Confused, terrified and still feeling very much alive, Anna doesn’t believe she’s dead, despite Deacon’s reassurances that she is merely in transition to the afterlife. Chicago – Loyal readers will know that I am often forgiving of bad horror films merely due to my love for the genre but there’s nothing that can save “After.Life” from the company of the worst movies of 2010. The copious nudity from Christina Ricci and the admittedly interesting premise may draw those who haven’t seen it to this monumentally stupid film but prepare to lose a few brain cells in the process.

A common criticism of horror films is that too many writers have been inspired by great anthology shows like “The Twilight Zone” or “The Outer Limits” and they fail to realize that while their idea may be interesting enough to have made a great half-hour episode of television, it falls apart when stretched to the running time of a feature film. If you’re ever trying to make this point in the future, “After.Life” would...

The release of Anchor Bay's After.Life is only a few weeks away and to build excitement for the debut, Anchor Bay has delivered another clip for the film. The clip below is entitled "Anna's Scary Dream" and the brief video shows haunting images, ghost-like movements, and one woman partly in the land of the living and partly in the land of the dead. Check out the clip below courtesy of Horror Society.
The synopsis for After.Life:
"In After.Life, Anna’s (Christina Ricci) quest for love and happiness takes a macabre turn when, after a car accident, she wakes up to find the local funeral director Eliot Deacon (Liam Neeson) preparing her body. Chicago – “After.Life” is one of the first truly awful films of 2010. Its aggressive solemnity combined with its head-slapping silliness will cause most viewers to simply laugh it off the screen. There’s at least two possible ways to interpret its murky story, and they’re both ludicrous. The only mystery guaranteed to linger in moviegoers’ minds is the inexplicable motivation of Christina Ricci and Liam Neeson to take part in this direct-to-video dreck.
First-time feature director Agnieszka Wojtowicz-Vosloo tries far too hard to get a reaction out of her audience. There are countless instances where loud clangs are heard on the soundtrack, followed by characters asking Ricci (and presumably the viewer), “Are you scared?” Frankly, there were more scares in “Casper.” The filmmakers spend so much time making noise that they forget to build suspense. Paul Haslinger’s irritating score has perhaps the greatest overuse of suspended cymbal rolls in film history,...

It’s a very rare occurrence that this writer has the opportunity to speak with female directors in the horror genre, which is why I was very happy to interview Agnieszka Wojtowicz-Vosloo about her upcoming supernatural thriller After.Life, which hits theaters in limited release this Friday courtesy of Anchor Bay.
Wojtowicz-Vosloo’s own personal journey to get After.Life made is compelling enough to be its very own movie. The young director came to the United States from Warsaw to study film at Nyu, and during her freshman year at the University she made her presence as an up-and-coming storyteller felt immediately. Pate, a short film she did for Nyu, was selected to debut during the 2001 Sundance Film Festival. Wojtowicz-Vosloo spoke about how Pate’s involvement in the prestigious festival changed her life forever.
“Usually at Sundance the short films get overlooked,” said Wojtowicz-Vosloo. “That’s why it was so surprising...

After.Life is one of those creepy films that sets up a certain reality and then simply builds on it, accruing suspense and chills as it goes. Alternatively, you could look at this feature debut by director Agnieszka Wojtowicz-Vosloo as contrived horror: an easily unraveled premise which, in retrospect, doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I guess it depends on what you're in the mood for. Inevitably, however, the latter overtakes the former because the script by Wojtowicz-Vosloo and Paul Vosloo can't help painting itself into a corner. If you can swing with the vision being built by Wojtowicz-Vosloo (typing that name actually makes me appreciate the pretentious moniker McG), then After.Life is a modest and effective little tale, one that is unafraid to take its time and wring the maximum flavor out of each carefully crafted moment. The film stars Christina Ricci...

Anchor Bay Entertainment is gearing up for the April 9 limited release of Agnieszka Wojtowicz-Vosloo's After.Life, the psychological thriller that chronicles a young woman (Christina Ricci) in a transitional state between life and death who fights to avoid being buried alive and the funeral director (Liam Neeson) who holds her fate in his hands. While last week you caught a glimpse at the trailer, they've now released the first official clip that really does capture the tone of the film. Alfred Molina, Justin Long, Josh Charles, Chandler Canterbury also star in the film penned by both Agnieszka Wojtowicz-Vosloo and Paul Vosloo.

After.Life is moving towards a confirmed April 9th release date and now the first trailer is available for critique. In the trailer the central characters Eliot Deacon (Liam Neeson), Anna Taylor (Christina Ricci), and Paul (Justin Long) are shown relating to one character's possible demise. But is she really dead, or part of a devious plan? This is the core plotline that is explored in After.Life and the answer will not be released until the end, guaranteed. Leave your own comments and expectations about the film below.

Liam Neeson has been pretty busy lately. Between “summoning the Kraken” as Zeus in Clash of the Titans, getting back his daughter in Taken, putting together plans in The A-Team, and hanging with Amanda Seyfried in Chloe, he’s having quite the life. However, it seems he’s still got some more juice in him as he’s playing the (potential?) bad guy in the upcoming film After.Life.
From unknown writer/director Agnieszka Wojtowics-Vosloo (who’s name will allow you to win every game of Scrabble. Ever) and Paul Vosloo, the premise is simple. Christina Ricci dies, and is caught between life and death. Only Liam Neeson, a funeral director who can see dead people, can carry her over. Only, she doesn’t exactly want to go.
Confused? The trailer doesn’t help you that much, unfortunately. The premise is enticing, yet could potentially be very contrived. All we’ll...

Wouldn't it be weird if you woke up in a funeral parlor, watching on as the mortician prepares your corpse for burial? What would be stranger still is if that mortician then turned and spoke to you, offering to aid in your transition to the afterlife.
That's the basic setup for "After.Life," an upcoming horror/thriller from director Agnieszka Wojtowicz-Vosloo, who also co-wrote the script with Paul Vosloo. Christina Ricci stars as the recently deceased, Liam Neeson plays the mortician and Justin Long is the boyfriend who thinks that something fishy is going on. He's probably right too.

After.Life was shown at the American Film Market in 2009 and while showing at several other film festivals, After.Life will be released to a wider audience April 9th. Do the dead live, or are the living dead? What does it mean to be dead anyway? Great questions, but I’m not sure if Agnieszka Wojtowicz really manages to answer them.
