Former US Open doubles champion Coco Vandeweghe picked Alexander Zverev as the 2024 Australian Open favourite.
The former Wta player was part of the Tennis Channel panel discussing the upcoming Grand Slam. Asked by the host about the favorites at the event, Coco avoided the likes of Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, and took dark horse Zverev.
While the pick might seem silly at first glance, there are some reasons why it kind of makes sense. The courts Down Under play pretty fast, and that's certainly something that Zverev can use to his advantage.
His serve is one of the best when it's really clicking, and if it clicks for two weeks, then, he could win it. He's one of those players who can cover the court really well due to his dimensions, and if he limits the mistakes from the baseline, he could be a really tough player to beat.

Nick Kyrgios thinks he knows why Novak Djokovic sustained an injury issue at the 2024 United Cup.
Djokovic lost to Australian No. 1 Alex de Minaur at the event in straight sets. The 24-time Grand Slam champion had issues with his wrist during the match, but still finished the contest.
This is the second match in a row that the world No. 1 has encountered the problem. Djokovic also had a scare with his wrist in his previous singles match at the United Cup against Czech Republic's Jiri Lehecka.
Kyrgios has been away from tennis for a long time now. Repeated injury issues mean the 2022 Wimbledon runner-up has only played one match in the last 12 months, which was an unsuccessful comeback attempt in Stuttgart in June.
However, the 28-year-old has remained active by providing his opinions on social media, and Kyrgios released a tweet giving his view about why Djokovic picked up a wrist problem.

Rafael Nadal is returning to tennis shortly, and Daniil Medvedev is excited about potentially facing the Spaniard.
There is a lot of history between Medvedev and Nadal because they contested a pretty iconic Australian Open final where Medvedev was on the verge of winning. Nadal somehow pulled away the comeback to become the leading man in Grand Slams at that moment, which was legendary.
Obviously, Novak Djokovic overtook him, but you can't really deny the legacy of Nadal. For Medvedev, they are two sides of the same coin. Legendary players who present a unique set of challenges due to their tremendous talent and extensive experience.
It's kind of the same like with Novak; it's just that all the seasons that he played he wins a lot of matches and doesn't lose many. It's very tough to beat him. Actually with Rafa maybe I even had even less success than with Novak in a way.

Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal won't retire any time soon, according to Andrey Rublev, who believes they will keep pushing in their Grand Slam race.
This is hardly a shocking opinion because these players have confirmed that it's their intention. The case of Nadal is far more complicated as we don't know what will happen once he finally returns.
He did say that he would likely continue playing beyond his initial 2024 prognosis if things went well. Novak Djokovic is still one of the best players in the world, so for him, it's rather obvious that he'll keep playing.
There is only one reason, and that's legacy, as they both hope to finish with as many Grand Slams as possible.
I’m not surprised because I think he and Novak, those kind of players who are playing to leave a mark in the history of tennis; while Novak is still playing...

Rafael Nadal returns to tennis in less than ten days, and fellow Atp colleague Andrey Rublev could see him challenge for Grand Slams again.
While it might have seemed impossible a few months ago, it's finally happening. Rafael Nadal is returning to tennis, and many people are curious about how it will go. Some expect him to completely bomb, while others expect him to be competitive.
According to those who actually stood with him on a tennis court recently, Nadal is playing well enough to be competitive, but we'll see what happens. The comeback isn't happening for him only to be part of the Tour.
He's coming back with the intention of winning events, especially Grand Slams, and Andrey Rublev certainly thinks it could happen. He talked about Nadal with The National News.

What We Do In The Shadows will end with its upcoming season 6, it’s been announced: more on the news here.
What We Do In The Shadows began life as a feature film in 2014, written and directed by Flight Of The Concords star Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi. The latter of those two has gone on to direct Jojo Rabbit and has become a creative force in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, directing Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder, infusing the franchise with his signature humorous approach (even if he took the job to keep food on the table.)
What We Do In The Shadows inspired two television series. The first was Wellington Paranormal, which began in 2016 and followed police officers Minogue and O’Leary, played by Mike Minogue and Karen O’Leary respectively, who were minor characters in the film. It ran for four seasons from 2018 to 2022.

