fans have been excited about it. The game is in development at Bloober Team and is said to be a faithful recreation of the original title that was released back in 2001.
However, Konami has not given any further details on it, and there is no release date as of now. Despite the lack of official detail, fans have come across a change with the protagonist that makes it seem like there is more work left to be done than anticipated, and they are not happy.

The Esrb recently gave developer Bloober Team’s upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake an “M” Rating. That rating isn’t particularly surprising, nor are many of the specific pieces of in-game content the Esrb cited when explaining their rating. For instance, the governing body noted that Silent Hill 2 contains “realistic gunfire, cries of pain, and blood-splatter effects” as well as “enemies with body parts sewn together.” In other words, standard Silent Hill 2 stuff.
However, there is one part of the Esrb’s rating that certainly stands out. According to that organization, the Silent Hill 2 remake also features “characters pole-dancing in strip-club settings.”
What makes that warning so strange isn’t the idea that Silent Hill 2 features sexualized content. The base game had plenty of sexualized (often disturbingly sexualized) content, and the Esrb rating references some of that legacy material. No, what’s strange about that particular...

Konami’s Silent Hill 2 was first announced back in October 2022 when the game was said to be under development by Bloober Team. There have been leaks and rumors ever since about the release of the highly anticipated remake but nothing official has surfaced. A fan has now spotted a giant poster put up at Gamestop and now fans are hopeful for an imminent announcement soon.
There have been reports of placeholder empty cases of the game in several stores but this was the first time a giant poster was put up. Some fans are still apprehensive about it and believe it to be a marketing tactic to get more pre-orders in.

For more than two decades, Silent Hill 2 has been considered one of the scariest games of all time. The game was first released for PlayStation 2, then Xbox and PC, and in 2012, a remastered version was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game’s psychological horror story often makes it hard for one to play it alone and in order to tackle this problem, a gamer has been looking for a companion.

In a Facebook Marketplace ad, a gamer posted an ad looking for someone who will sit with him while he plays Silent Hill 2. The ad was posted on the r/playstation subreddit and fans agree that the game is so scary that looking for a companion for it is completely valid.

After a couple of delays, Thq’s belated remake of Alone in the Dark is almost upon us and we couldn’t be more hyped. After all, the title is poised to breathe fresh life into what was once recognized as the granddaddy of survival horror (even though it predates that label by a good few years).
You see, despite its far-reaching influence — which can be felt in everything from classic Resident Evil to mainline Silent Hill entries— this IP has been languishing since the turn of the millennium. Owing to a string of increasingly dodgy sequels, very few gamers under the age of thirty are likely to hold the series in high esteem, while its protagonist, Edward Carnby, is hardly as iconic as his nearest counterparts in Leon S. Blooper Team showcased the first trailer for their upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake during last night’s State of Play. It’s the first sign of life for the game since it was announced in 2022 and since the developers confirmed no major changes were being made to the narrative in early 2023.
Take a look at the Silent Hill 2 trailer below.
Disappointingly, there’s no release date attached to the trailer. Sony did previously promise that the game would arrive in 2024, but that remains to be seen.
The game will follow in the footsteps of the 2001 original. You will play as James Sunderland, who travels to Silent Hill, looking for his deceased wife Mary after receiving a letter that she is alive.

The Top 10 Most Anticipated Horror Films of 2024 article and video were written by Mike Holtz.
We happen to be lucky enough to live in a timeline where horror is unquestionably crushing at the box office and otherwise. People are lining up in droves not only to see men in tights throwing down to save the universe in superhero flicks but to see monsters and ghouls doing horrible and heinous things to human beings. And no, I’m not talking about congress. I’m talking about some good old-fashioned wear your brown pants to the theater and leave the kids at home (or don’t I don’t judge) , horror flicks. I can’t promise you everything is going to be okay in 2024. Not with Ezra Miller roaming the streets, but I can promise you this… we’ve got a lot of great horror flicks headed our way. Probably. Well, they sound cool.

