Two former Google employees, Paul McDonald and Ashwath Rajan, thought that their newest innovation would be the next big thing: unmanned five-foot-wide pantry boxes full of non-perishables called Bodegas. However, they are now facing a major backlash for their appropriation of a cherished Latino community tradition, the corner store. Yesterday, an article by Fast & Company, which quickly went viral, announced that the two Google veterans were bringing mom-and-pop convenience stores to an end with their invention.
“The vision here is much bigger than the box itself,” McDonald said. “Eventually, centralized shopping locations won’t be necessary, because there will be 100,000 Bodegas spread out,...

Hell hath no fury like a scorned bodega store patron. Two ex-Googlers are weathering such scorn on Wednesday after launching their “disruptive” new startup “Bodega” — which aims to replace the corner stores it takes its name from with “five-foot-wide pantry boxes filled with non-perishable items.” The pantry boxes are unmanned, and allow customers to open the container and grabs items using an app that’ll charge them when they’re finished. If it sounds like a glorified vending machine to you, you’re on the right track. Paul McDonald, one half of Bodega’s braintrust, isn’t worried about its...

Flying solo for the evening, Peter Facinelli headed over to the Hotel Café in Hollywood last night (June 10).
The “Loosies” hunk donned a camouflage trucker cap with a denim jacket and plaid shirt as he exited the venue after watching Paul McDonald and The Grand Magnolias perform live.
And though his role in the “Twilight Saga” took his career to a whole new level, Peter recently admitted that he nearly skipped the audition.
“I almost didn’t read for Twilight. My agent said, ‘Do you want to do a vampire movie?’ And I was like, ‘No.’ I was totally thinking blood and guts and bats in caves, like some kind of horror movie.”

"Once Upon a Time" has found its Captain Hook. According to TVLine, Colin O’Donoghue will play the Peter Pan villain in Season 2 of the ABC drama.
Look for O'Donoghue to appear in Season 2's fourth episode. It might be safe to assume the role will be recurring, considering Captain Hook was featured in the Season 2 trailer. O'Donoghue's other credits include "The Rite" and "The Tudors."
O'Donoghue's Captain Hook will be stylish and will posses some old-school manners, but he'll be just as conniving as viewers familiar with the classic character have come to know him. Other Season 2 guest stars include Jamie Chung as Mulan and Sarah Bolger as Princess Aurora.

The 24-year-old actress tied the knot with singer Paul McDonald last month but because of her promotional schedule for 'Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part I’ – in which she reprises her role as Rosalie Hale – they had little time alone together after their wedding.
She said: "Jackson [Rathbone, who plays Jasper Hale] was basically on my honeymoon. Paul and I got married and then had to leave a few days later for the international tour so [Jackson and I] were in Spain and Italy with Paul.”
Nikki praised 27-year-old Paul for his support during her stint promoting the film because the scale of what she had to do could be “overwhelming”.
She told Us Weekly magazine: "I think the 'Twilight’ promo stuff can be a bit overwhelming at times, so I'm really lucky that Paul is so supportive. It takes a special kind of personality to be able to go and do that with someone."

The 23-year-old actress recently finished shooting the 'Twilight Saga' movies and tied the knot with former 'American Idol' contestant Paul McDonald following a whirlwind romance, but she insists she isn't living a "fairytale" because she deserves her good fortune.
Nikki - who stars as Rosalie Hale in the movie series – told Manhattan magazine: "From finishing the 'Twilight' movies to meeting Paul and having our wedding, it's not like I'm living a fairytale, but when you work hard for things there's a nice payoff."
Nikki will appear in 'Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1' later this month, and she revealed her alter-ego is set to finally find common ground with Kristen Stewart's character Bella Swan on the subject of motherhood.
She added: “Bella gets pregnant against everyone’s wishes, and Rosalie’s life dream is to be a mother, so we find our one common platform with the baby...

Nikki Reed and Paul McDonald wed in a private ceremony earlier today. The couple were joined by 100 friends and family in Malibu where they exchanged vows. Nikki's rep released a message from the newlyweds saying, "We couldn't be happier! [We were] surrounded by our family and friends. We're so glad this day has come!" Nikki and Paul met in March at the Red Riding Hood premiere and then surprised fans when they announced their engagement at June's MTV Movie Awards. The timing of the nuptials comes just one month before Nikki sets out on her latest international media tour for Fall's highly anticipated blockbuster Breaking Dawn: Part I. Congrats to Nikki and Paul!