FX is preparing to say goodbye to Staten Island’s favorite coven of vampires.
The cable outlet will bring its comedy What We Do in the Shadows to a close with its forthcoming sixth season. The series is entering the back half of a two-season renewal that will take the show to its conclusion.
A spinoff of Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement’s 2014 movie of the same name, What We Do in the Shadows follows a group of vampires (played by Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou and Mark Proksch), their human familiar (Harvey Guillén) and an envoy from the Vampiric Counsel (Kristen Schaal) who live together in the New York borough.
Season five, which concluded in August, followed Guillermo (Guillén) as he struggled to tell Nandor (Novak) about having been made partially vampiric, while at the same time Laszlo (Berry) uses Guillermo’s blood to perform ghastly experiments with animals.

Novak Djokovic has been utterly dominant this year, which shouldn't be happening, according to Boris Becker, who used to coach the 24-time Grand Slam champion years ago.
The legendary German player knows a thing or two about tennis, and he's certainly always been familiar with Novak Djokovic's skill set. He used to coach the Serbian with great success in the past so he's grown to appreciate him even more.
The Serbian improved a lot since Becker last coached, and it's what's so amazing about this whole thing. He won three out of four Grand Slams in 2023, and that shouldn't be happening at his age, according to Becker.
He spoke about Djokovic's continued dominance in the ' Das Gelbe vom Ball' podcast, discussing his dominance so late in his career.

As the new Atp season approaches, Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz are ahead of the pack according to the former Roger Federer coach, Paul Annacone.
The 2024 season is slowly approaching, and predictions are starting to roll in. After all, we're about a month away from the first Grand Slam of the year and there won't be a lot of time for players to get things right once they start playing.
Neither Djokovic nor Alcaraz needs too much time as they proved this year how quickly they can flip the switch. Alcaraz's sudden rise on grass was spectacular to see, and it was straight out of Djokovic's playbook.
Those two are the players your mind goes to when you think about Grand Slams. Novak Djokovic won three out of four last year and has been dominant in Australia over the years.

Novak Djokovic has been incredibly impressive at the Australian Open , and he might get rewarded for it in a fantastic way.
The best reward for Djokovic has been winning the trophy as many times as he did at the event, but another honour might be bestowed upon him in the future. Australian Open director Craig Tiley admitted recently that Djokovic might get a court named after him at the complex due to his excellent performances at the event over the years.
Djokovic won the 10th Australian Open earlier this year , completing an incredible achievement. It's his best Grand Slam event, and he and Melbourne have a special connection.
He loves to play there. It was his first Grand Slam, and he might get a court named after him. Tiley was asked about it recently, and he shared his thoughts about it.

Novak Djokovic is being called the greatest of all time by many recently, including noted tennis coach Darren Cahill.
The Serbian did many great things in tennis, but most of the attention regarding his achievements is around his recent US Open triumph. That was Grand Slam number 24 , the highest number we've ever seen somebody on the men's side of the sport win.
Margaret Court has 24 as well, and while the numbers are the same, the significance is far greater with Djokovic. He won't stop here and will attempt to go for number 25 in Melbourne in a few months, so the legend of Djokovic is set to keep growing.

Novak Djokovic might not be the most popular player in the world, but he would be, according to Marion Bartoli, if he weren't Serbian.
Some markets are bigger while others are smaller, and while the United States can offer a huge market and popularity, Serbia can't do the same thing, and Novak Djokovic knows that very well. He even admitted that his nationality likely held him back in his career.
Former player Marion Bartoli agrees with that, as she explained in a recent interview with Rmc . She speculated that if Djokovic were American, he'd have far more recognition in the world. The United States is a much larger country and market that obviously changes things.
Of course it’s not just the fact that he is Serbian. We know very well that if Novak was American, he'd have a statue in every city. The fact that he is Serbian means...

