Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was always intended to be the final Gotg movie (at least for the foreseeable future), and it served as a fitting send-off for the team - but it did also lay the groundwork for potential follow-ups/spin-offs at the same time.
One post-credits scene introduced a new incarnation of the Guardians led by Rocket Raccoon, and the other teased the possibility of a solo Star-Lord adventure, with Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) returning to Earth to reconnect with his grandfather.
Director James Gunn has previously addressed that final "The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return" title card, and it sounds like there are (or were) indeed tentative plans in place for a spin-off focusing on Quill's effort to adapt to life back on Terra.
"Oh, but not quite over. We always want to give somebody a little something special. And Chris and I, forever, have talked...

Director James Gunn brought a new level of emotional power to “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” by making the wisecracking Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper) and his tragic backstory the centerpiece of the finale. This required the Oscar-nominated VFX (led by Marvel’s production VFX supervisor Stéphane Ceretti) to up its game considerably to meet the demands of Gunn’s intimate scale and epic scope.
Framestore (led by VFX supervisor Alexis Wajsbrot) was tasked with expanding and improving its keyframe animation of Rocket through six stages, from genetically altered baby raccoon to hardened weapons expert. This allowed for greater nuance and complexity in the facial performance along with more detailed fur and an evolved gait and physiology. “It’s really a chain of artists that work together and get that to the level where other humans looking at it are crying because of a CG raccoon,” Ceretti told IndieWire in the video below.

No Hollywood Walk of Fame Star for Robert Downey Jr yet ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Hollywood actor Mark Ruffalo received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, February 8. The Avengers actor shared the news on his social media with a picture of his wife, Sunrise Coigney and his three children. Mark is one of many from the Marvel world to receive this honour. Several actors from the MCU have already received their stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But do you know who hasn’t received one? It’s Robert Downey Jr.
Robert Downey Jr. has a longstanding career and has delivered impeccable performances. The actor has neither received an Oscar nor the Hollywood Walk of Fame Star. We can only hope that with Oppenheimer, Robert wins an Academy Award. Now, to those who have received the Star, we have made a list of famous Marvel actors honoured with it.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" ended with a new team of Guardians led by Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper). One of their number was Phyla (Kai Zen), a young white-haired girl and freed test subject of evil geneticist the High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji).
If you're a comics fan, then yes, you likely realized that this was indeed the Marvel Cinematic Universe incarnation of the hero Phyla-Vell. If you only watch the movies, you're still thinking (to quote Korath the Pursuer), "Who?!" Well, let me explain.
In the comics, Phyla is the daughter of Captain Marvel — the alien warrior Mar-Vell, not Carol Danvers. Annette Benning played a female version of Mar-Vell in 2019's "Captain Marvel," but the character is traditionally male. Mar-Vell and his progeny are Kree, the imperious race to which "Guardians of the Galaxy" villain Ronan The Accuser (Lee Pace) belonged. The Kree have both blue and pink-shaded skin...

Guardians of the Galaxy concluded its trilogy with the release of Vol. 3, delivering an emotionally charged finale. Notably, this marked James Gunn’s farewell to the MCU following his dismissal over old Tweets, subsequently taking the reins of the revitalized Dcu. Throughout the film, pivotal members of the Guardians chose divergent paths.
Gamora rejoined the Ravagers, Quill returned to Earth, Mantis embarked on a personal quest, and Nebula and Drax remained on Knowhere, safeguarding the children rescued from High Evolutionary’s experiments. The core team now comprises Groot and Rocket, with Rocket assuming leadership, while Adam Warlock, Phyla-Vel, Blurp, and Kraglin replaced many familiar faces.
Despite the significant shift, fans clung to hope for past Guardians’ cameos in future MCU ventures. However, James Gunn quashed such expectations on Instagram. When questioned by a fan about continuing the GotG legacy and his relationship with Kevin Feige, Gunn unequivocally expressed his desire...

‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ concluded the trilogy with the release of Vol. 3, and it was an extremely emotional movie. First and foremost, it was Gunn’s last MCU movie after he was fired due to some old Tweets that got uncovered and before he took over the newly revamped Dcu. Second, as we could see over the course of the movie, half of the core members of Guardians decided to part ways and pursue other things in the Universe.
With Gamora returning to Ravagers, Quill returning to Earth, Mantis leaving the team to discover what she really wants, and Nebula and Drax staying on Knowhere to take care of the legion of children they saved from High Evolutionary’s experiments. The core of the Guardians team are known, those are Groot and Rocket, with Rocket serving as the team’s leader, and much of the old cast has been replaced with Adam Warlock,...

