Think 2016 was a dumpster fire of awfulness? Imagine how terrible it could have been if we didn't have Beyoncé. All things considered, it wasn't too shabby a year for Miss Carter, as she is closing it out with nine Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year for Lemonade. As for the rest of her best moments, it's nearly impossible to wean down every single thing she did, but here are 17 of her biggest, best, most Beyoncé moments of the past 365 days, give or take.

The Golden Age of Piracy must come to an end in the latest trailer for Black Sails season 4.
Due to close the book on Starz’s swashbuckling drama on January 29, when the Treasure Island prequel series will be returning for a fourth and final 10-episode run, the sombre snippet sees our band of pirates waging war in the West Indies. The times, they are a-changing, and considering that the enticing synopsis for Black Sails season 4 portends bloodshed on the beaches of New Providence Island, long-time fans of the network’s pirate drama ought to strap in for what will surely be a thrilling conclusion.
A new threat is on the horizon, it seems, which forces Toby Stephens’ Captain Flint to spring into action. A former navy officer and London gentleman, the arc of Stephens’ bearded lead has been fascinating to watch pan out – chequered past and all – and those who...

The end is about to begin in the fourth and final season of the Starz series “Black Sails.” The prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel “Treasure Island” may be taking its last bow, but not before capturing a massive war in the West Indies between the British settlers and pirates. A new trailer for the drama debuted at New York Comic Con, which shows that the shores of New Providence have never been bloodier.
“Right now, good men are not what the moment requires,” the trailer intones. “Right now, the time calls for dark men to do dark things.” Sounds like a good time.
Blasting cannons and battling ships follow, with John Silver (Luke Arnold), Eleanor (Hannah New), and Captain Flint (Toby Stephens) preparing for war. Confirming that the series will end with a bang, Flint says, “We came here not just to expel England, but to defeat them.

The Starz pirate drama Black Sails is wrapping up with Season 4 next year, and it’s going out with a bang. Or, more accurately, a ka-boom!
The entire series, a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel Treasure Island, has been building up to a massive war in the West Indies between pirates and British settlers. And in the new trailer for the final season, which just debuted at New York Comic Con, we get all that and then some, with massive ship battles, cannonball blasts, and brutal hand-to-hand combat.

Black Sails, the Treasure Island prequel series that has enjoyed a relatively successful run on Starz, will pull into port for the final time on January 29, 2017 with the premiere of its fourth and final season.
As previously reported, the network is primed to close the book on the swashbuckling series early next year, purely because the creative team involved “couldn’t imagine anything beyond it that would make for a better ending to the story nor a more natural handoff to Treasure Island.” Such is the catch-22 with crafting prequel stories.
But don’t be fooled into thinking that the high seas drama will sail onto Starz in 2017 at half-mast – Black Sails season 4 will find our pirates doing battle in the West Indies, and it’s safe to assume that all involved will be gunning to send off the period piece on a high note, potentially even jostling for a...

After ringing in her 35th birthday last week, Beyoncé resumed the Us leg of her Formation World Tour in St. Louis on Saturday night and helped arrange one of the best onstage proposals we've seen in quite some time. During her performance of "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)," the singer cut the music and brought her choreographer and tour creative director, John Silver, to the stage. John, a St. Louis native, then introduced the crowd to his longtime girlfriend, Ashley Everett, who also happens to be Beyoncé's dance captain. What ensued was a romantic and hilarious onstage proposal. At one point, Beyoncé tried to join the couple too early in their celebration and embarrassingly backed away, and the best part is after her man put a ring on it, Ashley finished the "Single Ladies" choreography like a boss. Still wrapping my head around the incredible, magical moment that happened last night!

It would be seven years before his first solo album would appear, but after that he would be fairly prolific. "Outlander" author Diana Gabaldon, showrunner Ronald Moore and stars Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan were on hand to present a new trailer for the remaining eight episodes of the first season and to discuss what comes up in those episodes.
One place these episodes will definitely go is to a scene in the first book in which Claire (Balfe) is spanked by husband Jamie (Heughan). Balfe says they've already shot the scene which was well choreographed: "You have to look at it in the mind-frame of 1743... we just tried to give it the respect it deserved. When Netflix creator Ted Sarandos commissioned House Of Cards as the streaming site’s first project he used a very simple formula. Essentially he knew people liked The West Wing and Kevin Spacey, so figured a fusion of both would be a banker.