Daniil Medvedev is one the best tennis players of the current era and was tasked to build the perfect player in a recent interview with Atp Tour.com
Medvedev went for an amalgam of at least eight players including himself, in the categories of serve, forehand, backhand, net play, touch, mental toughness, return game, and even celebration - cheekily selecting himself in two of those traits.
Medvedev constructed the perfect player beginning with the household shot in tennis - the forehand. It is the shot that you almost invariably cannot go wrong with, but Medvedev is convinced Swiss legend Roger Federer possesses the best forehand in the game, simply because it's the one wing you are never safe when you play the ball to him.

Medvedev went for an amalgam of at least eight players including himself, in the categories of serve, forehand, backhand, net play, touch, mental toughness, return game, and even celebration - cheekily selecting himself in two of those traits.

Novak Djokovic is not the most popular tennis player in history even though he's likely the best, and according to former player Rennae Stubbs, he knows it.
Popularity is such a fickle thing because it's really hard to pinpoint why it happens. Some people are popular because they're controversial, while others are popular because they aren't. It's not something you can clearly define, even though, in the case of the Big Three, there are some popular theories.
Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are more beloved than Novak Djokovic worldwide, and it's rather well known. Stats say that Djokovic is the better player overall, so why is that the case? Well, in some ways, he was a disruptor.
We had a perfect rivalry brewing on the Atp Tour between two highly respected and beloved players, and then came Djokovic. A player who doesn't have as clean of an image, who prioritises authenticity over anything,...

According to former world number one Andy Roddick , Novak Djokovic is the best athlete on planet Earth right now.
Being one of the best athletes in the world is certainly something Andy Roddick knows about. At one point in his life, he could have counted himself among them because he was a US Open champion and a world number one on the Atp Tour.
Novak Djokovic is both of those things right now, winning the Grand Slam not even a week ago and becoming world number one . Roddick talked a bit about Djokovic in his most recent Betway Column, calling him the best athlete in the world right now.
The dominance of Novak and the way that he’s able to win this consistently is just absurd. He’s probably the most reliable player that we’ve ever had in the game. I wouldn’t bet against him on any given day,...

Former player Rennae Stubbs broke down the US Open final between Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka , explaining what went wrong for the Belarusian.
Even if Coco Gauff won the Wta 1000 event in Cincinnati and arrived in New York with a winning streak, many still slightly favoured Sabalenka in the final. It was rather clear why - experience; she was the player who actually won a Grand Slam before and those things do matter.
Despite having experience, Sabalenka didn't remain the calmer player. She started well, won the opening set, but then dropped the next two to lose the match . Most of that came because she couldn't stay composed when it mattered the most.
Having a very hostile crowd at the packed Arthur Ashe Stadium certainly didn't help, and Stubbs, who talked on her Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast , thinks it played a pretty big factor.

Well-respected tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou hailed Novak Djokovic for the way in which he uniquely approaches winning Grand Slam titles, after his US Open title triumph.
Djokovic took on rival Daniil Medvedev in the US Open final. In stages of the encounter , Djokovic looked to be in a world of hurt from a physical standpoint, especially in that second set. But the Serb found a way, utilised tactical strategies that would turn things in his favour long-term and dealt with adversity like only he really can.

Last Sunday was a coronation for Novak Djokovic , who won his 24th Grand Slam title - a men's record and an Open Era record in all of tennis.
Yet, with gaudy names from the sporting world and beyond extending their warmest congratulatory messages , it is the deafening silence from Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal that has irked every fiber of Novak Djokovic's fans.
Djokovic, Federer, and Nadal have lived through a symbiotic relationship on the court, and the three of them have shaped tennis into this vibrant and modern spectacle we have today. In a sense, tennis fans feel there is some sort of camaraderie between them.
So when Djokovic won the 2023 US Open , a landmark achievement on many levels , his two greatest rivals hardly acknowledged it, neither in a tweet nor reposting the tournament's myriad of posts with Djokovic holding the trophy, at least in the public online space.