Plus, Nikki answers the other big question on everyone's mind: Will Rob & Kristen be attending? Nikki Reed's wedding to Paul McDonald is coming up soon, so when we saw her Oct. 4 at the launch of Ubisoft's Just Dance 3, we had to find out if the Breaking Dawn star got any inspiration for her big day from Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Bella's (Kristen Stewart) epic nuptials. "They had a beautiful wedding, but Paul and I are just not Edward and Bella," Nikki said with a laugh. "At all!" And even though Nikki said she "can't answer" whether or not Rob and Kristen will be attending her "probably small" wedding, she did admit to one thing: She already picked out her dress! Just don't expect her to reveal who designed it. "I haven't even told Paul yet," she said. "He is super traditional and wants to be surprised and all of that.

Los Angeles, Sep 19: A representative of actress Nikki Reid has denied reports that she and her fiance Paul Mcdonald have secretly tied the knot.
The 'Twilight' star became engaged to former 'American Idol' contestant McDonald earlier this year. Rumours of their wedding started after the couple were seen wearing matching gold bands on their ring fingers.
But Reed's spokesperson has dismissed the claims, saying the rings were simply a sign of their commitment to one another.

Is Nikki Reed already Mrs. McDonald?! Paparazzi spotted the Twilight chica out for a stroll recently with her quickie fiancé, Paul McDonald, and some très observant sleuthing revealed that the twosome were wearing matching gold bands on their ring fingers. Could the matching bling possibly be wedding bands? No, insists Camp Nikki! And if you bought into the elopement biz, then you're clearly out of the loop. This is Nikki Reed, after all. As we said, reps for the couple tell us that they are not married...yet, at least. This only confirms what we initially thought: There's no way Nikki is going to let her nuptials pass unnoticed. Heck, this is the same babe who...

From Alicia Silverstone and Liv Tyler in Aerosmith's "Crazy" to Megan Fox in Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie," many of Hollywood's elite actresses have taken time away from looking hot on the big screen to look hot in small screen music videos.
Last week, Kristen Stewart joined that list by appearing in the video for Marcus Foster's new single "I Was Broken." I could argue she only did it to keep up with the other previously named actresses.
But on closer inspection, it would appear she did it to keep up with her "Twilight" castmates, many of whom have moonlighted as shining stars in music videos.
Here they all are in one convenient musically diverse package. Sing along, tap your feet… it's about to get Twi-hot up in here.

Jackson Rathbone has been a busy guy these days between touring with his band, 100 Monkeys, and getting some acting in as well. Here Jackson talks to The Hollywood Reporter about his music, starting his own label and singing with Nikki Reed’s fiance, Paul McDonald. Read more after the jump:
THR: Having your music tie in, you probably pay close attention to the soundtrack of your movies. Could you tell me your favorite songs from the Twilight series?
Jr: You know, that would be really hard. It’s one of those things. I don’t run out and buy the soundtrack. I have seen the films and they are amazing with the songs in there. Radiohead, there is an amazing band the Twilight series has been able to garnish for their soundtrack, it’s all good music. The kind of music I listen to is very eclectic and out there, you got some Captain Beefheart, Man Man, or Frank Zapra. The kind of stuff that you know I really, if they put that on there, I might rush out and buy the album.
THR: If you had to choose one, I know this is a tough question, would it be music or acting?
Jr: I think I would just be a father then, in that case. If I had to make the choice between arts, I might just have to move back to Texas and just raise the family. I know I could never just do one.

For anyone like me -- unlucky enough to be stuck at home instead of going to San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend -- you have no doubt heard whispers about some of the fast and furious "Twilight" insanity that went down there.
Well, I've been glued to my computer, pressing refresh on my browser precisely ever 45 seconds (any sooner would just be weird and obessessive), looking for the latest updates.
While it cannot compare to actually being there, here, from my vantage point, are the top seven "Twilight-related" things that you and I missed at Comic-Con. Let's not let it happen again (hear me, NextMovie editors?).
1. Twi-Hards Get 6:30 a.m. Surprise
Fans began lining up to get into the "Twilight" Comic-Con panel as early as three days in advance. In related news, I began dropping to my knees and bowing in respect to those fans also three days in advance.