After an excellent episode last week, Black Sails picks up right where it left off. Following a beautifully-shot ship battle, Flint and his crew find themselves in a bit of a stalemate after boarding the ship they’ve attacked. Most of the action here takes place a night, giving the scenes an appropriately dark atmosphere as Gates tries to come up with some kind of plan to infiltrate the holding without getting his men killed. Meanwhile, Billy is becoming more and more skeptical of Flint’s intentions, creating both a physical and verbal tension in much of the episode. By the end, Billy winds up overboard, and though not seeing a dead body in an episode of television is a good indication that a character is still alive, it...

Much of Black Sails‘ first season has been methodical character-building, and while “V.” doesn’t let up on putting effort into constructing these people and their lives, its centerpiece is something the season has been needing since its opening moments – a battle on the open seas. This is a series about pirates, after all, and the payoff for waiting for a sequence like this is surprisingly effective. Just on the technical level, this is something that a lot of viewers will have been waiting to see. The strategy that Flint executes to get his ship in position to board another is the kind of risk-reward move that fits with the captain, who is constantly in danger of losing everything. Black Sails continues an upward trend after a sleepy pilot two weeks ago, and “III” contains some of the most promising material we’ve seen from the pirate drama. Last week’s episode (read the review here) saw development in several of the major characters, especially Luke Arnold’s John Silver and Tom Hopper’s Billy Bones – those characters continue to gain momentum and personality in the third installment, while Toby Stephens’s Captain Flint still operates behind a veil of mystery. Spoilers follow for the third episode “III.”
After committing the entire schedule of the Urca d’Lima to memory, John Silver showed this week that he’s one of the more cunning scoundrels on an island full of, well, cunning scoundrels. By refusing to give up the ultimate destination of the treasure-laden galleon, Flint and his crew are forced to take Silver along on their quest, ensuring...

That John Silver is a cheeky schemer, isn’t he? At this point in “Black Sails,” we can’t say for certain whether he’ll be a worthwhile addition to Captain Flynt’s crew, but at the very least Silver (Luke Arnold) has made sure that he’s more valuable to Flint (Toby Stephens) alive than dead. Last week’s pilot episode of the Starz pirate drama Black Sails left a lot to be desired (read the review here), but the second episode was marginally better and looked ahead to some promising points in the series as a whole. There are a good amount of characters vying for attention here, most of whom didn’t rise above the level of a cardboard cutout in the pilot. Things change, though, and an upward trend could mean great things for Black Sails. Spoilers follow for the second episode “II.”
Among the few points of interest from last week’s episode was Billy’s quick decision to lie about the contents of the page he held in his hands – he deemed it the page missing from the ledger attained by the crew at the start of the episode, the page containing the schedule for a Spanish galleon carrying a vast fortune in treasure.

Black Sails, Season 1: Episode 2 – “II.”
Written by Jonathan E. Steinberg & Robert Levine
Directed by Sam Miller
Airs Saturday nights at 9 on Starz
Following last week’s premiere of Black Sails, it was clear that the toughest obstacle the series was going to face in its first season was making such a large group of characters interesting enough that we have stakes in the landlocked portions of episodes. “II.” largely begins to address some of those concerns, and while there is still a lot of work to be done with central figures like John Silver and Charles Vane, the rest of the group members are starting to become much more recognizable as characters and not just people who are on the screen.
“II.” begins by focusing on what is currently the love story in Black Sails – the relationship between Hannah New’s Eleanor Guthrie and Jessica Parker Kennedy’s Max.

The race for the Spanish treasure heats up on "Black Sails" Saturday (Feb. 1), with John Silver running to and fro in Nassau trying to get a quick payday for the schedule that will point the way to the bounty to whomever will pay him.
It's Captain Flint and Jack Rackham who are pursuing Silver, with Rackham willing to pay 5000 pesos in pearls for the information. Charles Vane cautions Rackham at making such a hasty trade, but Calico Jack doesn't listen.
The original plan is for Silver and Max to make the deal for the log sheet and escape to Port Royal, but there's a problem -- Eleanor Guthrie gets excited about the tale Flint spins for her of cultivating Nassau by planting crops, arming the city against all comers and making a civilization instead of a pirate shanty town.
Eleanor demands the schedule from Max to give to Flint but...

The second episode of Starz’ pirate adventure Black Sails airs Feb. 1, but Aussie Luke Arnold, who plays John Silver, is already teasing the season 1 finale. “There’s one scene in it — it takes about 30 seconds, but we spent the whole night shooting it — it was just nuts,” he says of the eighth episode. “It was my favorite day of shooting anything, ever. This show is really physical, and not just for the actors but for the crew. Generally, we look like a pirate crew: we’ll be running up the sand, or jumping off ships, and the camera guys will be doing it as well.