“Return to Silent Hill” is the new psychological horror film directed by Christophe Gans, starring Jeremy Irvine and Hannah Emily Anderson, releasing in theaters in 2024:
“…driven by the shadows of his past, ‘James Sunderland’ returns to ‘Silent Hill’ to find his lost love, ‘Mary Crane’. But the dark, depressing small town is no longer the place from his memories. He meets characters who seem all too familiar and who try to divert him from his search for Mary.
‘The longer he searches for Mary, the more he begins to wonder if this is still reality - or if he has fallen into the dark underworld of ‘Jacob Crane’…”

No further information has been released as of this time. Our original story has been left unchanged as a reference for this new information.
Recently, the team behind Silent Hill: Ascension (an interactive series based on the Silent Hill franchise) had to shut down the chat feature that was supposed to be an essential part of the entire interactive experience. Why? Well, it turns out that the chat function was being overworked/abused by fans who kept spamming often lurid requests regarding, among other things, the sexual acts they would like Pyramid Head to perform on them.
It was an entirely predictable outcome for a project that seemed to be a terrible idea from the start. Remarkably, though, that arguably isn’t...

Back when Konami finally announced the Silent Hill 2 remake, they had also announced that we’d be getting a whack of new Silent Hill merchandise. It just so happens that Sweet Factory has revealed a new Gecco 1/6 scale statue of Silent Hill 2 protagonist James Sunderland that’s available for pre-order right now.
Sculpted by Shinya Yamaoka and standing approximately 31cm (just over 12 inches), James comes on a polystone base that “recreates the subtle details of the dead-end of the town”, with Health Drinks at his feet. He also has several accessory options for his right hand. You can either choose to have him brandishing a pistol, a plank, a steel pipe, a shotgun, or the Great Knife.
James can also be displayed alongside the 1/6 scale statue of Maria (which is coming soon) from the same statue series to recreate the scene from Silent Hill 2 where they meet...

It's about time for "Silent Hill" to make a comeback. The popular horror video game franchise is not only getting several new entries but also another film adaptation. "Return to Silent Hill" will become the third movie in the series, though it sounds as if director Christopher Gans is making more of a reboot than a proper sequel. The film will serve to accompany the upcoming video game titles in a massive wave of "Silent Hill" projects that publisher Konami announced last October.
The series revolves around the titular town of Silent Hill (located in Maine in the games and West Virginia in the movies), a place imbued with an ancient and terrible power that manifests its visitors' inner fears, traumas, and guilt in the form of misshapen creatures. Each entry follows a different character and their hellish adventures into Silent Hill, where they have to contend with the Order,...

IGN sat down with Silent Hill series producer Motoi Okamoto, as well as Silent Hill 2 concept artist Masahiro Ito and composer Akira Yamaoka to discuss the project, including the decision to go with Bloober Team as developer.

When "Silent Hill 2" was released in 2001, the game changed the landscape of the survival horror genre in unprecedented ways. The second installment in the "Silent Hill" video game series accentuated the nightmarish terror of the original, transporting players into a liminal space where the most grotesque fears came alive. Among the many monsters that lurk around the shapeshifting town of Silent Hill is Pyramid Head, a faceless, hulking humanoid who still scares the bejesus out of players when revealed. Over the years, Pyramid Head achieved iconic status as a video game antagonist and began to represent the franchise as a whole. Although Pyramid Head was exclusively designed by Masahiro Ito to represent James Sunderland's repressed guilt in the second game, the growing popularity of the monster gradually distanced it from its original purpose.

Konami’s Silent Hill livestream showcase event may have been surprisingly short, frustratingly vague, and (for some reason) released way too early, but it hasn’t taken long for fans to share their passionate reactions to the reveals we did get. After all, people have been waiting a long time for something (anything) related to Silent Hill that wasn’t just Dlc of varying quality (or slot machines). You’d better believe that people were waiting with their most emotional hot takes ready to go.
So far as that goes, the Silent Hill fan community has not disappointed. Indeed, a lot of the early chatter about the Silent Hill reveal event was focused on the fact that many people were thrilled to have an excuse to talk about anything related to Silent Hill again.

