On May 25, 2020, a day that America will certainly remember, a man lost his life in a tragic case of police brutality in Minneapolis. That man’s name was George Floyd. He was suspected of using a counterfeit $20 bill in a store, and when the police came in, they pulled him out of his car and restrained him in a brutal fashion despite the fact that he did not resist nor pose any danger to the officers. Police officer Derek Chauvin held his knee on Floyd’s neck for 9 minutes and 29 seconds, and while Floyd kept pleading that he could not breathe, Chauvin did not move his knee even as the medical technicians arrived and even after Floyd stopped moving altogether. It was later determined that Chauvin, indeed, killed him, and he was sentenced to 22 and a half years in prison. The other officers involved were also convicted.

Federal Correctional Institution (Fci) Tucson inmate John Turscak was charged with allegedly stabbing former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin 22 times on November 24.
Turscak is now being charged with attempted murder, assault with a dangerous weapon and intent to murder. The United States Attorney’s Office in Tucson, Arizona, is handling the prosecution.
Chauvin was one of the police officers involved in the murder of George Floyd. Although he was not initially named in the complaint, a law enforcement source confirmed his identity. In the complaint, Chauvin is referred to as “D.C.”
Turscak allegedly crafted a knife to stab Chauvin with. The 52-year-old approached the police officer in the law library and then proceeded to stab him.
Chauvin said he would have been dead if the police officers had not responded as quickly as they did.
After he waived his Miranda rights, Turscak’s story changed.

Derek Chauvin, the former Minnesota police officer who was convicted of murdering George Floyd in 2020, was seriously injured after being stabbed in federal prison on Saturday.
Chauvin was attacked around 12:30 p.m. at the Federal Correctional Institution in Tucson, Arizona. His attacker has not been identified. According to the report, prison employees performed “life-saving” measures before Chauvin was hospitalized.
“I’m sad to hear that Derek Chauvin was the target of violence,” Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison (D) said in a statement. “He was duly convicted of his crimes and, like any incarcerated individual, he should be able to serve his sentence without fear of retaliation or violence.”
Chauvin is currently serving 22.5 years in prison. The violence against him comes just one week after the U.S. Supreme Court denied Chauvin’s appeal of his second-degree murder conviction, as the former police officer claimed that new evidence proved that...

On Monday, the Supreme Court declined an appeal by former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who was convicted for the murder of George Floyd in May 2020.
A Hennepin County Jury found Chauvin guilty of killing Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, in April 2021. The former police officer was convicted of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in April 2021. He was sentenced to 22 and a half years in prison.
Chauvin also pleaded guilty to a federal charge of violating Floyd’s civil rights, for which he was sentenced to 21 years in federal prison. He is currently serving both sentences.
Lawyers for Chauvin approached the Court in October, arguing that the decision to keep the proceedings in Minneapolis denied him of his right to a fair trial to the publicity of the case.

NASCAR driver Noah Gragson has been suspended indefinitely after it was revealed that he had liked a racist meme on Instagram about George Floyd’s murder at the hands of a police officer.
Floyd, a black man, was killed in Minneapolis in 2020 by white police officer Derek Chauvin who had pinned an already-handcuffed Floyd’s head under his neck for about nine minutes. The killing renewed a debate about police brutality and the racial justice movement. It also led to the widespread Black Lives Matter protests, sparking conversations and debates across the nation.
In the meme, a live-action version of Sebastian, a crab in Disney’s The Little Mermaid, has a picture of Floyd’s face photoshopped on him. The text “Under Da Knee, Under Da Knee” features right below.
In their statement, Legacy Motor Club declared suspending Gragson indefinitely, further emphasizing that his actions “do not represent the values of our team.

For many years, filmmaker Peter Berg held nothing but fond memories from his college days in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. “My memory was just one of happiness and real joy, and it felt extremely diverse and inclusive,” the Macalester College alum tells THR — until decades later, when the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin shook the nation to its core. “When I first saw the killing, I was horrified,” he says. “And I was further horrified when I realized that it was in the Twin Cities.”

With Major League Wrestling making its debut tonight on Reelz, the ad-supported cable channel hopes to recreate the impossible. Launched in 2006 as Reelz Channel, then best known as home to Leonard Maltin’s “Maltin on Movies” and hosting the Visual Effects Society Awards, it went through many iterations — until recently, none terribly successful. When FX's "Justified" completed its six-season run in 2015, the United States' view of law enforcement was undergoing a radical shift due to the unrest in Ferguson, Missouri over police officer Darren Wilson's fatal shooting of unarmed 18-year-old Michael Brown. There would be many more tragic incidents in the years ahead, but the most egregious might've been the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis policeman Derek Chauvin. Fortunately, justice was served in this case (Chauvin is currently serving a 21-year prison bid), but Chauvin's nearly 10-minute choking of Floyd was so mind-bogglingly cruel that anything less than a life sentence felt inadequate.
As these abuses piled up, and the dynamic between cops and the people they're charged to protect and serve changed, people began pointing to the propensity of films and television to valorize law enforcement and the judicial system as upstanding dispensers of justice. And if you happen to...