As the casting of Superman: Legacy moves forward, there’s one important role that fans are awaiting: that of Jor-El, the father of Kal-El aka Superman aka Clark Kent. So who will fill that role? Right now, Kurt Russell has been rumored to be attached to Jor-El – but both Russell and DC Studios co-head James Gunn have debunked that any talk has taken place.
Speaking with ComicBook.com, Kurt Russell said there is zero truth (yet?) to playing Jor-El in Superman: Legacy. “You know what: we don’t know a lot about Jor-El. Maybe there’s a version… I never heard this, so I don’t know. James Gunn was a blast to work with, though, so you never know.” For his part, Gunn addressed the rumor on Threads with, “I love working with and directing Kurt. Hilarious and fun and talented guy. But no this was never discussed.” The relationship...

It's been 20 years since "The O.C." debuted on Fox, but it's still hard to see past Seth Cohen when Adam Brody shows up in a movie or TV show. It shouldn't be, because he's a terrific actor, but there's something about his still-fresh-faced persona that immediately harkens back to his time as America's favorite nerd-turned-awkwardly-popular-kid on the millennials' slightly savvier version of "Beverly Hills 90210."
Recently, Brody took his typecasting head-on with Evan Morgan's "The Kid Detective," an underrated and frustratingly underseen comedy about an Encyclopedia Brown-type wunderkind who's grown up to be a hard-drinking-and-drugging failure of a detective. His character has never made good on his early promise, but suddenly a murder case falls in his lap, and he has the opportunity to break free of his boy-wonder shackles.

Note: Light spoilers ahead for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” may mark the end of the Guardians as we know them, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t continuing on. In fact, the film’s post-credits tag makes it explicitly clear that “The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return.” Now, you might be wondering if the word “legendary” signifies something important, or maybe someone new — and those instincts would be right.
The good news is “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” doesn’t actually kill off any of the Guardians, as many expected it to. There were a few scares between Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), but ultimately, they all survived. That said, they did kind of break up.
The end of the film sees the original Guardians go in several different directions. Peter heads back to Earth to find his...

Since the MCU kicked off with Phase 4, we’ve finally gotten an expansion from movies only to TV shows that are a part of the MCU as well. One such show that is quite unique compared to the others, though, was ‘I Am Groot.’ The endearing five-episode first season of short animated films about Baby Groot captured our hearts – but will there be another season?
It is confirmed that ‘I Am Groot’ Season 2 will happen, but an official date hasn’t been set just yet. However, some sources suggest that we could see ‘I Am Groot’ Season 2 arrive on Disney+ as early as September 2023. Meaning – it would be the next MCU entry in line right after ‘Secret Invasion’ and before ‘Loki’ Season 2 in October.
Now that the industry-wide strikes are in full effect as we speak, everything could eventually be pushed back a bit, so take this information with a grain of salt.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" was a massive audience-pleaser, and one of those faces in the theater it brought a smile to was none other than Kevin Bacon's. Imagine being Kevin Bacon sitting in your local multiplex, throwing back some popcorn and watching the latest big MCU movie only to find out you yourself end up being not only name-checked in the movie, but also become kind of essential to the plot.
Bacon would ultimately appear alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy themselves in last year's "The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special," but before that was even a possibility, he was just a movie fan whose "jaw dropped" when he heard his name pop up in that first film. He described that moment in an interview with IGN:

Even before Kraglin became a more prominent "Guardians of the Galaxy" character, Sean Gunn was an integral part of the movies. While Bradley Cooper continues to provide the well-known voice of Rocket Raccoon, Gunn has served as the on-set Rocket through motion capture since the first "Guardians" film in 2014. After six movies -- including two "Avengers" crossovers and "Thor: Love and Thunder" -- and one Disney+ holiday special, Gunn has seen it all. In "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," he gives a dual performance as Kraglin and Rocket, the latter of whom has such a beefed-up role that we've argued he, not Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), is the real lead, and heart of the movie.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 3 hit theaters this past week and gave audiences another two-hour action-packed adventure ride that is being praised as arguably the best MCU movie since Endgame. The Guardians movies have always been beloved by MCU fans and critics alike and the third is no different, with director James Gunn deserving a standing ovation for his MCU encore.
However, despite the movie being Gunn’s last turn behind the camera for the MCU, and the added confirmation from the director that Volume 3 would be the Guardians last outing, the film itself left several loose-ends and countless possibilities for where the fan-favorite characters could return in the future. So, with all of the Guardians split...