“Return to Silent Hill,” a horror film based on the classic Konami survival/horror video game series, is in development. The news was announced at the end of a livestream dedicated to announcing new titles in the franchise.

After a 15-year wait, director Christophe Gans is returning to the world of "Silent Hill" with his new film rightfully titled "Return to Silent Hill." Gans has been teasing the promise of a new "Silent Hill" movie for months, but the previously reported reboot was declared during Konami's special presentation today to be "the catalyst for the revival of new 'Silent Hill' games." As IP and cross-media development director Rui Naito tells it, Victor Hadida, one of the producers for the original 2006 film, approached the company about a possible new film. The pitch was apparently good enough to not only get Gans back on board, but also inspire the company to return to the "Silent Hill" game series and make new installments. So since then, together with [game designer Yoshiki] Okamoto, we have been on the road to revive the games," said Naito. "Silent Hill" is considered one of the...

Dare to speak the name of the scariest horror game character you know about. Odds are that you just whispered the name of Silent Hill‘s most famous monster, “Pyramid Head.”
It’s always been a little odd that Pyramid Head became not just a legendary figure in horror gaming but the face of the Silent Hill franchise. After all, Pyramid Head (sometimes also called the “Red Pyramid Thing”) premiered in the second Silent Hill game and was supposed to be a one-off monster. Instead, he ended up arguably becoming more famous than the franchise he initially appeared in.
Of course, with that fame comes the inevitable question of “Why and how?” Why and how did Pyramid Head become more popular than the rest of Silent Hill’s cast combined? What makes him so special? The only Silent Hill monster who has achieved anywhere as much popularity was P.T.

No doubt returning from their latest session of scouring the survival horror classic for any undiscovered or missed details, Reddit user ZombiePizzas1999 appears, for all intents and purposes, to have hit the jackpot as far as incredibly well-hidden Easter eggs are concerned. As any follower of the series’ lore will know, 2001’s sequel to the original puts players in the role of James Sunderland, a grieving widower who received a letter from his dead wife directing him to visit the titular town.
In one of the game’s opening cinematics, James can be seen peering into a dimly-lit bathroom mirror, presumably at himself for a hasty self-grooming session before confronting the horrors that await him. That, however, couldn’t be further from the truth. Due to the scene’s dark nature,...

If I had to single out the two biggest and best horror franchises in all of gaming, I’d outright name Resident Evil and Silent Hill. Both captivated gamers for years with their intriguing storylines, incredible gameplay and countless scares. But while Resident Evil continues to thrive, Silent Hill doesn’t look to be making a comeback anytime soon – unless, of course, Konami gets their sh!t together, and not many of us see that happening.
More often than not, the fanbase settles on Silent Hill 2 as being their favorite installment. Personally, it’s a tossup between the second and third games for me, as both boast such great qualities. But for now, let’s continue discussing James Sunderland’s insane quest that’s eternally enthralled us, shall we?

To him who is in fear everything rustles. Fifteen years later, we look back at the haunting story of Silent Hill 2...
This article contains spoilers for Silent Hill 2. But seriously, this game has been out for 15 years!
Ask anybody what they truly fear more than anything else in the world, and one of the most honest replies you will receive is “Answering that question.”
Fear is as intimate to humans as sex. It’s something that everyone feels, but most of us work very hard to disguise when in the presence of unfamiliar faces. Fear invades our minds, bodies, and souls when it strikes. To understand an individual’s fear is to have knowledge of the individual. To understand humanity's fear is to have a great and terrible knowledge of the world.
Video game writer Takayoshi Sato is a man who possesses such knowledge. Is that a bold claim?...

The first Silent Hill game introduced us to a very different version of the survival horror genre we had come to know. Before its release, it was only the jump scares and twitch action of the Resident Evil series that most players were really familiar with. Silent Hill would come to shake up that formula dramatically.
Taking place in a vast, almost open world, and shrouded in a dense fog that was filled with the most brutal nightmare fuel imaginable, Silent Hill created an atmosphere of intense dread, punctuated by a story that was far more psychologically disturbing than conventionally frightening.
With the groundwork laid, and a technological leap in terms of graphics and engines, Silent Hill 2 was primed to make a splash as the first high profile survival horror game of the new console generation. What Konami ended up...