You would think that someone who announced her engagement on the red carpet would be thrilled to chit chat about any wedding planning that may (or may not) be under way. Uh, so not the case with Nikki Reed, Twilight's real-life femme fatale, who recently became engaged to singer Paul McDonald. But fear not, we're not going to rag on the Breaking Dawn babe...because this one is totally a PR problem. Guess what you'll hear if you ask N.R. about saying "I do?" "Don't even waste my time." Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder landed at Lax together last night. The duo are coming home from a vacation in France, which they went on when Nina wrapped work on The Perks of Being a Wallflower in Pittsburgh late last month. Nina will be back in front of the cameras soon though, when she and Ian get to work on The Vampire Diaries. The award show is in August, and perhaps the increasingly public twosome will hit the red carpet as a pair. The annual MuchMusic Video Awards were full of famous musical faces in Toronto tonight. The show's host, Selena Gomez, hit the red carpet in a skintight Burberry dress while her boyfriend and nominee Justin Bieber made his surprise arrival in a t-shirt featuring a picture of Saved by the Bell's Kelly Kapowski. Nikki Reed, who wore a strapless Ronald Abdala, and her fiancé Paul McDonald posed together, and Avril Lavigne made her entrance without her man Brody Jenner. Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder showed up hand in hand and also shared stage time. Inside the MuchMusic headquarters Selena ran the show in a skimpy backless outfit and later changed into a one-shoulder white number to perform with her band Selena Gomez and the Scene, who were also up for multiple awards. Justin picked up two honors after spending Saturday night partying with Usher, Paris Hilton, and Kim Kardashian for his manager Scooter Braun's birthday.

Things got a little heated and uncomfortable on Wednesday night's "American Idol." Haley Reinhart was criticized for her choice of "Earth Song" during the Inspirational Song portion of the evening, with judges Randy Jackson and Jennifer Lopez coming down fairly hard on her.
Haley responded with hurt and angry looks and arguments about why she chose the song she did and why she sang it the way she did. There was then another tense moment when host Ryan Seacrest asked the judges to declare a "winner" of Round 1 and Randy and J.Lo basically said everybody but Haley, to which she audibly responded, "Oh, that's nice." Was she out of line?
I don't think so and here's why. The judges have been riding Haley hard all season long. After Haley's second performance on "I (Who Have Nothing)," J.Lo said they ride her so hard because they know how great she can be.

Casey Abrams can breathe a sigh of relief -- he's safe this week on "American Idol." Instead, America decided to vote off 26-year-old Naima Adedapo and16-year-old Thia Megia.
It was Elton John week. Naima struggled with her reggae adaptation of "I'm Still Standing," while Thia did an impressive take on John's "Daniel," but didn't have enough support.

Casey Abrams will surely pull out all the stops after his near-elimination.

Last week on "American Idol," Jacob Lusk soared, while Casey Abrams collapsed, literally, falling into Ryan Seacrest's arms as the judges exercised their only save of the season to prevent the bearded fellow from going home.
Where does the show go from here? Will Lusk, who bounced back from a few dreadful performances to wow the crowd with Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell's "You're All I Need to Get By," be able to keep it up during Wednesday's (March 30) Elton John-themed evening? Can Abrams buck up after almost chucking up his dinner, following his sing-for-survival take on Ray Charles' "I Don't Need No Doctor"?
Those are just two of the questions we're kicking around as we head into the show. Here's what we're hoping to see from...

Looks like the Candy Land movie is jumping ahead a few green spaces: Universal confirms with EW that Kung Fu Panda writers Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger are set to write the adaptation of the popular board game, while Kevin Lima (Enchanted) is attached to direct the film. It’s tasty news for those of us who are not allergic to the idea of a board game on the big screen — though I understand a Candy Land film mostly gives studios the opportunity to profit off of merchandise in Target’s game aisle or at your local theater’s snack bar,...

