Exclusive: Dick Wolf’s groundbreaking 1990s cop drama New York Undercover is making a return.
NBCUniversal’s streaming platform Peacock is in negotiations for a new incarnation of New York Undercover, which is expected to receive a series commitment, we have learned. It hails from former The Chi showrunner Ayanna Floyd Davis, Dick Wolf and Universal Television where the company is based.
Written by Floyd Davis, the new series is described as re-examination of the original, reflecting the current times. It is picking up 20 years after the end of the original series that changed the face of TV cop dramas.
Floyd, who will serve as showrunner, executive produces with Wolf Entertainment’s Wolf, Peter Jankowski and Arthur Forney. Uni TV, part of Universal Studio Group, produces in association with Wolf Entertainment.

At the start of the year, Peacock closed a mega deal for the majority of Dick Wolf’s library including the Law & Order and Chicago franchises.
A month later, the uber producer signed a huge nine-figure deal spanning broadcast and streaming that will keep him at sibling Universal Television for at least five years.
So, it’s no surprise that NBCU’s streamer is looking to do originals with the New York-born creator.
Bill McGoldrick, President of Original Content at NBCU Entertainment Networks and Direct-to-Consumer, told Deadline that it is currently in conversations with Wolf about his first project for the streaming service, which launches nationwide on July 15.
“We definitely want to do something with Dick Wolf but we haven’t landed on a specific show yet,” he said.

Dick Wolf’s New York Undercover revival has failed to cop a series order at ABC. Producer Universal TV, however, intends to shop the pilot elsewhere, our sister site Deadline reports.
The original series, which was created by Wolf and The Shield Ep Kevin Arkadie, ran from 1994 to 1998 on Fox and starred Michael DeLorenzo and Malik Yoba as undercover detectives in New York City’s Fourth Precinct. Wolf serves as an executive producer on the revival, alongside Hand of God creator Ben Watkins, who wrote the script.
The revival picks up 20 years after the events of the original series and follows Det.

Luna Lauren Velez, one of the core cast members of the original 1990s Dick Wolf cop drama New York Undercover, is set to reprise her role as Nina Moreno in the series reboot, which has a pilot order at ABC. The project hails from Wolf, Hand of God creator Ben Watkins and director Anthony Hemingway.
Velez is joining another New York Undercover alum, star Malik Yoba, who will again play J.C. Williams like in the original series. In the follow-up, Williams is overseeing the NYC’s Fourth Precinct and the next generation of detectives. As for Moreno, she has retired as a detective but still has ties to the unit.

Malik Yoba, star of Dick Wolf’s 1990s series New York Undercover, has been tapped to star in the contemporary reboot of the cop drama, which has a pilot order at ABC. The project hails from Wolf, Hand of God creator Ben Watkins and director Anthony Hemingway.
Yoba will reprise his role as J.C. Williams from the original series. In the followup, Williams is now overseeing the unit and the next generation of detectives.
Yoba was at the heart of the original series. In addition to leading the cast, he was the only cast member to appear in all four seasons of the show’s run on Fox. We were introduced Malik Yoba as a Jamaican with a dream in the 1993 film, Cool Runnings and his roles have always challenged the norm, diversifying the face of television, like his ground-breaking role, J.C. Williams on New York Undercover (1994-1998). Yoba says, “We can’t keep talking about the opportunities we don’t have if we don’t work really hard to create our own luck,” and for the past 20 years he’s been carving his own path, as an actor, director and singer. Yoba has followed the excellent advice given to him by his father,”Build your own generator so when they turn off the power you still have light.”
Most recently, we’ve been watching Yoba in Syfy’s Alphas as Bill Harken, a former FBI agent turned Department of Defense field leader with hyper-adrenal powers. Last season Harken spent much of the season butting heads with Dr.

Actor Malik Yoba has set out to reprise his detective role in U.S. crime series "New York Undercover" in a modern remake of the 1990s show. The "Why Did I Get Married Too?" star's career kicked off with his co-starring role as Detective J.C. Williams on the hit police drama, which ran from 1994 to 1998.
And he's partnered with "Law & Order" writer Courtney Parker to bring the series back to the small screen. He says, "The show has been in syndication since '98. A few weeks ago, a writer named Courtney Parker... sent me a pilot script that she wrote. I can't give up too much information but what she wrote was incredible."
But before Yoba pitches the idea to network executives, he wants to make sure he still has loyal fans. He adds, "I started asking folks around the country to email me. We haven't pitched (the show yet...
