In light of Sinead O’Connor’s death, Morrissey has published an impassioned blog post criticizing what he views as disingenuous tributes to the singer, who died Wednesday at the age of 56. The statement, shared through his official website, positions the reactions to the musician’s death as hypocritical copouts, reading: “She had proud vulnerability … and there is a certain music industry hatred for singers who don’t ‘fit in’ (this I know only too well), and they are never praised until death – when, finally, they can’t answer back.”

Sunday marks Bono’s 60th birthday, and to celebrate the U2 singer has unveiled his “60 Songs That Saved My Life” playlist.
“These are some of the songs that saved my life,’ Bono wrote of the playlist. “The ones I couldn’t have lived without… the ones that got me from there to here, zero to 60… through all the scrapes, all manner of nuisance, from the serious to the silly… and the joy, mostly joy.'”

Launched in 2010, Luther has fast become one of the BBC's most popular crime series with Idris Elba in the title role as a dedicated but obsessive police officer. With its mysterious theme, Paradise Circus by Massive Attack opening each episode the series also utilises a play-out track that fits the atmosphere of the story. This release features many of these outstanding songs including music from Robert Plant, Suede, Marilyn Manson, and Nina Simone. Composer Paul Englishby provides the score for the series with music that can range from darkly menacing soundscapes to elegiac dreaminess. His career spans film, TV, theatre, dance and concert hall. He received an Emmy Award for his adroit jazz score to David Hare's TV production Page Eight (also Ivor Novello Award nominated). He also...

Mayfield Depot, Manchester
It's an irony, given his obsession with our surveillance culture, that if you were to cast the voice of Orwell's Big Brother, Adam Curtis would be hard to beat. The BBC documentary-maker – justly celebrated for series that include The Century of the Self, The Power of Nightmares and All Watched Over By Machines of Loving Grace – speaks with such paternal conviction, such stylish wisdom, that given half a day in a film archive you suspect he could have you believe pretty much anything. This Manchester international festival collaboration with Bristol-based trip-hop pioneers Massive Attack is billed as a playful showdown, a versus, in the manner of a rap contest or a prize fight; the vast derelict train depot in which this battle is being staged over 10 nights offers a suitably raw-boned backdrop for the high-decibel stand-off – earplugs are given out at the door – but it quickly becomes...

These past few months, I've grown weary trying to find albums that engage me from start to finish. In fact, I've yet to find one album in the past few months I can listen to top to bottom. I truly believe that we are back in the land of "singles." Not saying that a Blood on the Tracks, Dark Side of the Moon, Ok Computer, or (What's The Story) Morning Glory? isn't lurking in the shadows, but.... I'm old enough to have bought 45s back in the '60s when I was a young pup; my first was The Beatles' "Rain"/"Paperback Writer." In the land of digital, I'm happy to download one song from some new noteworthy act and let it fall into my enormous random shuffle playlist (over 8,700 songs and counting). And that "single" is not always the band or label's choice; in the age of iTunes, we...

As series three of Neil Cross' Luther, starring Idris Elba, is poised to arrive on BBC One, Tom tells us why it well deserves our time...
This feature contains plot overviews but no real spoilers for Luther series one and two.
You might have seen the adverts on telly – the BBC’s Luther is back. The cult series returns to our screens in July, but the first two series may well have passed many people by. Writer Neil Cross will have recently appeared on the geek radar of some people for the first time, having penned two episodes of the seventh series of Doctor Who - The Rings of Akhaten and Hide. He's been around a little while though.

This Monday, A&E's sun and sin-soaked The Glades kicks off its fourth season and star Jordan Wall (who plays the overzealous Daniel Green) assembled an exclusive playlist for ETonline!
Although the show's setting plays host to a whole lotta murders, in reality, we still dream of visiting Florida's Glades!
Jordan Wall's Gotta Getaway Playlist
1. When I Come Around - Green Day
Favorite song by my favorite band. It was the first music video I ever saw, really welcoming me into the whole MTV generation. The repetitive riff in the track is so simple, yet so intoxicating, reeling you right in within the opening seconds.
2. Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth with Money in My Hand - Primitive Radio Gods
The perfect blend of melody and lyric, which never fails to affect me on some level no matter how many times I listen to it. It is the ultimate example of music and poetry being linked...

