Paramount+ today announced that production is underway on the highly anticipated second season of the original drama series Lioness (previously known as Special Ops: Lioness).
From Oscar nominee Taylor Sheridan, the espionage thriller is currently filming in Texas and features a star-studded cast, including series lead and executive producer Zoe Saldaña, Laysla De Oliveira, Genesis Rodriguez, Emmy Award nominee Michael Kelly, with Oscar winner Morgan Freeman, and Academy Award winner and executive producer Nicole Kidman.
The Lioness series is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios exclusively for Paramount+.

In 1989, the legendary Patrick Swayze starred in the original Road House movie. The movie has achieved cult status in the meantime, and while the 2006 sequel was panned by critics, Amazon decided to remake the movie, which was released earlier this year to mixed reviews, but it seems that the fans were more than satisfied, as a sequel has been announced by Amazon, with the first film’s main star, Jake Gyllenhaal set to reprise his role in the sequel. We’re certain that this sequel won’t repeat the failure of the original sequel, but it remains to be seen how well Amazon is going to execute it.
The first movie was released in March 2024, and the critics on Rotten Tomatoes have agreed that “Road House updates a cult classic for a new generation, happily replicating the original’s emphasis on cheesy brawn over narrative brains.”

No doubt Jake Gyllenhaal took getting into ripped and shredded shape for the “Road House” remake very seriously.

You remember Road House, right? The 1989 movie where Patrick Swayze is a professional New York City bouncer imported to Missouri to work at the most raucous road house bar in the Show Me State? The kind of film in which the hero does tai chi, reads philosophy and coos Zen koans like “Pain don’t hurt,” and the bad guy utters bon mots like, “I used to fuck guys like you in prison?” (It was a different time.) Direct by the appropriately named Rowdy Harrington, this finely aged slice of...

There are some key differences between the Dalton of Rowdy Herrington’s 1989 cult classic Road House and the Dalton of Doug Liman’s equally boisterous remake. To start, the stoic bouncer’s first name is now Elwood instead of John. He rolls into town — the Florida Keys, not Kansas City — on a Greyhound bus instead of in a new car. This Dalton walks everywhere, wearing down the soles of his cigar brown combat boots with each mile. His swagger is enhanced by a mellow kindness — at one point, a character compares him to Mr. Rogers (with a violent edge, of course).
What hasn’t changed all that much are Dalton’s motivations and his notoriety. When we meet the infamous man, played here with compelling restraint by Jake Gyllenhaal, his face is shrouded by his black hoodie. He saunters into an underground fight club with a menacing determination. The camera trails him,...

In the era of action films like John Wick, the bar for adrenaline-fueled entertainment has been set high. And when it comes to remakes, there exists a fine line that must be walked between regard for the original and fresh perspectives.
Doug Liman directs the remake of the classic1989 film Road House, which premiered Friday in the Headliner category at SXSW 2024. Unfortunately, this remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal delivers a lackluster and ultimately unnecessary retread of the original Patrick Swayze-starring film.
Central to the movie is Gyllenhaal’s Dalton, a former UFC brawler grappling with his past. Struggling to get by on his reputation, Dalton catches the eye of Frankie (Jessica Williams), who owns a roadhouse in the picturesque Florida Keys. She recruits him as her new bouncer, aiming to protect her cherished establishment from a ruthless gang under the command of the local criminal overlord, Brandt (Billy Magnussen).

A Road House remake is coming to Amazon Prime Video later this year, but there's a lot more to it than just your average remake.
Besides a seemingly new plot and new location, the film has also been embroiled in drama in recent months, from casting choices to producers.
Here's everything we know about the reboot of Road House and the drama involved in making the movie.
Why Are They Remaking Road House?
The reason why they decided to remake the 1989 cult classic remains unknown, but talks of the remake have been going on for nearly ten years.

Things are getting rowdy behind the scenes at “Road House.”
On Wednesday, Variety reported that the new “Road House” could have avoided a streaming debut, but before production began Amazon gave “the filmmakers and (star Jake) Gyllenhaal” a choice: $60 million budget and theatrical; $85 million and streaming. They chose the latter.
“The filmmakers” presumably refers to director Doug Liman and producer Joel Silver.
“They all took the money,” a source told Variety.