Peter Berg didn’t know how to respond to the 2020 murder of George Floyd. It was not the Minneapolis that the filmmaker, a graduate of Saint Paul’s Macalester College, thought he knew. Eventually, he turned to football, as he had before in his career — following the predominantly Black players at the city’s North Community High School along with their coaches (also members of the Minneapolis Pd) for a football season that proved fraught on and off the field.
Boys in Blue, the resulting four-part Showtime series (out Jan. 6), may signal a softening for the 57-year-old director. Best known for such machismo-fueled features as Friday Night Lights, Hancock and Battleship, Berg is also readying a Netflix limited series about the opioid crisis (Painkiller) and a long-gestating Rihanna doc for Amazon — if she approves the cut. Speaking from the West L.A. offices of his Film Forties production company, Berg...

“White Lives Matter” is trademarked by two Black men. In an interview with Capital B, the hosts of Civic Cipher — the Arizona-based radio show focused on racial justice — revealed that they, as of several days ago, own the trademark for the phrase that Kanye West has attempted to use in a new Yeezy line.
“The way the law works is either you’re owning phrases, or it’s up for grabs for people to make money off them,” Ramses Ja, who co-hosts Civic Cipher with Quinton Ward, told Capital B.

“I can say antisemitic things and Adidas can’t drop me,” the artist formerly known as Kanye West proclaimed on Drink Champs just over a week ago. “Now what?” he rhetorically asked, with the sneering audacity of a man whose millions of dollars, millions of fans, and substantial high-powered connections have carried him through numerous instances of public backlash over the past 20 years. But that day is over.
Today, Adidas dropped him after a month in which he’s consistently asserted that he’s up against a cabal of Jewish people who control the world.

Roxie Washington, the mother of George Floyd’s daughter, is planning to sue Kanye West for disparaging and false comments he made about the murder by police of Floyd.
Washington and attorneys at both the Witherspoon Law Group and Dixon & Dixon Attorney At Law will be suing West, also known as Ye, for 250 million.
West made these recent comments on an interview with N.O.R.E. on his Revolt.TV podcast Drink Champs. Along with claiming that Floyd died from a fentanyl overdose, which was proven untrue by a medical examiner, West also made more antisemitic remarks.
Floyd was murdered when former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on his neck for almost 10 minutes while the man was handcuffed, with the death officially being ruled a homicide. Chauvin is serving 21 years in prison at Fci Tucson and has an estimated release time of December, 2035.

Rapper Kanye West continues to attract controversies as the daughter of George Floyd, whose death in police custody triggered global protests against racism, is now planning to file a 250 million lawsuit against the rapper over controversial remarks he made about the manner of Floyd’s death.
Attorneys for Floyd’s family have issued a cease-and-desist letter to the rapper — also known as Ye — and have claimed that his daughter has been “retraumatised” over his comments, reports Mirror.co.uk.
They have also suggested that Kanye is “creating an unsafe and unhealthy environment for her”. Roxie Washington, who is acting on behalf of her child and the sole beneficiary of Floyd’s estate, is suing Kanye, his business partners and associates for “harassment, misappropriation, defamation, and the infliction of emotional distress”.
They are seeking 250 million in damages.

Kanye West is facing a 250 million lawsuit from George Floyd’s family.
The potential suit follows West’s comments on a “Drink Champs” episode since removed from YouTube, in which West defamed Floyd, falsely saying he died of a fentanyl overdose instead of being murdered by Minneapolis police officers. The cause of death was formally listed as homicide. Former cop Derek Chauvin was convicted in Floyd’s death and is currently serving a 22-year sentence.
Per the press release, Roxie Washington, acting on behalf of her minor child (who is the sole beneficiary of Floyd’s estate), had retained the Witherspoon Law Group and Dixon & Dixon Attorneys at Law to file the suit against West. The suit lists Floyd’s daughter, represented jointly by the two firms, seeking 250 million in damages.

George Floyd’s family is suing Kanye West for 250 million following his comments on a recent episode of “Drink Champs”.
A Minneapolis police officer was convicted of murdering Floyd by kneeling on his neck for nearly nine minutes in May 2020 while he was face down on the ground, with a video of the incident sparking mass protests around the globe.
Ever since the video went viral, some have falsely claimed that Floyd, who had some drugs in his system, had actually died of an overdose unrelated to officer Derek Chauvin’s actions.
West said during the podcast episode, which has since been deleted: “They hit him with the fentanyl, if you look the guy’s knee wasn’t even on his neck like that.”