Novak Djokovic is far from finished and remains the best men's player in the world, according to Andy Murray .
Djokovic became the out-and-out all-time leading Grand Slam holder in men's tennis when he beat Daniil Medvedev in straight sets in the US final to claim the 24th major title of his career. The win capped another dominated season of slams for the Serbian, who also won the Australian Open and the Roland Garros.
It is clear that Djokovic remains the dominant force in the Atp due to his stellar 2023 campaign. Moreover, when speaking to BBC Sport, Murray feels that the Serbian great is far from finished, largely due to a lack of threat from the younger players.

Novak Djokovic 's coach, Goran Ivanisevic has shed light on the Serbian's upcoming schedule for the end of the Atp season.
Throughout 2023, Djokovic has been pretty selective with his tournament entries, and much of his preparation has been geared towards recovery and targeting the Grand Slams. Overall, the 36-year-old has played in nine competitions and won four, including his 24th career Grand Slam at the US Open last time out .
It hasn't been the most intense schedule for Djokovic so far, and it appears as though he will play a few more hand-picked events before the Atp Finals in Turin in November. When speaking to Sport Klub, Ivanisevic confirmed that Djokovic would head to the Davis Cup next week and effectively said the Serbian has just one potential tournament in him before the Atp Finals .
"My future is to go for knee surgery. As for Novak, I know he is going to the Davis Cup.

Andy Murray believed that Novak Djokovic would win the 2023 Wimbledon Championships, but he was wrong, as Carlos Alcaraz won it.
The 2023 Wimbledon final saw Novak Djokovic battle Carlos Alcaraz in the final and the 5-setter delivered. It was a fabulous match that ultimately saw Alcaraz win his maiden Wimbledon trophy, something that the Spaniard still can't believe .
Andy Murray was in the stands for that match and he was asked about it once more in Washington. He played his first match at the Citi Open, a very good performance and a victory, and after the match, he talked about Wimbledon.
I wouldn't say I was surprised, really. Maybe by the result. I thought that Novak would win, but I did think the conditions that day were more favorable for Carlos. You know, it was very, very breezy, very blustery conditions. I don't think that's Novak's, you know, favorite conditions to play in.

The coach of Novak Djokovic , Goran Ivanisevic , believes that Jannik Sinner is the only threat to Carlos Alcaraz at the 2023 US Open along with the Serb.
Djokovic will be making a return to the US Open this year after not being able to play for a few years. The Serbian last played in 2021 when he lost to Daniil Medvedev in the final, and he will be returning with revenge on his mind this year, especially after letting Wimbledon slip through his fingers , but there will be one man standing in his way.
In his absence, Alcaraz lifted the trophy , and he'll be the defending champion. Djokovic would certainly enjoy a chance to dethrone him, and in Ivanisevic's mind, it's another youngster, Jannik Sinner, that is the biggest threat to the Spaniard, along with Djokovic.

Alexei Popyrin defeated Stan Wawrinka in a thrilling three-set final at the 2023 Croatia Open in Umag to clinch the title.
17 years after his first title victory on the Atp Tour, the Swiss veteran had a chance to win his first title in six years in his first final since 2019 . But his Australian opponent just proved to be better, despite fighting cramps during the match.
With the match swaying towards Wawrinka's favour in the humid Croatian clay court, Popyrin pulled off a remarkable 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4 victory , despite suffering a crippling cramp that marred his performance in the deciding set.
The match meant a lot for both protagonists. Wawrinka was really teary during the trophy ceremony , while his Australian opponent was left speechless, not knowing how he was able to win the match.