Anyone can tell you who's already made it, but HuffPost Arts & Culture's On Our Radar series is here to tell you who's about to blow up -- and, in some cases, go pop.
Deer Tracks, the self-professed "Northern light electronica duo" from Sweden," is set to release the third installment of their three-part album series, "The Archer," this week. Equal parts uptempo dance beats and folksy lyrical runs, the band is led by the soft vocals of Elin Lindfors and the thrashing guitar riffs and percussive backings of David Lehnberg. Think "The Knives" meets "The Weepies," with a clever, monochromatic visual aesthetic that makes the two musician's appearances just as striking as their music.
We had the chance to speak with Elin and David before the premiere of the "The Archer: Pt.3." Here's what the Swedish bandmates had to say about their obsessions with hula hoops, their early love for...

Ready to take a break from all the E3 news that's been filling up our pages and relax with some new music? Then check out this post-apocalyptic music video for "Shadow," a song off Bleeding Edge, the sophomore album from horror actress Jon Mack's prog rock band Auradrone.
Mack (Mandrake, Saw VI, Spiders 3D) has teamed up with Robert Lasardo (The Professional, "Nip/Tuck") and Brian Krause (Camel Spiders, Tbk: The Toolbox Murders 2, "Charmed") for this dystopian video about a struggle between alien hybrids and humans. It was written and directed by Dan Zacharias and produced by Zacharias and Mack.
A collective music and multi-media project led by Los Angeles artist Mack, Auradrone combines electronic sounds with live instrumentation, resulting in ultramodern post-rock dance music that is gritty, sensuous, and sophisticated. Bleeding Edge features the collaboration of Mack (vox, electronics, guitar), Strasbourg France’s Fred Traverso (electronics), and Christopher Fudurich (electronics,...

Does the success of Trent Reznor, Clint Mansell and Mark Mothersbaugh suggest that the days of the orchestral soundtrack are numbered?
Two words said it all. Moments after winning a Golden Globe for his score for The Social Network last year, Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor tweeted "Holy shit!" Industrial rock singers aren't in the habit of winning Golden Globes for film scores, and certainly not their first one. But the landscape has changed in recent years – and is still doing so, fast. Two cinema releases this week alone have had their scores composed by singers: Sigur Rós' Jónsi has done the honours on Cameron Crowe's We Bought A Zoo, while Devo frontman Mark Mothersbaugh is responsible for 21 Jump Street.
This is not an entirely new phenomenon: notably, Dire Straits' Mark Knopfler hit big with 1983's Local Hero, and Tim Burton changed Danny Elfman's life...

2011 seemed to be a banner year for electro-driven scores, with folks like Trent Reznor ("The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo"), Cliff Martinez ("Drive" and "Contagion"), Basement Jaxx ("Attack The Block") and Mr. Oizo ("Rubber") all delivering solid work. But perhaps the most memorable of them all was The Chemical Brothers score for Joe Wright's assassin tale "Hanna." Well, the good news is the duo are back to deliver some serious beats for another promising project.
Sources close to the film have confirmed with The Playlist that The Chemical Brothers will score Louis Leterrier's upcoming high concept heist picture, "Now You See Me." The film, which is currently in front of cameras, features a promising ensemble -- Mark Ruffalo, Jesse Eisenberg, Morgan Freeman, Isla Fisher, Melanie Laurent, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco and Common -- in the story about an FBI squad caught up in a game of cat-and-mouse against...

After a successful career as a film composer, having co-scored a bass-heavy, thumping background for Resident Evil: Afterlife and something more foreboding for True Blood TV promos, where was Filip Mitrovic to go as a musician? He decided to create an act known as The Elkcloner (in reference to a computer virus of olde), and created a sound based entirely on live recordings. He cites the likes of Tom Waits, Angelo Badalamenti, Massive Attack, Bartok, Portishead, Bjork and Miles Davis as his inspiration, and after listening to just one of his tracks, it's immediately apparent why. Like Tom Waits and Bjork, he defies typical melodic structure with light, airy vocals that seem to drift over the meandering but Massive Attack-esque rhythmic bass line. Though he only has one video done so far, for "Crossfire", it's a remarkably painstaking creative endeavor comprised entirely of stop-motion cassettes and cases creating patterns,...