Amazon MGM Studios has released the first trailer for its remake of the 1989 action classic “Road House,” which will be available to stream globally on Prime Video on March 21.
The feature stars Jake Gyllenhaal as a former UFC fighter struggling to make ends meet. After the owner of a Florida Keys roadhouse finds him sleeping in his car, Elwood Dalton becomes a bouncer and finds himself roped into a war of outlaws and bikers and a developer determined to build a lavish resort for “rich assholes.”
“Shrinking” star Jessica Williams, who confirmed to Variety last summer she’d be joining the cast, plays the roadhouse owner. She described Gyllenhaal as an “insane actor” in the interview.
“Every time, you’re learning. My job as an actor, especially on ‘Shrinking,’ is to make everyone look good by knowing what the hell I’m doing on set,” Williams said. “I love volleying,...

It’s been a hot minute since we heard an update about an upcoming remake of The Saint starring Regé-Jean Page. Still, Deadline is here to blow the dust off this project with word that Doug Liman is officially directing The Saint remake. In addition to his starring role, Page will executive produce with Lorenzo Dibonaventura, Brad Krevoy, and the late Robert Evans.
Plot details for The Saint remake remain a mystery. However, Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani are working on the script. The Saint is based on the 1920s book series that follows Simon Templar, also known as The Saint. Often described as a Robin Hood-like criminal and thief for hire, Simon can usually be found traveling the globe and looking for adventure. As I said, plot details on the new project are confidential at this time, though sources indicate that the team is working around the clock to reimagine the character.

There’s bound to be blood on the bar room floor when Doug Liman’s Road House remake starts a rumble in theaters. According to FilmRatings.com, the update starring Jake Gyllenhaal is Rated R for violence throughout, pervasive language, and some nudity. Today’s Road House remake rating clearly indicates that Liman won’t be holding back when the film punches its way into cinemas, and Gyllenhaal’s transformation into a chiseled behemoth won’t go to waste.
The original Road House starred Patrick Swayze as Dalton, a “cooler” hired to help clean up The Double Deuce, one of the rowdiest bars in Missouri. The film has become a cult favorite over the years, and there have been various attempts at remaking the movie. Prime Video says the new take will star Gyllenhaal as a former UFC fighter who takes a job as a bouncer at a roadhouse in the Florida Keys.

Nicole Kidman’s CIA senior supervisor Kaitlyn Meade firmly informs Joe’s Qrf team how things are gonna be in an exclusive sneak peek from this Sunday’s episode of Paramount+’s Special Ops: Lioness.
When last we tuned into the freshman espionage drama, Kaitlyn had made a special trip to inform Joe (played by Zoe Saldana) — in person — that team members Two Cups, Tucker and Randy, when begrudgingly “lent out” to CIA case officer Kyle to handle an extraction in Van Horn, Texas, got caught on camera by Border Patrol. And said extraction, we know, wound up involving multiple casualties.

Special Ops: Lioness Season 1 Episode 4 unravels the threads of Joe's life, simultaneously plucking at the strings of her career and family.
As Cruz gets in deeper with Aaliyah and her friends, things escalate quickly and eventually become dire during a seemingly low-stakes outing.
Joe is dealing with a secondary work crisis on top of Cruz's issues when her family situation comes crashing down in this harrowing episode, leaving everything unresolved.
Joe's career is typically the most significant stressor in her life, so when we see her family situation crumbling before her eyes when Kate's involved in a severe car accident, it's more jarring than usual.
Meanwhile, Cruz feels like she's entirely in control of Aaliyah and her friend group until she finds herself in grave danger without the ability to fend for herself.
Cruz's undercover operation runs smoothly early in the episode as she bonds with Aaliyah.

Special Ops: Lioness Season 1 Episode 3 drops Cruz into the world of Aaliyah Amrohi without a parachute.
Cruz, undercover alone for the first time, leaves Joe and the Lioness team behind.
Without the ability to keep contact with her, they're left to work double time and manage to build weeks' worth of tension in one high-intensity hour.
As we delve deeper into the world of the Middle Eastern elite, it's clear that Cruz is at a deficit. She's trying to fit in, but Joe instructs her to be as dull as possible.
While Cruz is undercover, Joe never stops moving. This may be to her detriment, but it's Joe's way. She's fast, efficient, and never in one place for long.
Throughout Special Ops: Lioness Season 1, we've seen the overall plot threads begin to be woven together. Joe's family life, which she's sparing about at work, has become complicated as her daughter Kate rebels.