This week's "American Idol" in 60 Seconds video recap, embedded below, deals with all the missed opportunities and crushing disappointments our nation faced while watching season 10's "Birth Year Songs" episode.
Casey Abrams' underwhelming "Smells Like a Bad Imitation" Nirvana cover hardly seemed worth the pomp and circumstance it received. The Nirvana on "Idol" seal has been broken, yes, but it was done in an unfortunately inept way. The only thing that would have been more misguided was Scotty McCreery warbling "Rape Me" with his signature smirk.
Instead, Scotty sang his first love song to any teenage girl who has a deep-voice fetish, while Haley Reinhart channeled Miss Yvonne's makeup meltdown with a deranged Whitney Houston cover that ended with Seacrest rubbing his saliva all over her face. (Haley's diabolical plan to steal Seacrest DNA worked.

Before we dive into this week's "American Idol" report card, we need to pause and award a special gold star to Steven Tyler, whose commentary on Wednesday night — replete with rhyming phrases, butchered metaphors and one instance of nonsensical, if oddly well-intentioned, racial profiling — keep us glued to the telly through some snooze-inducing performances. Who cares if his commendations didn't always line up with objective reality? We'd tune in any day of the week to hear the Aerosmith frontman suggest that one singer has a "sorcerer's grasp of melody" and highlight another singer's "ethnic what-it-is-ness."
Yet just as we hand out that gold star to Tyler — and plan to dole out a few more — there are far too many contestants who earned themselves some demerits on Wednesday.

Los Angeles — "American Idol" finalist Thia Megia could be gone with the wind come Thursday.
The breathy 16-year-old high school student from Mountain House, Calif., didn't dazzle the Fox talent competition's judges Wednesday with her rendition of Vanessa Williams' "Colors of the Wind" from Walt Disney's "Pocahontas."
Megia defended her choice on the evening of birth-year songs, but Steven Tyler questioned whether it defined her as an artist.
"I felt like I was at some pageant somewhere," blasted Randy Jackson.
Other wannabe divas also failed to impress. Jackson admitted he was still confused by Haley Reinhart, the 20-year-old college student from Wheeling, Ill., who pummeled Whitney Houston's "I'm Your Baby Tonight." Reinhart, a victim of a "lipstick massacre" during her performance, received her critique as "Idol" host Ryan Seacrest wiped a smudge off her chin.
"I feel like you're still a little tense in your body," Lopez told Reinhart.

Wednesday night, American Idol broke out the time-honored theme of “Songs From the Year You Were Born,” which is alternately known as “Excuses to Show Contestants’ Baby Photos” Week and also “Holy Crap, You Could Have Totally Changed That Singer’s Diaper!” Night. Song selections ranged from Nirvana to Whitney Houston (twice!), and from “I’m just gonna pretend that wasn’t the theme from Disney’s Pocahontas” to “Dude, Carrie and Allison sang it better, and as a matter of fact, so did Gina Glocksen.” And that was just the tip of the inscrutable iceberg.

It's that very special week of the year, when we collectively realize that "American Idol" contestants were born the same year we saw "Uncle Buck" at the Westbury Drive-In. It's the dreaded "Songs From the Year the Contestants Were Born" theme, or as I like to call it, "Producers Force Thia Megia to Sing a Song That Wasn't Written 100 Years Ago."
But this week "Idol" is also giving back. Portions of the proceeds from the studio recordings will go to helping the relief efforts in Japan. But really, the entire world benefits from watching Steven Tyler sing, "There's something wrong with the world today ... Oh, hi there. Let's talk natural disasters."
Before I point out that 75 percent of the season 10 contestants were born after "Mannequin" hit theaters, and 25 percent of them after "Mannequin 2: On the Move," let's rip right into the top 12's performances.

var brightcovevideoid = '831918390001'; For Wednesday's two-hour American Idol episode, the dozen finalists performed songs from their birth years. It might have been more exciting, and challenging, if the peg had been astrological signs. This season has the advantage of very good vocalists, but consistency has the relative disadvantage of not being as much fun. Remember Tatiana? I miss her sometimes. Then again, if you have five performances you can consider good, that's nothing to sneeze at. Best: Stefano Langone (1989), who's more emotional than necessary, sang "If You Don't Know Me by Now" at full throttle. "Over the top, over the top,...

The "American Idol" live show kicked off with a tastefully done little PSA for the relief effort for Japan. If you download any of the songs from tonight's show, the proceeds go to the Red Cross, plus there will be a way to donate during the results show tomorrow night. That's cool.
The judges come out and - hey, Carly Smithson is there! Loved her in Season 7. Steven Tyler is dressed especially gypsy-like, while J.Lo is a jungle cat with a mane of hair.