It’s fitting that James Gunn’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” wraps up with Rocket’s origin story in the largest spaceship in MCU history: The Bowie, which debuted in “The Holiday Special.” According to the backstory, the massive, four-story craft was built by power tool expert Rocket (Bradley Cooper). “We always thought of it as the muscle car of spaceships,” production designer Beth Mickle told IndieWire.
In honor of Rocket, the Bowie ended up in the shape of a giant circular saw after initial sketches involved various power tool designs. The art department then built the Bowie’s interior as a series of interconnected sets (three stories high) with seven different areas on a 20,000-square-foot stage at Trilith Studios in Atlanta.
“We wanted the physical spaces to all be connected by these circular shapes, which we hadn’t seen much of before,” Mickle said. “And we staged...

A lot has already been said about Chris Pratt's historic use of the F-word in James Gunn's cosmic trilogy capper "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3." For the last decade or so, Pratt and his co-stars have been trying to get just one cuss word to make it into the final cut of the Marvel movies they've been a part of, and finally, the dream has been realized. As the only earthling, Peter Quill was perfectly suited to belt out our planet's favorite expletive, especially during a sequence that takes place on the High Evolutionary's experimental Counter-Earth. Out of any major MCU character, Star-Lord was the obvious choice to drop an F-bomb, save for maybe Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) who came oh so close to saying "Motherf******" when he gets dusted during the post-credit scene in "Avengers: Infinity War."
Usually, Star-Lord's funniest moments happen when he's...

Back in the dark days of July 2018, when writer-director James Gunn was fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after right-wing scoundrels unearthed old, wildly offensive jokes that Gunn had tweeted years earlier (and later removed and apologized for), there seemed to be little hope for either MCU fans or the core members of the cast that the Guardians trilogy would successfully stick the landing.
Perhaps the one slight consolation for the cast – if any – was that, according to the Hollywood Reporter, Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige had committed to still using Gunn’s script for Vol. 3, and in fact distributed it to the cast not long after Gunn was dismissed.
Now, five years later, long after Gunn was reinstated as director (and main creative visionary) of the now-completed film, actor Pom Klementieff – who plays the humanoid/alien empath Mantis – says that Gunn did make some adjustments to the script in the intervening period.

Fox will continue to go to the dogs, and cats, and other household and exotic animals.
The network has renewed its comedy series Animal Control, about a group of municipal animal control officers who work better with the creatures they handle than other humans. The show, starring Joel McHale, is Fox’s first wholly owned live-action comedy.
“We are thrilled our viewers have responded to Animal Control as much as we did,” said Michael Thorn, president scripted programming at Fox Entertainment. “The incredibly talented ensemble cast, led by Joel McHale, along with our creative team, Bob Fisher, Rob Greenberg, Dan Sterling and Tad Quill — not to mention a menagerie of wild animal method actors — have delivered a hilarious series that is sharp, witty, and warm, week after week.”
Animal Control has put up fairly modest on-air ratings, averaging a shade above 2.2 million viewers per episode over seven days of Nielsen-measured viewing.

The final track might’ve played on James Gunn’s time with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but rest assured, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 isn’t quite the end of the story. While series mainstays Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldaña, and Sean Gunn claim they’re also done, one lovable rogue is sticking around for more. Aside from Chris Pratt himself teasing Peter Quill’s return, Guardians of Galaxy Vol. 3 quite literally spells it out for us.
A cryptic post-credits teaser of “The Legendary Star-Lord will return” confirms the music-loving hero has at least one more MCU outing in his arsenal. Don’t expect Pratt to suddenly lead a Disney+ Star-Lord series next week, and remember, he’s already expressed an interest in joining Gunn in the DC Universe. As it’s simply a case of when Star-Lord will be blasting off again,...

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" is a farewell to the titular team. There's one character I'm particularly sad about saying goodbye to: Nebula (Karen Gillan), the grumpy alien cyborg anti-hero who wormed her way into my heart. At the beginning of this trilogy, I never would've guessed she'd end it as my favorite character of the ensemble. She's a pretty standard villain in the first "Guardians of the Galaxy" and couldn't stand out next to Lee Pace's enormous performance as Ronan the Accuser.
"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" redeemed Nebula in more ways than one. She not only turned from antagonist to teammate -- giving her more opportunities to bounce off the other characters -- the seeds of a deeper characterization from the film blossomed and she became a downright compelling character. Looking back at both...