Drink Champs, the podcast hosted by N.O.R.E. and DJ Efn, has taken down a recent episode featuring Kanye “Ye” West, due to the rapper’s “false and hurtful” comments about the murder of George Floyd, a representative for the podcast told The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday.
“Drink Champs prides itself on its ability to allow a free flow of ideas within the hip hop community. That being said, unfortunately, the recent interview with Kanye West contained false and hurtful information regarding the circumstances surrounding the murder of George Floyd. Integrity is very important and we don’t want to promote false narratives on our platform. Our goal is to celebrate the culture,” the rep for Drink Champs said in a statement. “Therefore, we had no choice but to remove the episode from distribution. We apologize to the family of Mr.

George Floyd’s Family Feel ‘Betrayed’ by Kanye West, as They Consider Suing Rapper and Candace Owens
An attorney for the family of George Floyd says the family feels “betrayed” by Kanye West’s false claim that the 46-year-old’s death was from fentanyl and not a police officer kneeling on his neck for nearly nine minutes.

John Boyega has opened up about the state of diversity in film and TV after the killing of George Floyd and Black Lives Matter protests in 2020.

The Star Wars actor said: “We don’t want to leave this industry the same way we found it and we don’t want to exist in this industry being anything other than ourselves.”
Boyega has previously shared his experiences of being targeted by racists after he was cast inStar Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015, with some urging a boycott of the record-breaking film and sending death threats to the actor.

Kanye West has sparked fresh controversy by claiming that George Floyd died from fentanyl and that a police officer’s knee “wasn’t even on his neck like that.”
Floyd, a Black man, was killed in an altercation with police in Minneapolis in May 2020, with a video showing Officer Derek Chauvin with his knee on his neck for almost nine minutes.
West made the claims in an appearance on the Drink Champs podcast on Saturday and made his comments while discussing Candace Owens’s documentary The Greatest Lie Ever Sold: George Floyd and the Rise of BLM.
“They hit him with the fentanyl, if you look the guys knee wasn’t even on his neck like that,” said West.
He then went on to compare George Floyd to fashion designer Virgil Abloh, who died from cancer last November. And he then attacked the “Jewish media” who he claimed he had been “blocked” by.

In addition to railing against “the Jewish media,” Kanye West spent some time on Drink Champs regurgitating what he gleaned from the George Floyd “documentary” made by alt-right firebrand Candace Owens, his partner-in-White Lives Matter. Most notably, West said that fentanyl, and not being suffocated by a police officer’s knee, caused Floyd’s death.

Lester Holt’s Dateline Special, which airs Friday, Aug. 5, tells the story of Anton Black, a Black young man who died at the hands of police in 2018, and whose death has disturbing connections to George Floyd’s case.
The one-hour special, titled “What Happened to Anton Black?,” explores the warning signs the small town of Greensboro, MD received about new police officer Thomas Webster, who responded to a 911 call about Black dragging a younger boy in the street. Webster escalated the situation in a chase, unaware that the boys had been neighbors and friends for years, and restrained Black alongside two other officers and a bystander on Black’s front porch.
While death of Black and Floyd are undeniably tied to the legacy of police brutality against people of color in the U.S., the special also investigates a key figure in both trials: Dr. David Fowler, the Chief Medical...

Benjamin Crump occupies a peculiar position in American society. The attorney has famously represented families whose loved ones have been killed by the police: Trayvon Martin, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd are just a few of his highest-profile cases. But Crump is a civil lawyer, not a prosecutor. He can’t charge the officers involved in these cases, nor can he guarantee that they end up being held accountable for their actions. What he can, and does, do is help aggrieved families get some financial restitution.
But Crump is also an outsize public figure, known for his immediate presence at the sight of nearly every tragedy. He has been accused of peddling in the grief of Black families and of exploiting these incidents for personal gain. “Live Pd” is back, just with a different name and on a different network. Host and executive producer Dan Abrams will return for this iteration, retitled “On Patrol: Live” and airing on Reelz.
Former hit A&e series “Live Pd” was cancelled in June 2020 amid protests following the murder of George Floyd by former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. Simultaneously, the show faced a major controversy of its own when it was reported that in 2019 “Live Pd” filmed — and eventually destroyed — footage of a man dying in police custody. At the time, producers expressed regret over the destruction of the footage but explained it was standard practice to do so after completing the investigation that utilized the footage as evidence.
“On Patrol: Live,” which is technically a working title, will premiere this summer. The live show will air Friday and Saturday nights from 9 p.m. Et to midnight Et on Reelz.

On April 20, 2021, former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was convicted and sentenced to 22 years in prison for charges related to Floyd's death. On May 25, the former Potus and Flotus shared tributes to Floyd on their respective Instagram accounts, taking a moment to address the activism spurred from anger that arose in the aftermath of his death - and to acknowledge the recent mass shootings that are also dominating headlines on this painful anniversary.
