There is a moment toward the end of "Theater Camp" where one of the campers says that being at camp has helped him accept that he's straight. His two gay dads tell him they always knew and still support him. Of course this is a joke, a parody of the more common moment where a kid has to come out to his parents as gay. But the essence of "Theater Camp" - and why it's probably my favorite queer film of the year - is in that moment. "Theater Camp" effortlessly and immediately creates a queer world, where no one - no matter their age - has to explain or defend themselves. It's a vision of a queer future.
Let's back up. The new movie, directed by Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman from a script written by them, Ben Platt, and Noah Galvin, transports you to camp AdirondACTS, which is...

Comedy is exceedingly difficult to pull off theatrically in the streaming age, but Searchlight Pictures is giving it the ol' college try this summer with the original comedy "Theater Camp." The good news? It looks absolutely hilarious and has been met with rave reviews coming out of film festivals such as Sundance (read our review here). Now, a trailer has arrived online, which will help give the moviegoing masses an idea of what to expect. If this is anything to go on, expect something endearing and funny.
The film hails from Nick Lieberman and Molly Gordon, who you may recognize from movies like "Booksmart" and "Good Boys." They are directing here, with Gordon also starring alongside Ben Platt ("Dear Evan Hansen"). While they may not be overly experienced feature directors, it looks like they didn't miss a beat in bringing this story to life. But enough talk, let's roll the footage.

There’s nothing that sings summer like (theater) camp.
Molly Gordon’s directorial debut “Theater Camp,” which she co-helmed with Nick Lieberman, draws upon the beloved chaos of theater camp days lore. The film debuted at 2023 Sundance and boasts an impressive ensemble cast including Amy Sedaris and “The Bear” breakout Ayo Edebiri, with Tony winner Ben Platt co-writing the script and starring in a lead role opposite Gordon.
The official synopsis for “Theater Camp” reads: Tony Award winner Ben Platt and Molly Gordon star in the original comedy as Amos and Rebecca-Diane, lifelong best friends and drama instructors at a rundown camp in upstate New York. When clueless tech-bro Troy (Jimmy Tatro) arrives to run the property (into the ground), Amos, Rebecca-Diane, and production manager Glenn (Noah Galvin) band together with the staff and students, staging a masterpiece to keep their beloved summer camp afloat.

Could “The Baby-Sitters Club” be making a comeback? The series was canceled by Netflix after two seasons earlier this year in March, and talk has swirled since about the series being shopped for a revival — or at least a TV movie — elsewhere.
But now there’s a bit more momentum for the show: “The Baby-Sitters Club” won two awards at the Children & Family Emmys this weekend, for both outstanding writing for a live action preschool or children’s program and outstanding children’s or family viewing series.

Or if we could do maybe like a movie, like kind of a wrap up special,” executive producer Rachel Shukert told Variety. “The girls obviously are older now than they were when we started and they’ve really grown up. Martin about, well, a club of babysitters — saw its second season drop on Monday, offering a welcome shelter from the storm for any viewers feeling overwhelmed and overworked by the never-ending slog that is 2021.

This was a letdown.
Avid fans of the Baby-Sitters Club had been waiting for Richard and Sharon to get engaged and Mary Anne and Dawn to become stepsisters.
We were sure it was going to happen when the titles for Season 2 were released but found out in The Baby-Sitters Club Season 2 Episode 5, we were wrong.
Let's dissect what really happened in this version. At least, they touched on the girls' eagerness to become stepsisters and focused on Mary Anne's own romantic relationship with Logan.
This is the first episode we've seen the new Dawn (Kyndra Sanchez) and Mary Anne have any meaningful scenes.

The Baby-Sitters Club is officially back in business.
A lot has changed since we last saw them at Camp Mohawk last season
The Baby-Sitters Club Season 2 Episode 1 caught us up to date and introduced us to Season 2's new way of storytelling. While Season 1 of The Baby-Sitters Club followed the books more closely, Season 2 follows them loosely often picking a theme and focusing on that.
These Season 2 episodes still features the heart of the series, but if you're a diehard fan of the books, you will notice differences. Let's discuss the changes Kristy and her friends have dealt with.
In "Kristy and the Snobs," the episode stayed fairly close to the book. Kristy struggled with belonging in her new family and rich neighborhood. David Michael still loses his beloved dog, Louie. As a dog lover, that storyline makes me cry.
Many kids struggle with a parent getting remarried, especially if they have to move.

The Baby-Sitters Club is back in business. But of course, even good things have to change sometimes, so season two of the Netflix hit will feature a few new additions to the club we came to know and love in season one. A new trailer gives a first glimpse at some of those changes, including the previously announced brand-new Dawn. Xochitl Gomez, who played the Stoneybrook newbie in the first season, was unable to reprise her role after being cast in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Dawn is now played by Kyndra Sanchez, who can be seen briefly in the trailer. The club also has two new members, as business is apparently booming. Vivian Watson joins the fray as Mallory Pike, and Anais Lee...

Netflix announced the second season of “The Baby-Sitters Club” will premiere on Oct. 11.
“The Baby-Sitters Club,” based on the best-selling book series of the same name by Ann M. Martin, follows a group of friends as they start a baby-sitting business in Stoneybrook, Conn. As they juggle their new responsibilities as local caregivers, they also face friendship challenges with each other, various pressures from their home lives and unique situations that include diabetes (for Stacey), an absentee father (for Kristy) and parents who are dating each other (for Mary Ann and Dawn).
“In Season 2, we really get to see a maturation of the club and of the girls,” said creator and showrunner Rachel Shukert in a statement. “There are two new members [and] they’re all a year older and have more experience running a business, deeper friendships and are growing into a deeper understanding of themselves as people.

All babysitters know you shouldn't cry over spilled milk, and that logic applies to another situation as well - when one of your favorite actresses leaves one of your favorite shows. Xochitl Gomez, who played Dawn in season one of The Baby-Sitters Club on Netflix, is officially leaving the show! But don't worry, she will still be on the screen. Instead of keeping kids safe, she'll be keeping people safe as a superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
Gomez will be playing America Chavez, aka Miss America, in the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness alongside Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong), Rachel McAdams (Christine Palmer), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Mordo), and Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff). Since the two are filming at the same time, Gomez decided to step down from her role as Dawn in order to focus on her debut as a superhero.

The Baby-Sitters Club will look just a little different when it returns for season two. Netflix announced on Thursday, March 18 that one of the members of the iconic club has had to be recast, but only for the best of reasons. Apparently, Xochitl Gomez got a "cool new job" that keeps her from returning to the Netflix series, so a new Dawn had to be found. Kyndra Sanchez has been cast in the role for season two, and you can even watch her get the news in a very cute video shared by the Netflix Queue Twitter account. Sanchez appeared in Netflix's Finding Ohana and has lent her voice to a few shows, but this will be her biggest role yet. In season one, we met Dawn when she moved to...

The pic marks Peahu and Aiono’s acting debuts and sources tell Variety it was very important for Netflix to find a cast of predominantly Hawaiian / Pacific Islander, even if it met find a lot of newcomers for the large ensemble.