Casper Ruud isn't the biggest fan of grass tennis but he understands the importance of points so he's motivated for this year's Wimbledon .
Ruud's affinity for grass-court tennis has always been rather low as the Norwegian joked plenty of times that grass is for golf and not tennis . The Norwegian didn't play any preparation events for Wimbledon this year which was not surprising after his deep Roland Garros run.
He opted for various other activities including Golf which he jokingly once referred to as his preparation for Wimbledon. The Norwegian likely won't ever win Wimbledon but he's capable of producing a solid enough level to make him a consistent performer on the surface. Speaking ahead of the event, Ruud admitted that he's not expecting too much from himself which can be beneficial.

Carlos Alcaraz , Novak Djokovic , and also Daniil Medvedev are all going to fight for the World No. 1 spot on the Atp Tour at the 2023 Wimbledon .
With no points to defend from the last year's event, the calculations for the battle for the World No. 1 spot are a little bit easier. Players need to focus only on points that they can gain this year , and as always at Grand Slams, there's plenty on offer with the champion adding 2000 points to the Atp Rankings .
Entering the tournament as the top seed is Carlos Alcaraz , and the 20-year-old can keep the World No. 1 spot also after the tournament, but the fight for it will be fierce. Moreover, being the first seed is something that the Spaniard tries to avoid thinking about as it adds unwanted pressure.

The first time Alcaraz faced Djokovic on the Atp Tour was last year at the Madrid Open where the Spaniard proved better by beating Djokovic in three sets. It was a major achievement for the youngster who beat Nadal and Djokovic in back-to-back matches.
He won the trophy that year and won the Madrid Open this year again but faced Djokovic on a different clay court. It was in Paris at Roland Garros recently and the result was different.
Alcaraz caved under the pressure and started to cramp resulting in a very anticlimactic end to the match . Djokovic went on to make history by winning his 23rd Grand Slam trophy while Alcaraz was left trying to pinpoint what went wrong.

Nick Kyrgios will be competing at the 2023 Wimbledon but his preparation has been far from ideal and he knows it.
Having played only one match on the Atp Tour in almost nine months is far from ideal, and the Australian knows it. He certainly didn't want to enter the 2023 Wimbledon without an ideal preparation, but it's here and he has to deal with it.
According to his own words, Kyrgios doesn't have anything left to prove , and after reaching the final of the event last year, he'll try to take it one step further this time around. But that won't be easy, and it's not because of his game, but because of his injuries and rehabilitation.
Incredibly patient Kyrgios spoke about his preparation during the pre-tournament press conference, and while happy that he's able to be in the All England Club, he was really cautious when talking about his readiness.

Eurosport tennis analyst Barbara Schett doesn't think Carlos Alcaraz is ready to win Wimbledon as long as Novak Djokovic is in the draw.
Carlos Alcaraz will be the top seed at Wimbledon , something that he described as a dream. Does that mean that he'll win Wimbledon? Obviously not, even though there is a chance. His run in Queen's this week proved that his tennis can work on grass and he's certainly in the circle of players capable of winning the event.
Former player Barbara Schett previewed his chances for Eurosport admitting that she does expect Alcaraz to do well but not go all the way. His stock took a beating with the anticlimactic finish at Roland Garros which caused everybody to temper their expectations with him.
Yes, Carlos won the tournament in Queen’s, but we saw what happened with him at the French Open when he started cramping because...

Former player and Eurosport analyst Barbara Schett thinks that only an injury could possibly prevent Novak Djokovic from winning yet another Wimbledon .
Novak Djokovic is the number one favourite for Wimbledon and it's pretty clear why. The Serbian won the event four years in a row, he has more wins than the whole current Top 20 combined and he's just been super solid at the event.
He didn't lose on Centre Court for 10 years which tells you all you really need to know. Besides that, there aren't any players that could possibly challenge him. Carlos Alcaraz seems like the best bet and even he is aware that it's far harder on grass than any other surface. Eurosport's Barbara Schett agrees.
I have to say, looking at the way Novak has been playing this year, looking at the way Novak has been playing in Wimbledon in the past, he's going in as the heavy favourite,...