From the Commodore 64 to the modern day, check out 35 of videogaming's best ever soundtracks (and listen to them here...)
Games are often praised for their amazing visuals, deep, complex gameplay and well-written narrative, but music is also a big part of the media. Just as it forms an essential part of any movie's atmosphere, games need the right soundtrack in order to fully immerse the player into the game world. A rousing audio track can stir the emotions, properly relay the heroic nature of a protagonist, or instil fear when needed.
Games soundtracks are, arguably, much more important than other media, as the player is the star, in full control of the action. Whilst music in movies is hugely important, in a game the audio doesn't just accompany the visuals, but has to pair up perfectly with the player's actions and the events onscreen...

You think your Valentine's Day is crappy, keep in mind there are plenty of video game characters out there who have it worse. From creepy, unrequited interspecies love, to a disturbing pile of dead wives and girlfriends, here are some characters who probably wouldn't like a card today.
Bowser, "Super Mario Bros." (1985)
You have to imagine a guy who spends so much of his time kidnapping princesses (or at least the one princess) has some issues when it comes to finding that special someone. Wait, he has kids, right? So somewhere out there must be a special "Mrs. Bowser" (or several). So why the weird connection to the Princess?
How they're celebrating Valentine's day: Probably outside of the Princess's castle, with a pair of binocular and a box of chocolates that will never be delivered.
James Sunderland, "Silent Hill 2" (2001)

I’m strangely protective of Silent Hill. Its use of symbolism and deeper psychological themes struck a chord with me, so much so that seeing developers try and emulate it without understanding it makes me genuinely angry at their products, a set of disingenuous replications without the charred soul of the original trilogy. There is more to Silent Hill than Pyramid Head turning up like the proverbial bad penny.
It was this protectiveness that put me on edge when I first booted up Silent Hill: Book of Memories, the second portable attempt at the series (the first being Silent Hill Origins on the PSP) on the Playstation Vita. Not only had developer Wayforward populated their take on the series with a bestiary of familiar faces (don’t make me get into why I think this is asinine, I’ve covered it already), they even reduced the game to a Diablo-style dungeon crawler.

This article contains admiration of explicit old-fashioned survival horror.
The setting is now a cliché, no? Abandoned mansions, towns cloaked in a dense fog and rural villages under the influence of an abominable cult – we know these settings well and take them for granted in today’s market of ‘over the shoulder horror’ pumped to the eye sockets with sprinting zombies and a Schwarzeneggeresque bias towards action. That is why, as millions tore off the cellophane wrapped packaging of Resident Evil 6 with itchy trigger fingers, I rejected the current crop of action horror and instead blew the dust off my old copy of the Resident Evil REmake, dimmed the lights in my bedroom and returned to the Spencer Mansion, one of the genre’s beautiful clichés.
You may be pausing for thought wondering why I chose to crack open the REmake rather than revisit the original. The answer is simple.

In bringing together Silent Hill 2: Inner Fears and Silent Hill 3 onto the one disc, Konami have served up to PS3 and XBox 360 owners some of the most revered survival horror ever made. But with this re-release, is Silent Hill as scary a place in 2012 as it was ten years ago?
First of all, the story is what really defines these as classics. Silent Hill 2 delivers a truly chilling, off-kilter, David-Lynch style psychological narrative about James Sunderland – a man looking for his wife in the mysterious town of Silent Hill. The town’s antagonists seem to spring from James’ own neuroses, the obstacles he encounters relate to his own past, and the characters he meets have – like him – been drawn to Silent Hill for their own dark reasons.

Konami’s Silent Hill HD Collection was originally planned for a January release and then moved to March 6th. Unfortunately, the release date has shifted once again. While no reason for the delay has been given, the new date is March 20th. This may have been done to distance the game from bigger releases coming out earlier in the month, including Mass Effect 3, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, and their own Silent Hill: Downpour.
