Beginning in 1816, his Conley ancestors had settled the western American frontier for the next hundred years until the end of the Word War I. As the western frontier shifted from Alabama to Kansas, North Dakota, New Mexico, Wyoming and Montana, family members were there as each territory achieved statehood.
