A slate of candidates challenging Fran Drescher’s Unity ticket is beginning to take shape prior to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA election.
On Tuesday night a group labeling itself a coalition of independents announced that candidates including Rob Schneider (Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo), Elliott Gould (Ocean’s Eleven), Dr. Drew (Celebrity Rehab), Diane Ladd (Chinatown), Jamie Ann Allman (Candy), Louis Herthum (The Peripheral), Robert Davi (Die Hard), Brent Sexton (Justified), Michelle Jubilee (1923), DaJuan Johnson (Bosch) and Veronica Bruce (Empire) would all run as for seats on the SAG-AFTRA National Board.
Further, Sons of Anarchy and 9-1-1 star Rockmond Dunbar will run for the position of Los Angeles Local vice president as well. The group will join previously announced candidates Maya Gilbert-Dunbar (the Banshee actor who is married to Rockmond), running for union president, and Peter Antico (Outlaw Johnny Black), aiming for secretary-treasurer.

Amazon has cancelled Z: The Beginning Of Everything, starring Christina Ricci, after the series had previously been greenlit for a season 2.
The initial renewal was a bit of surprise, given the lack of buzz around the first season of the Zelda Fitzgerald series, but it's even more of a surprise when considering that the Z writers' room had already started meeting for season 2 and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, a reported $7 million had already been spent on a second season.
As the THR article notes, the renewal came shortly after the publishing of a Vox article on the apparent "sexist loophole" in Amazon Studios straight-to-series practices, while the subsequent cancellation comes in the wake of Amazon's rumoured decision to scale back its spending on original series heading into...

AMC has released a promo still for their upcoming small-screen take on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s ultra-violent (and seriously messed up in various other ways) comic series, Preacher, and it gives us a new look at Jesse Custer’s Irish vampire pal, Cassidy, which should make fans of the source material very happy indeed.
Aside from a few brief glimpses in the trailers, this is the first time we’ve seen Cassidy wearing his trademark shades, and flashing the equal-parts terrifying and hilarious grin he’s known for.
In addition, the network has announced that we’ll be getting all-new look at the show during the season 2 premiere of Fear The Walking Dead. Whether that’s a full trailer, TV promo or an actual clip remains to be seen, but we’re certainly excited.

Following a recent promo image of Ian Colleti as Eugene “Arseface” Root, AMC has released a short, but fairly revealing new teaser trailer for their upcoming adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s controversial ’90s comic series, Preacher. Young Arseface is glimpsed very briefly, but there’s plenty of other great and gruesome stuff in here to discuss.
For example, we see Cassidy the vampire (Joe Gilgun) covered in blood that we can only assume he took from the poor soul behind him in the shot. There’s also a glimpse of Ruth Negga as Tulip being viciously attacked in her car, and various shots of Dominic Cooper as the titular preacher, Jesse Custer, looking somewhat bemused. And who could blame him? As the voiceover reveals, “something got loose,” and evidently made its way to Custer’s quiet little Texas parish.

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s small-screen take on Garth Ennis’ controversial comic series, Preacher, will debut at this year’s South by Southwest film festival along with several other projects that have been added to the lineup. Along with this announcement, AMC has released a new image from the show, featuring Dominic Cooper as the Reverend Jesse Custer relaxing in church with a cigarette. If the show is anything like the comic, he’ll be doing a lot of that.
On that note, Rogen spoke at the Television Critics Association’s press tour in Pasadena, California, on Friday after a screening of the pilot episode, and admitted that the series will deviate quite a bit from the source material.

Following that briefest of teases the other day, AMC has premiered the first full trailer for Preacher, their small-screen take on the brilliantly bonkers comic series from Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon.
The trailer contains all of the intriguing flashes from that first teaser, but also gives us a much better idea of what to expect when the show debuts next year. In the footage shown here, we see a kid ask the reverend Jesse Custer to lay a beating on his abusive father, which leads to a little sermon about the futility of violence. We’ll be getting the very first trailer for Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s small-screen adaptation of Garth Ennis’ controversial comic series, Preacher, this Sunday night during an extended episode of The Walking Dead, and in anticipation of that, AMC has released a very brief teaser.
It all goes by in a matter of seconds, but if you slow things down you’ll see a few very interesting snippets of footage. Readers of the DC Vertigo comic will likely recognize what appears to be Jesse Custer falling from a plane, Irish Vampire Cassidy getting a little sun before indulging in a spot of murder, Custer’s congregation being engulfed in flames, and then the Texas preacher beating the crap out of some local yokels.

