Exclusive: Dues payable by SAG-AFTRA’s high-earning members will be going up over the next two years, per a resolution passed at the union’s recently-concluded 5th biennial convention. The dues hike will be achieved by increasing the maximum earnings on which members pay their percentage of work dues.
The dues cap on work earnings, which has not been raised since the merger of SAG and AFTRA in 2012, is currently set at $500,000, but will be going up to $750,000 in May of 2022, and to $1 million in May of 2023.
The resolution passed at the convention states:
Whereas, member dues are the main means by which SAG-AFTRA is able to fund its work on behalf of members, and
Whereas, those resources underpin all essential SAG-AFTRA initiatives, including contract negotiations and enforcement, safety protocols and rules, diversity, equity, and inclusion, residuals processing, and countless other activities protecting our members; and

Fran Drescher supporters have held on to two more national board seats as the SAG-AFTRA elections wrap up later this week. Incumbent Bill Mootos has been reelected in New England, and incumbent Mel MacKaron has been reelected in New Mexico.
With only four of the union’s 25 local races to be decided, it now looks more and more likely that Drescher’s ruling Unite for Strength party and its affiliates will continue to hold a majority of the 80 National board members, which includes the 10 national officers, no matter who wins the national presidency – Drescher or Matthew Modine. Local elections in Los Angeles and New York, where 23 national board seats are still up for grabs, will determine the balance of power. Those races, and the campaigns for national president and secretary-treasurer, will conclude Thursday.
In New England, Mootos defeated Chuck Slavin by a 2-to-1 margin – 469 votes to 225. Slavin was endorsed by Modine’s MembershipFirst slate.

SAG's membership demanded change Thursday, electing members of the opposition Unite for Strength slate and shifting the balance of power on the union's national board.
The results are a defeat for SAG president Alan Rosenberg and the current leadership, which has guided the union through months of contentious bargaining and into a stalemate with the major studios and production companies. The Ufs winners are expected to align with members of the New York and regional boards who sit on the national board, breaking the hold of the MembershipFirst faction.
"We offered members a clear choice in this election: end the fighting with AFTRA and instead partner with them to create a stronger union for performers," said Ned Vaughn, a Ufs leader who was elected to the Hollywood board. "The results in this unusually high turnout election leave no doubt that is what the members want. We look forward to working...
