Vice President Mike Pence went live on TV Friday to be injected with Pfizer’s new coronavirus vaccine, hoping to instill a sense of safety and effectiveness as it is rolled out across the country.
“I didn’t feel a thing. Well done,” Pence said, against a backdrop that read “safe and effective.” He thanked the medical team at Walter Reed Medical Center.
The vaccine also was given to Pence’s wife, Karen, and to Surgeon General Jerome Adams.
There have been concerns that large segments of the population will refuse to get the vaccine, out of fears for its safety or because of misinformation or criticism of how it is being presented to the public.
On Thursday, Fox News’ Tucker Carlson used his opening monologue to say that the rollout of the campaign feels “too slick” and that health officials should explain the benefits and be honest about the...

Update, with Quaid response In an Instagram video post titled, in caps, “No Good Deed Goes Unpoliticized,” actor Dennis Quaid says he’s “feeling some outrage and a lot of disappointment” about reports in “the cancel culture media” regarding his involvement in a public service campaign about Covid-19.
“It was in no way political,” Quaid says in the video, adding that he was not paid for his involvement – he taped an interview with Dr. Anthony Fauci – and that the purpose of the PSA and interview with Fauci was “about raising awareness of Covid-19 and what we can still do to prevent lives being lost to this terrible, terrible virus. It was about the importance of wearing a mask and social distancing.”
The involvement of Quaid and gospel singer Cece Winans was first reported in a Politico article today about a $300 million White House ad campaign touting the Trump Administration’s...

Responding to an urgent March 14 appeal from the National Security Council, Taiwan sent the United States hundreds of thousands of masks — 3,600 of which were specially earmarked for White House staff and officials. At the same time they were privately scrambling to procure these masks, the Trump administration was publicly downplaying the need for Americans to wear the protective gear themselves to stem off the spread of the coronavirus.
According to the Washington Post, the White House requested masks from Taiwan because the U.S. was experiencing a shortage of protective gear.

Surgeon General Jerome Adams says he meant no harm when he made comments directed at people of color during Friday’s White House Covid-19 briefing. In fact, he says he was trying to help.
Adams made headlines while addressing how coronavirus is disproportionately affecting African Americans and Latinos in several parts of the country. During his remarks, he urged people of color to take recommended precautions and “avoid alcohol, tobacco, and drugs” amid the global pandemic. “Do it for your abuela, do it for your granddaddy, do it for your big mama, do it for your pop pop,” he said. “We need you to understand, especially in communities of color.

CNN has been informed by a spokesman for Vice President Michael Pence that it cannot have access to top government health officials grappling with the nation’s coronavirus pandemic unless it televises specific portions of the Trump Administration’s daily briefings on the spread of the disease.
“When you guys cover the briefings with the health officials then you can expect them back on your air,” a Pence spokesperson told CNN, according to a report posted Thursday.
Spokespersons for CNN were not able to offer immediate comment on the situation. Health officials like Dr. Anthony Fauci have been regular guests on a weekly town-hall CNN has presented with Anderson Cooper and Dr. Sanjay Gupta on Thursday nights.