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s small-screen adaptation of Garth Ennis’ Preacher is set to air sometime next year, though no exact date has been announced. Thus far, we’ve had some set snaps and a promo poster (see above) to feast our eyes on, but not so much as an official character image – and yet the first trailer will be with us next week.
AMC has announced that we’ll see the very first footage from the show on November 1st during a special 90-minute long episode of The Walking Dead, which is expected to include a Morgan flashback. The network’s press release also includes a Preacher synopsis, and from the sounds of it, the basic premise of this take, at least, will be faithful to Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s source material.

Comedian and writer/director Seth Rogen, along with his writing partners Evan Goldberg and Sam Catlin, are behind AMC's upcoming TV series adaptation of the acclaimed Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon comic series "Preacher".
Filming on the series has been happening for some time now, and in a new interview with CraveOnline Rogen spoke about the necessity to adapt and chance some elements from the source material and if people will be annoyed by the changes:
"We are changing the specifics of how the narrative is unfolding. A lot of the building blocks we are not changing, a lot of characters we're keeping, but we want to make a show that if you're a fan of the comic, you don't know what to expect. And we have no interest honestly in just doing a literal page-to-page adaptation.
It just seems like the most boring creative endeavor one could go on!

Seth Rogen, along with co-writers Evan Goldberg and Sam Catlin, is hard at work getting ready to unveil his small-screen take on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s brilliant, but controversial comic series to the world, as Preacher will premiere on AMC next year.

While speaking to Crave Online, Rogen went into some detail regarding the adaptation process, and admits that although they’re staying as true as possible to the spirit of the comic, changes are inevitable, and some of the more graphic elements will be left out entirely.

Seth Rogen has revealed that his take on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s controversial DC Vertigo comic series, Preacher, has been given a series order at AMC, and he’s also posted the key art seen below to his Twitter page. Apparently, it’s a 10-episode order and the show is expected to launch mid-2016.
Rogen is developing Preacher for the small screen with Evan Goldberg, who directed the pilot, and Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad), who wrote the script and will serve as showrunner. The story follows a small-town Texan preacher named Jesse Custer who finds himself possessed by the spawn of a demon and an angel, which gives him incredible powers and an insight into God’s mindset. He teams up with his ex-girlfriend Tulip and a hard-drinking Irish Vampire named Cassidy to track down his maker and hold him accountable for abandoning his post in Heaven.

We’ve had several behind-the-scenes glimpses into the production of AMC’s small screen take on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s controversial comic series, Preacher, but this is our first proper look at some of the principal cast members, namely Joseph Gilgun and Ian Colleti, in wardrobe as their characters.
Gilgun (This Is England, Misfits, Pride) will play hard drinking Irish Vampire, Cassidy, and he does bear quite a resemblance to his comic book counterpart – minus his trademark sunglasses, that is. Colleti (Baby Mama, Rake), on the other hand, is Arseface: a troubled teen who attempts to commit suicide with a shotgun blast to the face. Somehow, he survives, but winds up with a mush that looks like… well, you caught his name, right?

From comic-book adaptations to sci-fi, fantasy and horror. Here are the new geek-skewed shows coming to Us TV in 2016...

Also appearing on the show are Ian Colletti as Arseface, Lucy Griffiths as Emily Woodrow, Elizabeth Perkins as Vyla Quinncannon and Jamie Anne Allman and Derek Wilson as Betsy and Donny Schenck. The new AMC series will mark the first successful adaptation of Preacher in a long line of failures. Garth Ennis wrote a script for a film adaptation back in 1998 but financial concerns and religious pressure put a halt on development. Miramax then purchased film rights for Preacher but never developed a working script and ultimately let the rights lapse. Next up, was HBO, who secured rights and brought in...

Deadline report that Jamie Anne Allman (The Killing) and Derek Wilson (Rectify) have joined the cast of AMC's small screen take on Preacher as Betsy and Donny Schenck -- two original creations just for the show. Betsy is described as “a meek wife who appears to suffer beatings by the hand of her husband, Donny,” while Donny is a “Civil War re-enactor and abusive thug who gets into altercations with Jesse Custer but nevertheless shows up to church on Sundays.” We've heard that this adaptation is going to differ significantly from the comic in that Jesse Custer will be spending a lot more time as a Preacher in Anville before setting out on his mission, and this would seem to confirm it as Wilson and Allman are down as series regulars -- and it's highly unlikely they'll be hitting the road with Jesse and his motley crew! They join Dominic Cooper...

