On July 25, 1957, Sharon was aboard a twin-engine Western Airlines Convair flight from Las Vegas to Los Angeles. It was over the Mojave Desert when one of thett0051136 male passengers detonated a bomb in the bathroom of the aircraft. A hole was blown in the side of the plane, but Sharon and 11 other passengers and crew survived, and it landed safely at the former George AFB near Victorville. The bomber was blown out of the aircraft and his body was found in the Ord Mountains after an intense search.