It was an evening of surprises on "American Idol" Wednesday night (March 16). From the first song by grunge icons Nirvana to a show-closing gospel throw-down on a tune by Heart, leading contenders Pia Toscano, Jacob Lusk and Casey Abrams continued their winning ways, while teen Lauren Alaina appeared to get back in the groove after an off week.

Los Angeles — "American Idol" opened the door this season for 15-year-olds to audition but none made it into the semifinals at that tender age.
For round-faced charmer Jacee Badeaux, 15, of Lafayette, La., that means the music stopped Thursday, although he earned a comforting hug from judge Jennifer Lopez.
The 24 contestants who advanced in the singing contest did include two teenagers who were 15 when they auditioned but have since reached sweet 16. Along with a few 17-year-olds, it was mostly singers in their early 20s who got the nod from Lopez, Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler.
California, New York, Tennessee and Louisiana are the states best represented among the two-dozen semifinalists, who are split evenly between males and females.
They won't have long to savor their achievement. Next week, only about half will make it to the finals after the men perform on Tuesday and the women on Wednesday. The results of...

I can’t remember a season of American Idol when I’ve been more pleased with the Top 24 contestants. Season 10 is going to go down in history as the best year yet!
After more than a month of auditions, the Top 24 contestants of American Idol season 10 were announced Feb. 24. (What a fitting date, right?) Outside of fan favorite Chris Medina, who was sadly cut the night before, there weren’t too many surprises with the big reveal — and honestly, I didn’t mind it one bit!
Thankfully, my three favorite youngsters — big voiced Lauren Alaina, country cutie Scotty McCreery and Charice-esque Thia Megia — all made the cut, so I was pleased as punch. Who else will be competing for our votes to make the Top 12? Here’s your official list:
Naima Adedapo, Haley Reinhart, Clint Jun Gamboa, Paul McDonald, Ashthon Jones, Karen Rodriguez, Robbie Rosen, Julie Zorrilla, Tim Halperin, Scotty McCreery,...

On Wednesday night, February 23, "American Idol" unveiled the first five semifinalists for season 10's Top 24, and ended with Jennifer Lopez's break-down following the elimination of Chris Medina. The show returned with less drama on Thursday night, February 24 to reveal the remaining 19 semifinalists.
After five minute break for Jennifer to get herself together, the judges were back on their seat to continue delivering good and bad news to the hopefuls waiting to learn about their fates. First to face them was Karen Rodriguez, who was met with a good news. She joins Naimi Adedepo, Ashthon Jones, Clint Jun Gamboa, Paul McDonald and Haley Reinhart in the Top 24.

Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez have selected the remaining 19 contestants who proceed to the Top 24 round of "American Idol". As expected, top runner Casey Abrams, is admitted into the group along with other favorites such as Lauren Alaina, Rachel Zevita, James Durbin and Scotty McCreery.
Meanwhile, walking away from the chance to be an idol were Colton Dixon and 15-year old Jacee Badeaux whose spot was given to curly-haired Brett Loewenstern. John Wayne Schulz was pitted against fellow country boy, McCreery, and he lost. Others saying goodbye were Tiwan Strong, Eryn Kelly, Jackie Wilson and Jessica Cunningham.
As for the Top 24, they would have to prepare themselves to impress the audience at home with their pipes. Starting next week, "Idol" will go live three nights in a row and the audience voting begins. The guys will perform first on Tuesday, followed by the girls on Wednesday and the finalists announcement on Thursday.

Good news for Jennifer Lopez! Eliminations are no longer hers to decide as American Idol locked up a Top 24, meaning it's up to the voters to whittle away the competition from now on. With Naimi Adedepo, Ashthon Jones, Clint Jun Gamboa, Paul McDonald and Haley Reinhart already having reached the promised land, another 19 hopefuls got the good news Thursday. With last night's surprise ouster of Chris Medina already in the past, did anything unexpected happen? Not so much, except for the fact that Fox went for the two-hour special instead of the one hour this amount of action deserved. After a whole minute of cliff-hanger concerning J.Lo's emotional state, she pulled herself...
