There’s one particular star whose career Brandon Perea says he’d love to emulate.
“I’m just a massive fan of her work for one, and the projects that she’s doing,” says the actor, who turned heads in Netflix’s The Oa, but really captured attention earlier this year as the bleached-haired tech salesman and UFO enthusiast Angel Torres in Jordan Peele’s sci-fi horror, Nope, his first major film role. “So to be able to mirror that in the slightest sense would be incredible.”
Thankfully for the 27-year-old, he’s already about to mirror one early element of Florence Pugh’s career.
Alongside perhaps Tom Holland and Letitia Wright (all three, coincidentally, now major elements in the MCU), Pugh — prior to her dramatic ascent — was a graduate of BAFTA’s Breakthrough program, the initiative set up by the British Academy...

It's not every day that young actors with few credits to their name (and especially those of color) manage to put themselves in a position for the role of a lifetime — let alone one in a Jordan Peele movie. When the "Get Out" and "Us" writer/director first began to tease early footage from the UFO-themed "Nope" (which /Film's Chris Evangelista reviewed here), fans quickly gravitated towards the obvious scene-stealers: Daniel Kaluuya in his second collaboration with Peele, Keke Palmer as the fiery and charming Emerald Haywood, and especially Steven Yeun in an understated supporting role that packed much more of a punch than anyone was probably expecting.
But in the midst of it all, actor Brandon Perea quietly flew under the radar as the Fry's employee Angel Torres. Once viewers finally got to see the film for themselves, however, this hapless tech expert soon became one of the stand-out highlights of the entire film.

Jordan Peele’s highly anticipated third feature film, “Nope,” has finally arrived.
The film follows Peele’s first two horror films as a writer/director, 2017’s “Get Out” and 2019’s “Us.” Known for his comedy and leading role in “Key and Peele,” Peele has quickly become a draw for fans as a filmmaker and “Nope,” unlike Peele’s first two films, leans heavily into the sci-fi genre with a blockbuster-sized budget. Peele reteamed with Daniel Kaluuya on the film, which finds a brother and sister duo trying to catch UFOs on camera.

Jordan Peele's next movie might come sooner than we thought. In a recent interview with The New York Times, Peele addressed comments about a potential "Nope" sequel following fan speculation around a character named Nobody, played by "Conan"'s Michael Busch. "Nope" stars Keke Palmer as Emerald Haywood, Daniel Kaluuya as Oj Haywood, Brandon Perea as Angel Torres, and Steven Yeun as Ricky "Jupe" Park, residents of the rural Agua Dulce area in Southern California, where an otherworldly entity is picking off residents one by one. (from left) Oj Haywood (Daniel Kaluuya), Angel Torres (Brandon Perea) and Emerald Haywood (Keke Palmer) in Nope, written, produced and directed by Jordan Peele. With Daniel Kaluuya, Jordan Peele knew exactly what he was getting. After all, Peele had directed him in 2017’s Get Out, for which Kaluuya earned an Oscar nomination. In fact, as Peele was writing the screenplay for Nope, he did so with Kaluuya in mind for the part of Oj Haywood. When it came to casting Haywood’s sister, though, Peele enlisted an actress he hadn’t previously directed: Keke Palmer. But once Kaluuya and Palmer started rehearsing together, Peele said he knew he’d found the perfect chemistry for the siblings.