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" brings the story of Peter, Gamora, Drax, Nebula, Groot, Rocket, and Mantis to a close, and it is fantastic. James Gunn makes his return to Marvel for one last ride, and makes the most of it with a movie full of big laughs (Adam Warlock is absolutely hilarious) and an even bigger heart.
This is a movie not for the faint of heart when it comes to its disturbing portrayal of animal abuse, but it's also one that gives us adorably heartbreaking moments straight out of Grant Morrison's graphic novel "We3." Also, this movie finally recognizes Rocket Raccoon as the heart and soul of the franchise.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" director James Gunn is a music connoisseur and personally selects the film's soundtracks. These needle drops blur the line of diegesis; Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) owns a Walkman (and later a Zune) and the songs in the first two movies are all from mixtapes gifted to him by his mother. "Guardians of the Galaxy" introduced us to the adult Quill by having him dance around the barren planet Morag, listening to "Come and Get Your Love" by Redbone — perfectly capturing both Star-Lord's space cowboy persona and the film's retro musical taste.
Speaking to Absolute Radio, Gunn said he picks songs not because they're his personal favorites but because they fit the movie. "Vol. 2" features "The Chain" by Fleetwood Mac, and the song's refrain of "keep us togethe," reflects the struggles of the Guardians to stay together despite their own flaws pushing them apart.

The force is strong with this one…Peter Quill may be best known for his mixtapes, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t have time for movies. Sure, we know the leader of the Guardians loves Footloose (and Earth’s “great hero” Kevin Bacon), but it’s probably less surprising to know he really digs Star Wars and Han Solo.
Asked by a fan whether or not Guardian’s Peter Quill would be a Star Wars fan, Pratt replied, “Of course he would have been…His entire life is based on emulating his pop culture icons and, of course, he would have been a huge fan of Star Wars. And I think Han Solo in particular would have been a large influence on who he ends up being. So yes, there’s certainly a lot of Han Solo in the character of Star-Lord.” Now there’s the crossover we need!

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" is the swan song for a crew we've loved since 2014. It's been a tough journey for these imperfect heroes, and the trailers let us know that their final ride will break our hearts. With this finale comes the departure of director James Gunn, who's off to work for the Distinguished Competition, a move that will spark a necessary fight for the betterment of both studios. Leaving with Gunn is our Drax, Dave Bautista, and Gamora, Zoe Saldana. Those are all huge changes for the MCU, but those won't be the only adjustments we'll see.
Changes to the MCU are good for its health, both on-screen and off. If there's one lesson that "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" teaches, it's that saying goodbye hurts, but it's also something we sometimes need to do for love.

This Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 article contains spoilers.
As the trilogy of Guardians movies comes to a close, you can rightly expect some emotional farewells and some tugs on the old heart strings. Superhero movies should also have heart, and just because this franchise features a gang of lovable misfits doesn’t mean it can’t tackle big issues. Quill’s dad, Ego, is a dick and his mum was killed when he was a boy. Gamora’s surrogate dad Thanos killed her and tortured her step sister Nebula. Drax’s wife and family were murdered by Ronan the Accuser. So these guys haven’t had easy lives, to say the least. But while it’s not a competition, if it was, Rocket Raccoon, voiced by Bradley Cooper, would win.

There may be no better example that shows what a chameleon actor Lee Pace is than his role as Ronan the Accuser in "Guardians of the Galaxy." Pace is virtually unrecognizable as the radicalized Kree enforcer, mostly thanks to the work done by makeup artist Lizzie Georgiou, who also helped finalize the looks for Yondu (Michael Rooker), The Collector (Benicio Del Toro), and the presumed leader (it's really Rocket) of the Guardians, Peter Quill (Chris Pratt). Without all the extensive makeup caked on, fans will know Pace as tech entrepreneur Joe MacMillan in AMC's "Halt and Catch Fire," and horror aficionados will remember him from Halina Reijn's housebound thriller "Bodies Bodies Bodies" from last year. Pace was also perfectly cast as the wise elf Thandruil in "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey."

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" has the customary mid and post-credits scenes for a movie set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They're thankfully free of any overt sequel teases and instead serve as epilogues for some of our main characters. The mid-credits scene has Rocket (Bradley Cooper) leading a new team of Guardians. The post-credits scene follows up on where the film left Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) before the credits rolled.
Taking some earlier advice from Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Peter decides to return to Earth and finally reunite with his grandfather, Jason (Gregg Henry). Jason has appeared twice before; in the original film's opening, he was present when Peter's mother/his daughter Meredith passed away. In "Vol. 2," he narrowly avoided being swallowed up by Ego's (Kurt Russell) expansion. The first "Guardians of the Galaxy" even had...