"Twenty years ago," blogs the New Yorker's Sasha Frere-Jones today, "I spent an afternoon shuffling around Rocks In Your Head, a record store that once did business on Prince Street. (It closed in 2006.) My friend Jim worked the counter, and we were listening to a new album, over and over: Nirvana's Nevermind. At some point, Vernon Reid — the guitar player and founder of Living Colour — came in. He listened to four songs, nodded approvingly, and approached the counter. 'Metallica plus R.E.M. That's really smart.' He bought a copy and left."
Michael Stipe, Peter Buck and Mike Mills, who formally announced the amicable dissolution of R.E.M. yesterday, will surely be hoping their band will be remembered as more than half the formula for another band ten years their junior (and, for what it's worth, I personally believe they will be), but if this anecdote is the first...

Here's the first trailer for London Boulevard, the directorial debut of Academy Award winning scribe William Monahan (The Departed). Colin Ferrell plays Mitchell, a man fresh out of prison who falls for a reclusive movie star (Keira Knightley). He quickly finds himself under the gun of a ruthless gangster (the always good Ray Winstone) and lots of badass dialogue is exchanged.
The trailer begins with a lot of tired accoutrement we've seen in British gangster films countless times: title cards introducing "the ex-con," "the girl" and "the boss." Electronic music ala The Herbaliser or Massive Attack. And the old "I'm finished with my detrimental life of crime" speech. By the end though, it looks like a crime drama with potential and some seriously sharp dialogue. Monahan also wrote Body of Lies, Kingdom of Heaven, and Edge of Darkness.
The cast also features David Thewlis and Stephen Graham.

Our sneak peek of Universal’s recent releases continues with season six of the Fox medical drama House. Let’s take a look inside the next volume of happenings at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital…
The Show
I’ll admit that when it first started, I was a big fan of House. Midway through the first season, I was introduced to it by a friend and followed it all the way through season two. However, by mid-season three, the show had rubbed me the wrong way one too many times, and I bid adieu. I haven’t watched it since. When I got the chance to review this season, I wondered: had it changed? Was House still so insufferable that I could no longer root for him as the show’s protagonist? Was the show still having all the major female characters fall over him? Was it still carrying the soapy plotlines...

Nicki Minaj is steadily building a rep as one of hip-hop's most unpredictable artists with her ever-changing Day-Glo hair colors and collaborations with everyone from Robin Thicke to Mariah Carey to Ludacris.
With the buzz about the "Massive Attack" Mc's upcoming debut album heating up, fans are on the lookout for who the Young Money Barbie may work with next. As one of the biggest stars to come out of Queens in recent years, a collabo with Southside titan 50 Cent might be a logical step. Lil Wayne's "Knockout" music video which has cameo from Nicki Minaj is available for sneak peek. It features the two Young Money rappers in the pink locker room with Weezy wooing the female Mc with his lines, "Hey, Barbie! Are you into black men? / Hey, Barbie! I can be your black Ken?"
Beside featuring the "Massive Attack" rapper, the music video will also see Birdman making a brief appearance. It is directed by Jeffrey Panzer along with Weezy and was shot in Miami during a filming marathon for a dozen of videos before Weezy went to jail for a weapon-possession charge.
"Knockout" is taken from Lil Wayne's rock-themed album "Rebirth". The music video is scheduled to be premiered by MTV Jam this weekend along with "Da Da Da", "Get a Life" and "Runnin" clips.

Nicki Minaj's "Massive Attack" producer Alex Da Kid — who has also worked with Rihanna, Rob Thomas, Jazmine Sullivan and B.o.B — said you can expect more collaborations between him and the Young Money Mc.
"She wants to be an artist like a Rihanna or a Lady Gaga that translates all over the world," Kid told MTV News about Minaj's aspirations.
"She's dope. She's super creative," he continued. "She knows what she likes to hear. I'll put a idea down [and] she'll be like, 'I like that idea. I don't like that idea.' We'll just go back and forth. You get in the studio with some artists and they don't know what they want until they hear it. She understands production.

It will be director Louis Leterrier's follow-up to the 2008 Marvel Comics flick "The Incredible Hulk" and only his fourth feature as a director ("Transporter 2" and the Jet Li-starring "Unleashed" being the other two). Leterrier has honed his craft quite a bit through the years, and all signs suggest that "Clash" will be his biggest and best effort yet.
