Exclusive: UK industry veterans Richard Kondal and Patrick Fischer, founders of financier Creativity Capital, have formed a new co-production company dubbed Big Safari.
The banner marks the latest edition to the duo’s portfolio, which also includes shareholdings in sales agent Architect, VFX house Koala FX as well as Creativity Capital.
Big Safari was born off the back of the Simon West-directed 2022 television series Boundless, which Kondal and Fischer produced while at Fulwell 73 with Mono Films and Amazon. The strategy for the new outfit, said the duo, is to set up co-productions that help close finance for international producers, whether through accessing soft money in European co-productions as they did for Svalta or finding a cost-effective co-producer further afield like they did with UK-Philippines co-production The Bayou. It will also look to help European films access UK talent and locations.

The Horror-on- Sea Festival is Southend’s annual horror event, which showcases the talents of Independent filmmakers, through shorts and features over two weekends. This is the 6th year it has been running and this is my review of the festivals second weekend
Day 1: Friday 26th January – Double Feature 19:00pm
Feature – Mortuary Massacre
When Detective Giger (Todd Brown) attends a mortuary regarding several mysterious deaths which occurred on Halloween night, the local Mortician (Carl Crew) describes the backstory of three of the victims. Christopher James Miller delivers an experimental horror film which has some surreal visual shots to get into the psyche of the characters. Utilising his experience in special effects, this is one for the gore hounds, with plenty of visual gore, which is delivered with plenty of tongue and cheek humour.
Short – Unto Death
In this powerful and moving gothic drama in which a priest begins...

Hollyoaks bosses have today cleared up confusion surrounding the fates of the soap's Sharpe family and Anita Roy. The four-member Sharpe clan - consisting of Gabby (Phina Oruche), Phil (Andonis Anthony), Taylor (Shaun Blackstock) and Amber (Lydia Lloyd-Henry) - were introduced to the show last summer as part of former producer Paul Marquess's rejuvenation of the programme. However, shortly before Christmas fans saw the family's storylines reach an abrupt end before they departed the village. Since then, the fallout of Amber's teen pregnancy plot has been resolved with the foursome remaining offscreen. A Hollyoaks spokesperson told Digital Spy today: "There are no immediate plans to bring the Sharpe family back into the show following their recent departure." Meanwhile, it has also been confirmed that next week's drama for Anita Roy (more)...

Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks this afternoon announced a raft of new signings as part of the show's overhaul. Former The Bill actress Kim Tiddy joins the cast as ex-model and headstrong mother Heidi, the matriarchal figurehead of the soap's new family - the Costellos. Heidi's former footballer husband Carl - played by The Chase actor Paul Opacic - arrives at the same time, along with their two children - ladies' man Riley (Rob Norbury) and his younger brother Seth (Miles Higson), who's desperate to prove himself to his parents. Meanwhile, as Digital Spy exclusively revealed last month, Phina Oruche joins as Gabby Sharpe, who finds herself in the village as she attempts to flee from her husband Phil (Andonis Anthony). Her escape is thrown into jeopardy, however, when she's knocked down and rescued by one of the show's regulars. (more)...