[This story contains spoilers for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.]
When the credits roll on James Gunn’s final installment in the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, the story isn’t finished yet. In typical Marvel fashion, there’s two end credits scenes — one of which hints at a future for the group, despite this being the end of the road for Gunn at Marvel as he settles into a head role at DC Studios.
With Vol. 3, Gunn puts Rocket (Bradley Cooper), the genetically engineered racoon genius with a snarky attitude, at the heart of the story. Although Rocket’s traumatic past has been hinted at over the course of the previous movies, Vol. 3 dives deep into his beginnings as an experiment created by the High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji). Critically injured at the start of the film, Rocket experiences flashbacks to his past, as the rest of the Guardians fight to save his life.

Ready for the farewell tour?
The marketing campaign for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” savvily cooked up by the Marvel Studios and Disney teams, has positioned it as the last hurrah for the team that formed in 2014 with the first “Guardians of the Galaxy” and who have endured for two sequels, appearances in both “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame,” as well as “Thor: Love and Thunder” and their very own seasonal celebration, 2022’s “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.” (They also have theme park attractions at Disney’s California Adventure in California and Epcot at Walt Disney World in Florida.)
Now that the final installment is here, we thought we’d break down what happens at the end of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” and its implications for the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe (or is it Multiverse?)

The latest in the series, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is ultimately more of the best elements of the formula that proved so successful in the previous entries in the series, even though it may be the third best film of the series.
In this installment in the saga of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and his friends must again rally together to save one of their own in an adventure that portends not only certain doom for the Guardians, but for the universe as well.
The production is once again helmed by writer/director James Gunn; and he delivers more of the entertaining Marvel filmmaking that the previous entries in the series have provided. Plot: Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and the rest of the Guardians unite to save Rocket after parts of his past resurface. They embark on a dangerous mission that threatens to tear the group apart once and for all.
Review: Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 is a movie that, for a while there, looked like it would never get made. While the first two films were super-sized hits and made a star out of Chris Pratt, writer-director James Gunn’s career went into a tailspin following the second film’s release. After some Tweets from his past resurfaced, Disney fired him, and had the cast not banded together to reinstate him; we might have never gotten a fitting end to this trilogy. Oh, how times have changed, with Gunn not only reinstated by Disney but also on his way to DC, where he just might become a Kevin Feige-esque figure in his own right.

It’s an obvious point to make, but allow us just to state it once again, for the record: Andy Dwyer from Parks And Recreation really glowed up, didn’t he? Since the first Guardians Of The Galaxy movie in 2014, Chris Pratt: devilishly handsome, able to channel righteous anger, and capable of big stunt-filled set-pieces just as much as he is comedic ones.
He’s the star of several blockbuster franchises, has a number of standout voice turns under his belt, and his filmography is littered with darker, more dramatic roles, too. But which is his best? Only one way to find out: dance off, bro. Read Empire’s list of Chris Pratt’s 10 best movies now:
10. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Genuinely good sequels are something the Jurassic Park movies have historically found harder to come by than triceratops eggs, but this genuinely good sequel, uh, found a way.

At long last, the climax of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" trilogy is here, and it's funny, tragic, brutal, and occasionally inconsistent. Most viewers won't have any problem with that. It's a sweeping story that sucks you in for one last big ride with a crew of fun-loving knuckleheads: Chris Pratt's Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Dave Bautista's Drax, Bradley Cooper's Rocket, Karen Gillan's Nebula, Pom Klementieff's Mantis, Zoe Saldana's Gamora, and Vin Diesel's Groot. (Kraglin and Cosmo mostly stay at home and participate minimally.)
Like every Marvel Cinematic Universe tale, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3" requires the viewer to take a few leaps of faith. You already know this isn't how outer space works, so there's no need to get into just how long space travel takes or how unlikely it is that so many...

The Guardians of the Galaxy ... no more? Well, in a manner of speaking, at least. Rumors of the demise of writer/director James Gunn's "bunch of a-holes" may have been exaggerated. Despite all the talk about delivering a definitive end to this iteration of the Guardians, leading many fans to assume that Chris Pratt's Peter Quill, Bradley Cooper's Rocket, or anyone else on the team would end up having their ticket punched in heartbreaking fashion, not a single one of the core group actually died. The lovable losers saved Rocket's life from the kill switch that the High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji) once implanted inside him, Will Poulter's Adam Warlock experienced a change of heart and saved Quill from an icy demise in the vacuum of space, and everyone received the send-off they deserved.

