Maniac, released on DVD October 15, 2013 is a remake of the 1980's film of the same name. William Lustig, who directed the original, returned as a producer. Unfortunately, they didn't take the opportunity to make improvements.
This version stars Elijah Wood as a mother fixated serial killer who kills then scalps his victims. It is a deception to say Wood is the star, because he is only seen when looking in a reflective surface. Most of the film is shot using the camera as his point of view, which is the main problem with this movie. It is very hard to watch and even more difficult to get involved on any level.
Nora Arnezeder does a nice job as the leading lady/love interest, and has to carry the movie. The rest of the cast is unremarkable, yet thankfully, willing to do nudity. Topless trumps talent.

Otisville, Mich. — A Michigan medical marijuana facility is partnering with a member of the Grammy-winning rap group Bone Thugs-n-Harmony to cultivate and distribute a new strain of medical marijuana.
The Green Oasis and Stanley "Flesh-n-Bone" Howse have agreed to work together on "Phifty Caliber Kush," which they say has a noticeable floral taste and is an effective pain reliever.
The Flint-area dispensary's owner, Anthony Butler, calls the new pot strain "the best of the best."
Flesh-n-Bone Global executive Michael "Tony B." Bernardi tells The Flint Journal ( ) that Howse hopes the product can provide relief for any qualified, verified patient. http://bit.ly/14bKODM
Besides distributing "Phifty Caliber Kush," The Green Oasis could begin selling merchandise and possibly host a visit from Howse.
Michigan voters approved marijuana for some chronic medical conditions in 2008.