Starz hasn’t really ever been a major player in the TV game, with Spartacus being the only real success the channel has ever had. They only started offering original programming in 2005, though, and so new shows like the pirate drama Black Sails can still be considered among the channel’s early forays into the medium. Executive produced by Michael Bay – which the posters and trailers make sure to highlight – Black Sails serves as a prequel of sorts to Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic Treasure Island. Spoilers follow for the pilot episode of the series, entitled simply “I.”, which aired in the Us on Saturday night.

In 2011, Fox gambled on Steven Spielberg's TV series Terra Nova, a big-budget show about time travel, dinosaurs and an elaborate parallel universe that only lasted three months. Now, executives at Starz, home to the violent and semi-clothed casts of Spartacus and Magic City, are teaming up with another Hollywood titan — Transformers director Michael Bay — hoping to bring cinema magic to viewers' homes.

Starz is setting sail with a new drama when "Black Sails" launches Saturday (Jan. 25).
The swashbuckling adventure combines real-life pirates from the 18th century, like Charles Vane (Zach McGowan), Calico John Rackham (Toby Schmitz) and Anne Bonny (Clara Paget) and characters from Robert Louis Stevenson's classic "Treasure Island," like Captain Flint (Toby Stephens) and John Silver (Luke Arnold), with new fictional characters like Nassau proprietor Eleanor Guthrie (Hannah New) and her right-hand man and woman, Mr. Scott (Hakeem Kae-Kazim) and Max (Jessica Parker Kennedy).
At first glance, the high seas adventure might appear to be more along the lines of former Starz program "Spartacus," which often seemed like a pornographic movie with fighting and a large budget. Like its predecessor, "Black Sails" does not shy away from violence and sex.
But four episodes in, "Black Sails" is actually spinning a cleverly-crafted tale of intrigue, secrets and deceit surrounding a...

There are high stakes on the high seas in Starz's new drama "Black Sails," and no one is more aware of that then Toby Stephen's Captain Flint.
In the new series, premiering Saturday night, Captain Flint is one of the most feared pirate captains based out of New Providence Island, in 1715.
But, in his quest to capture a once in a lifetime haul, he faces obstacles from grumbling crew members, rival pirate captains and the British Navy. And, there's something going on with a young John Silver (Luke Arnold) too.

"Black Sails" kicks off Saturday, Jan. 25 with a premiere episode that sets up a season-long race for a huge treasure, John Silver at the heart of it. Star Luke Arnold tells Zap2it at the 2014 TCA winter press tour that while Silver is quick with a smile, he's just as cutthroat as the other pirates.
"Silver's interesting. I think maybe because when we meet him in the beginning, he's not a pirate, he's a sailor, and he maybe doesn't appear as brutal as some of the other characters," says Arnold. "But he's just as ruthless as the rest of them. He's actually one of the first people on the show to take someone's life -- but he does it with a smile. I think that's the secret of Silver."
"No one here is a nefarious character, creating anarchy for no reason," Arnold continues. "It's all a survival situation. It's like a political thriller,...

Black Sails may be a prequel of sorts to the swashbuckling classic film Treasure Island, but there couldn’t be a larger dissonance in tone. Take that romanticized pirate mythology you grew up on as child and chuck it out of your memory. You won’t be seeing hooks for hands, mimicking parrots, wooden legs and whatever else fantasy pirate lore has accustomed your senses too. This isn’t your standard and traditional portrayal of pirates. Instead, Black Sails offers something far more violent, bloody, and savage that’s more in line with well, real pirates.
Set during the golden era of pirating, the series’ premiere lays the groundwork for the premise by introducing us to a slew of characters, grounded in both history and fiction. The golden age is currently under pressure as the Royal Navy begins cracking down on pirate export operations, and at the worst possible time,...

Michael Bay is blowing things up on the high seas in the Starz latest original series Black Sails. And even all the cord cutters online and others without a subscription to the premium cable television channel can feast their eyes on at least the first full episode thanks to an early premiere on YouTube by way of Machinima Prime. The program that’s executive produced by Bay and is the spiritual successor to Starz’s hit series Spartacus (at least until Caesar officially gets the greenlight) acts as a kind of prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island. It begins in 1715 to tell the tale of the “debauched paradise known as New Providence Island” and its visitors and inhabitants - including Captain Flint (Toby Stephens) and the uppity John Silver (Luke Arnold) - complete with lots of swearing (these are, of course, sailors), actors with gym memberships and sex appeal,...