The Guardians of Galaxy are back for a third and final adventure. This time, instead of saving the Universe, they’re helping one of their own: Rocket Racoon.
The “Guardians” films have always been a bit more lighthearted than other Marvel Cinematic Universe films, given Star-Lord’s boyish charm, Mantis’ child-like innocence, and Drax’s odd sense of humor. But there are some scenes that might not be suitable for young audiences.

Nearly a decade ago, Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill traipsed along to Redbone across an alien world, and relative to all the previous MCU entries, there was something initially fresh about the encounter until the shine wore off, and other blockbuster fare picked up all the wrong lessons. Subsequent outings have retread the blend of screwball antics, pew pew lasers, and a retro soundtrack to bring us Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. It’s a Marvel entry surprisingly free of any ties to broader property outside of the first two volumes, but mired in the same bag of tricks with a bit more slime on it.
After a brief but alarming cold open depicting Rocket Raccoon’s surgical transformation from cute trash panda to wisecracking tech wiz, Vol. 3 brings us up to date with our ne’er do well heroes, finding Quill lovelorn over a version of Gamora who doesn’t remember him.

Zoe Saldana's Gamora has truly become a huge part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Heck, Thanos wouldn't have gotten his hands on the Soul Stone in "Avengers: Infinity War" if he hadn't sacrificed his beloved, adopted daughter to obtain it. Now, "Guardians of the Galaxy" trilogy director James Gunn has revealed that the MCU as we know it could've been quite different, as he nearly killed Gamora several years ago.
Speaking with ComicBook.com in anticipation of the release of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," Gunn explained that he originally planned to have Gamora die at the end of the "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," which would have led to a rather different, yet still emotional conclusion for Chris Pratt's Star-Lord. Here's what he had to say about it:
"Things always change and you never know. But Gamora almost died in 'Vol. 2.' I knew from the...

The motliest of all motley superhero crews is returning to the big screen this week. “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” hits theaters on Friday, May 5, in a long-awaited return to cinemas that fans have been clamoring for ever since the group’s brief cameo in “Thor: Love and Thunder.”
The movie finds Peter Quill still grappling with the loss of the Gamora he knew and loved, and the introduction of a Gamora from an alternate dimension. Despite his feelings, he must rally the team around him to protect one of their own. It’s a mission that could cause the Guardians to unravel completely if they don’t complete it successfully.
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” has thus far earned an 81% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, showing a nice bounce back from Marvel’s last cinematic release “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” which only pulled together a 47% approval rate from critics.

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” — the third and final installment in James Gunn’s spacefaring superhero saga — opens this Friday.
The first film introduced a band of rag-tag rebels, the Guardians, led by Star-Lord, who ended up playing a pivotal role in the Infinity Saga, largely due to Gamora’s ties to Thanos.
Now, if the last paragraph made total sense to you, you’re probably all set to watch “Vol 3.”
But if you need a refresher — or crash course — into the “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies and how they fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, read on. Here’s your viewing shortlist of shows and films — in chronological order — to stream on Disney+ in preparation for Vol. 3.

This post contains full spoilers for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
The trailers for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 have included everything you’d expect from a James Gunn movie, including unlikely but perfectly-chosen rock songs and plenty of antagonistic banter between its heroes. But all of the Guardians 3 trailers have included another, perhaps troubling, aspect: a dour tone. It’s not just that Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) is still recovering from the death of his beloved Gamora (Zoe Saldana), who has returned as a younger and decidedly more impatient person. It’s also that this is the final go-around for Gunn and this version of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Now, longtime superhero fans will tell you that death means nothing to superheroes. All of the Guardians have died in the comics at one time or another, and they’ve all come back to life. But things...

Zoe Saldaña’s Gamora may have technically been killed at the hands of Thanos in “Avengers: Infinity War,” but originally, it was supposed to be at the hand of James Gunn.
According to the “Guardians of the Galaxy” director, he had originally planned for her to die in the second movie of the trilogy.
Ahead of the release of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” which is set to be the final outing of the Guardians as we originally met them, Gunn told ComicBook.com that in the earliest iterations of the second film, Gamora would be the one to die, instead of Michael Rooker’s Yondu.
“I knew from the beginning Zoe only wanted to play the character for so many years, and she’s been very honest saying that she’s done [after this],” Gunn explained. “And so I was going to have her die. I thought she was the one...