Jamie Anne Allman ("The Killing") and Derek Wilson ("Rectify") have scored recurring roles on AMC's drama series "Preacher" based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s cult 1990s comic.
The story centers on Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), a conflicted preacher in a small Texas town who merges with a creature that has escaped from heaven and develops the ability to make anyone do anything he says.
Along with his ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Ruth Negga), and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun), the three embark on a journey to literally find God.
Allman will play Betsy Schenck, a meek wife who appears to suffer beatings by the hand of her Civil War re-enactor husband Donny (Wilson). When the Preacher checks up on her, though, she tells a different story.

Chicago – Evoking the civil rights melodramas of the ’60s, such as Guy Green’s wrenching “A Patch of Blue,” with a dash of Robert Benton’s 1979 masterpiece, “Kramer vs. Kramer,” Travis Fine’s “Any Day Now” shamelessly aims to tug at the heartstrings. And tug at them he does with considerable success, thanks in large part to the riveting, career-best performance delivered by Alan Cumming. It’s the sort of work that could’ve easily been honored with an Oscar nod, had Fox Searchlight or Harvey Weinstein picked it up.
Set in California circa 1979, the film centers on a gay couple struggling to care for a young boy who is in desperate need of a family. Though the couple desires to be considered as his parents, they find themselves in the same predicament as the distraught father figure in Patrick Wang’s 2011 masterpiece, “In the Family.” Yet whereas Wang’s...

Chicago – Travis Fine’s “Any Day Now” is an old-fashioned social problem film painted in the broadest of strokes. Fairly early on, the audience is faced with two choices: either resist the film’s assuredly tear-jerking formula or submit to it. Though some critics will always opt for the first choice, regardless of a film’s merits, I’m willing to praise a formula as long as it’s well-executed.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
At its best, Fine’s film appropriately evokes civil rights melodramas of the ’60s, such as Guy Green’s wrenching “A Patch of Blue,” with a dash of Robert Benton’s 1979 masterpiece, “Kramer vs. Kramer.” Fueling the fractured heart of “Any Day Now” is the love that two would-be parents feel for a young boy in desperate need of a family. The fact that the two “parents” are a gay couple unable to marry in America circa 1979 places a...

If you missed Alan Cumming as the Master of Ceremonies in Broadway.s Cabaret, you.ll have several chances to hear him sing in the gay indie soap opera Any Day Now. He sings a lot – complete songs – but it.s not a musical. The drama stops cold several times to let his ballads flesh out the half-baked script about the debate over gay adoption, the subject at the center of this well-meaning, if heavy-handed film. Set in the less-tolerant era of the late 1970.s, Any Day Now is about a custody battle involving Rudy (Cumming), a hapless drag queen, and Paul (Garret Dillahunt), a closeted city attorney, who haven.t been together long before they adopt 14-year old Marco (Isaac Leyva), a boy with Downs syndrome who’s been abandoned by his drug addicted mother (Jamie Anne Allman). The three form a happy little family but since this is the anti-gay .70s,...

There has been plenty of buzz surrounding Any Day Now, and all of it has been positive. The film is a heartwarming—no, heartwrenching—story about a gay couple fighting to adopt a Down syndrome boy that they've come to love as their own—set in the 1970s, no less. While this may sound like a politically-driven piece, it's very much a character-driven drama that merely has slight political leanings.
The story focuses on drag queen performer Rudy Donatello (Alan Cumming) who begins to look out for an abandoned boy with Down syndrome, Marco (Isaac Levya). The boy lives next door to Rudy with his drug addict mother (Jamie Anne Allman). When she gets arrested, Rudy begins his fight to look after the boy, wanting to give him a better life than what he'll get with Family Services. As Rudy tries to watch over Marco, he also begins dating closeted...

Title: Any Day Now Director: Travis Fine Starring: Alan Cumming, Garret Dillahunt, Isaac Leyva, Chris Mulkey, Frances Fisher, Kelli Williams, Mindy Sterling, Alan Rachins, Jamie Anne Allman A warmly captured, wonderfully sketched, 1970s period piece social-issue drama, “Any Day Now” tells the story of a gay Los Angeles couple fighting to at first legalize and then establish the permanence of their adoption of a neglected teenager with Down Syndrome. Engaging performances and a beguiling, unfussy technique anchor this big-hearted tearjerker, which cycles through some familiar territory but also deftly and movingly sidesteps conventional wisdom about where this tale may end up. "The Killing" may be getting revived ... and we'd have Netflix to blame or thank, depending on how you feel about the AMC series.
According to Deadline, "The Killing" will get a third season, thanks to a reported deal AMC is working on with Netflix. AMC did not renew the controversial series that upset viewers with its Season 1 cliffhanger, but the deal would bring "The Killing" back for a Season 3 with tandem Netflix streaming and airing on AMC, Deadline reports. Reps for both AMC and Netflix would not comment to HuffPost TV at this time.