Nick Kyrgios is quite a character but he's a pretty normal guy that simply doesn't leave too much for imagination.
If you ever wondered who is Nick Kyrgios you don't have to. The Australian has been pretty open about who he is and what makes him tick which is rather unique. Being in the public eye from his teenage years, Kyrgios never pretended to be something he was not.
He's not perfect, he makes plenty of mistakes but he admits it. He tries to be the best he can and it's why so many feel drawn to him. Being a pretty good tennis player who plays in an exciting manner certainly helps. There is plenty unique about him but not having a coach is certainly something that's not very common in tennis.
While some players are known to change coaches often Kyrgios doesn't have anything to change. He doesn't have...

Former player and current analyst Mats Wilander thinks that Novak Djokovic faces a good amount of pressure in a bid to separate himself from Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
The Serbian recently became the first man to ever win 23 Grand Slams . He might add number 24 at Wimbledon with many considering him the top favourite. After all, there are many incredible stats backing that up.
Besides winning the four previous editions of Wimbledon comfortably, Djokovic also has more wins at the event than the rest of the Top 20 combined . For the former player Wilander, he's the overwhelming favourite to win.
To me, Novak Djokovic goes in as the big favourite. And the reason that I think he's the big favourite is that I still haven't seen anyone who is as solid as Novak from the baseline that serves as well as Novak.
Carlos Alcaraz is among those that could challenge him...

Iga Swiatek criticized the Madrid Open for their scheduling and she was supported by Australian coach Rennae Stubbs.
After losing in the final of the 2023 Madrid Open to Aryna Sabalenka, the world no. 1, Iga Swiatek took a chance to address the crowd, thank her team, but also comment on the tournament organization, particularly the scheduling which she didn't like.
In her fourth-round match at the Wta 1000 event in the Spanish capital, the Pole had to play until 1 Am against Ekaterina Alexandrova and she didn't like that, since also her following match ended well past midnight. During the trophy ceremony, Swiatek said:
"It's not fun to play at 1 Am though, so I'm happy anyway that I was able to get past this experience, and survive and be in the final, so thank you for your support and your energy."
The comment soon went viral but not just because of Swiatek's words...

Roger Federer talked about possible Rafael Nadal's absence from the upcoming 2023 Roland Garros.
The Swiss Maestro and the Spanish King of Clay used to be rivals on the tennis court but now their life paths separated a little bit. While Nadal still competes on the Atp Tour, Federer is enjoying his retirement and he also had a chance to co-host Met Gala recently.
A few days later, he moved to Miami for the F1 Miami Grand Prix and while he was there to enjoy the race, Skysports managed to get an interview with the 20-time Grand Slam champion and ask him about what he thinks about his good friend's struggles.
"It would be brutal (Nadal not being there), that would be tough for tennis if Rafa isn't going to be there. I still hope so, I saw he pulled out of Rome so I wish him the best."

Patrick McEnroe thinks that Rafael Nadal's Roland Garros participation will be in serious doubt if he doesn't make his return in Rome.
Nobody really knows when Nadal will make his return to the tennis courts as there is very little information about it. In a recent update, Nadal himself admitted that recovery hasn't been going as well as the initial prognosis suggested.
His uncle was adamant recently that Nadal won't miss Roland Garros basically confirming that his nephew will take to the courts in Paris. Patrick McEnroe is not optimistic considering how things went so far. He shared his thoughts in his podcast.
So for those top guys obviously they’ve got injury issues as well. Rafa has more injury issues than Novak since he hasn’t played. Novak has had a little bit of an elbow problem but he’s been able to play so they’re fine with skipping Madrid.
