Exclusive: Hostile Planet producer Plimsoll Productions has posted a 65% increase in sales to almost $70M (£50M) over the past year, defying the impact of the pandemic in the natural history space.
Deadline understands the firm’s Ebitda has also nearly doubled to around the $14M (£10M) for the year to 31 August 2021.
Bristol-based Plimsoll was acquired by UK private equity firm Ldc in 2019 in a deal that valued the producer at around $110M (£80M).
As production in the booming natural history space was hit by the financial and logistical impacts of Covid-19, Plimsoll saw the likes of Apple TV+’s Tiny World and ABC’s Women of 9/11 released, while tying with ITV on the UK network’s return to natural history.
Grant Mansfield’s outfit also acquired Andrea Jackson’s distributor Magnify Media.
The company therefore posted a sales increase of around 65% to almost hit the $70M (£50M) mark, according to Ldc.

Magnify Media Secures European Options for ‘Naked Beach’ Format
Magnify Media has secured a raft of European production options on its new format “Naked Beach” ahead of transmission of the U.K. version of the show. The U.K.-based distribution and rights-management company has optioned the format to Keshet International’s Tresor Produktions in Germany, Vincent TV Producties for Holland and Flemish-speaking Belgium, and to Pernel Media in France.
“Naked Beach,” which was produced by Argonon’s Barefaced TV for Channel 4, debuts Thursday in the U.K. It is hosted by Dr. Keon West, whose 2017 studies into body image, self-esteem and life satisfaction formed the basis for the show, and body-image and mental-health campaigner Natasha Devon. The pair run a sun-soaked retreat where each week three people suffering from a lack of body confidence join a returning cast of near-naked, body-positive Brits of varying shapes and sizes in order to renew their self-confidence.

London -- London-based distributor Drg International Tuesday announced a landmark pact with Canadian broadcaster CBC under which Drg will distribute CBC's formats globally and allocate a significant development fund to back early stage investments in CBC's format slate.
Drg will kick off the partnership with existing CBC's existing formats portfolio including "Next Great Leader," a factual entertainment format that sees political hopefuls judged by four former national leaders and viewers, which ran for three series on CBC and which was recently acquired for a second series by Bnt in Bulgaria and Zdf in Germany as well as in the Ukraine, where a series will be produced by Trevano for Psb.
The two-year deal will also encompass brand new titles including formats created through a "substantial" but undisclosed development fund which Drg has assigned for investment in CBC formats.
